How do you study?

i had this really busy two weeks and i still got one test before this exam phase finishes but i've been thinking that my study method is not that good....i really need to write things down because if i only read i get quickly distracted. The problem is that writing everything takes a lot of time and when you have lots of different exams all minutes count as you should know...

so my question is: what is your study method? what do you do the day before you have an important exam?

yeah i know this forum is to have fun and not talk about studying but i thought i could get good advises here :)

Well, sometimes I prepare some outlines taking off some point of the subject that are not important..But it really takes lots of precious time...But I use to study 3 days before the test and the day before I only review what I studied... :)

ola livia! :)

yeah i like to take the day before to review everything i wrote too....and i usually study in the weekend before...three days before the test must be my average too...

i remembered something: some people i know just read and underline things while reading....but the thing is: in some subjects if you want to underline all that is important you have to underline everything!

Ei, Lili! :nice:

Yes, you're write about the underline thing...Like biology...I just cannot make any outline of it because it would be a waste of time...Maths and physics I do lots of exercices and stuff like that, that's the only way I can stydy for it...

Wow, I think I cannot study a week before...I'd forget everything I have studied later thought...

I think that if you study what you've seen in that day later it's easier for you to understand the whole subject...I do that and it really helps me...Then later you'd just review what you have already seen but in a deeper way... ;)

Lili, hun, I hope you've been succesful in all of your exams.

Don't get stressed because of this, think it's only a period that has a certain LAST.

My study method? I have a timetable of the entire day, and I study from 8 hours up to 12 hours per subject a week, depending on its difficulty (I don't count the lessons hours, they're "apart" ). It's the only way I pass the subjects, and I'm not only one who has this problem, all of my unis mates have the same. We spend most of our "free" time studying and this doesn't mean we'll pass the subject, but this will make it easier. If we wouldn't do such thing, our course would be everlasting, unless you're someone infinitely clever, but this is not the case of most of ppl.

The day before the exam I kept on studying and revising everything I've learnt. Even the night before the exam I dream about the subject, about equations and these stuff.... anyway, that usually happens to me when I'm afraid I'll fail the subject and also 'cos of the nerves 'cos in my uni we only have one chance in most of our subject, we have to pass a final exam, otherwise we fail the subject.

If I ever study, this is how it goes down... don't get advice from me though--I'm just in my second year of high school, haha.

For textbooks, I read whatever questions are at the end of the chapter or section first, then I glance at all the section and paragraph headings, look for bolded stuff, and then I read/speed read it, depending on how much crap I have to do. And if I'm feeling really... scholarly, I'll write/type key things down or make an outline of the reading... RARELY do I ever study, haha.

I'm a really bad student, but right now I'm getting straight A's except for literature which is a flat out B. Usually just doing the homework in the class is enough for me ... and then the questions on the test just seem to be common sense...

I'm not very good at heavy duty studying... I never needed to in highschool, and English exams are usually in essay format.

But, when I have a subject that I do need to study for, usually what I will do is go over my notes and the text, and create a study sheet for the points that I'm having trouble remembering. I usually keep it condensed down to one or two pages, and when I come across something important during my reading, I jot down a little note of it on the sheet. The idea is to focus on the essence of what I need to know rather than getting freaked out by all of the little details.

Then, when I'm doing last minute studying later, I can glance over the sheet knowing that I already know the broader stuff.

Here's my method:

-Pic a place away from all distractions. Music helps, however, at a moderate volume. It cannot be distracting.

-Take it one step at a time. Digest every topic or chapter, one by one.

-The action of studying is to learn, not to recite the topic word by word. Therefore, make sure you understand the topic throughly.

-Make a summary. The action of writing it down helps memorization.

-Have a good night sleep the night before. Sleep helps short term memory be converted into long term. Cramming until 5am, is effortless.

-Coffee is essential.

that's a lot of study iris!! and your degree seems really difficult!

yeah i dream about the subject too, my brain can't stop repeating things! and i know some unis which have that method too, mine has small tests and you only do exams if you have a negative grade or want to improve it...

yeah I try to do that- it works!

I don't really study all that much but I think I should start since college is getting closer :stunned: . What I usually do if I study at all is read the textbook and review the notes we took in class. My French teacher makes us do make flashcards- I thought it was a dumb idea but it works. And this may sound dumb but paying attention in class helps also :stunned: :P You won't have to study as much. I found that out the hard way, many times...

yeah, indeed it is (it's not a joke! ppl who are studying the same than me, don't do that for spending time, definitely).

anyway, it's a bit macabre the fact of dreaming about the subject the night before the exam.
