New federal guidelines ask all females capable of conceiving a baby to treat themselves -- and to be treated by the health care system -- as pre-pregnant, regardless of whether they plan to get pregnant anytime soon.

Among other things, this means all women between first menstrual period and menopause should take folic acid supplements, refrain from smoking, maintain a healthy weight and keep chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes under control.

...:dozey:

Too bad, thats all women are good for.....

I hate people like that. sounds like half the guys i know, only see women for sex and not as equal as them. it pisses me off.

It is sad that in this day and age, women are still seen as primarily 'the childbearers'.

We do other things too.

Shop??:P

Wow that's ridiculous. Why not just promote healthy behaviors for everyone? Last time I checked, smoking, alcohol and uhh, "contact with cat feces" are generally not a good thing for anyone......men or women.

Preconception health? Pah. We're not baby making machines!! Geesh.

I think guys should get their cocks rammed into door frames once a week just to make their brains work.

That's what I think.

And preferably the men who wrote that article.

Unforch, I think a woman wrote that article (January is a womans name, no?)...

Well that's depressingly ironic.

I'm suprised I haven't heard anything about the feminists jumping all over this one...

If I jumped all over everything I read that tickled my tits, I'd be dead.

It's just sad, that's all. Alright, alright, I'll wash my vagina. But not because I'm squeezing kids out of there. Sorry, guys.

The U.S. infant mortality rate is higher than those of most other industrialized nations -- it's three times that of Japan and 2.5 times those of Norway, Finland and Iceland, according to a report released last week by Save the Children, an advocacy group.

Perhaps that has more to do with privatized health care than banning women from having cats.

Most women in the states that I know who had problems had to go to a midwife because they didn't have insurance and couldn't afford to have the baby in a hospital.

If my niece had been born in the US, she sure wouldn't be alive. No way could her parents have afforded it. We nearly lost her up here with everything available that she needed.

I can kind of see where they're coming from but its a little extreme.

They'll be going the same way as someone in the UK who was suggesting putting folic acid into bread so that everyone would be taking it.

Yes' date=' also putting up with silly comments like that.[/quote']

In that case, add "being irritable" to the list, too!!:P
