Violence

Featured Replies

I know I never post any threads around here, but today something happened that made me want to.

This guy, a friend of mine, not a close friend, I studied with him 2 years in school, but still the kind of person that sends you Happy birthday messages and that you stop to say hello when you see socially. He was playing tennis with his brother last night, and they left their wallets and mobiles on a bench on the side of the court, and some marginals came and took it. So they went after the guys and one of them shot my friend on his forehead.

Yes, he passed away at 02:30am this morning.

It just made me think, how fragile are our lives?? Can you imagine the pain of a mother that finds out that her 21 year old son has died? And this boy's brother, family, girlfriend, his friends.

This makes me think that we are living in a world where the only 'safe' place to be is locked inside your house, where bad things can't happen to you. That everytime you step out on the streets you have to be afraid of being robbed, rapped, killed.

People don't even have to have a good reason to kill now. They just do. They take a gun, shoot you on the head because they wanted a freaking mobile... it's just wrong.

I don't know if everywhere is like Brazil. But here that's the reality we are living in. It's a reality of fear and violence everywhere you look.

He didnt live in a ghetto, where violence is more frquent. He wasn't a rich spoiled kid that messed up with the wrong crowd. He was a regular guy, who was playing tennis with his brother at 7:30pm on a sunday night. The guys didn't go after him, they were after anyone...

And I'm not writing here to get the condolences, since i wasnt really close to him. I just wanted to know what do you guys think of this stupid violence that makes us lived scared inside our houses. (maybe some of you won't relate to this, specially the people in developed European countries...)

I'm sorry if there's another similar topic... I'm just really in shock with this situation.

gosh... that was hard to read... sorry Mari...

I don't think in Switzerland the situation is that bad... but just last week, front page of every paper was this 13 year old girl raped by 13!!!! guys between 15 and 18 years old...

if you think well, not even at home your safe!!! it's of course the negative side of our society, but I believe that while one sad thing happens a buch of good stuff happen somewhere else... but luck can't be everywhere!!!

Oh that's sad.......really.....I was shocked when you wrote thet he passed away....I'm sorry for that....

and about the topic.....I think here in Germany it is not like that.....ok maybe I can't even talk about it because I live in a small village....and I guess something like this would happen here once in 1000000 years.....

I think one important thing is that you are not allowed to have guns so easily....like in America for example.....I'm glad about that....

I guess the violence in the cities increases.......because there seems to be so much hatred sometimes....especially between young people......there is omething wong in their way they are brought up....

and you are right that it is even dangerous whn we go out of our house....but yeah his is life.......I think actually we should appreciate every day we survived.....oh my but his sounds tough.....makes the thing even worse....

^ Like the recent gunshot in the German school? That is crazy, this country is badly known for being dangerous, but things like that have never happened here, fortunately.

About what you said Mariana, yes I know what you mean, sometimes I'm afraid life could just go away instantly... sadly this kind of things are quite common in South American cities... people are murdered, but nobody knows them, until it happens to you or someone close. Sorry for what happened to your friend.

they shouldn't really leave thier stuff lying around....

Yeah.....things like that aren't rare anymore.....it's sad, because actually Germany is a pretty safe country compared to others...

oh man.

that's tough.

well, i've heard that it's extremely dangerous in brazil. seriously, but yeah, every country has its dangers. like in germany here, there was a dude coming to his old school and shooting around him today. it's just this world we are living inm. now of course they're blaming all those counter strike games again. but i don't think that stupid games or movies make us do such things.

i'm sorry for your friend. eventhough you weren't that close, but... i feel sorry for his family.

what about his brother? is he ok?

you can find violence everywhere. i've found out that i'm living in the most dangerous oart of frankfurt, which does not mean that i'm living in the ghetto. it' just that most crimes are commited here (whether it's stealing a freaking bike or robbing a bank).

my sister works in that grocery store a few streets away. they've been robbed so many times now. thank god nothing ever happened and my sister has never been working then, but one of here friends there got electricuted with those little shockers. however. he's alive, but he had a little trauma going on for months.

they shouldn't really leave thier stuff lying around....

you just didn't fucking say that, did you?

you just didn't fucking say that, did you?

I didn't mean it in a bad way,lol

Shit......I've just heard the news that a guy in Northrhine- Westfalia did a gunshoot at a school....now I know what you are talking about...:(

I also think violence always existed, but as the world changes so does it... and information travels faster too...

Yes, I knew first... and when I said this country is badly known for being dangerous I meant mine, but from what I known insane boys shoting others at a school, it has never happened here... or cannibals eating people...

What I mean is, in the rural areas here, people die in a never ending violence, some parts of the cities are very insecure at nights but the thing is, people here is might be happier and there's something in advanced countries societies that really affects some people, pushing them to do such things as gunshoting a school with many people or collective suicide as in Japan... I dunno.

yes... coz that justifies the guy shooting him on the head. (or just shooting him, for that matter.)

great contribution to the thread reg.

Charles, as I thought, you would be the one that would comprehend better what I'm saying, since you also live in south america.

The situation here is not of 'normal' violence. People are violent for the silliest reasons (e.g: a mobile).

A good example of how much the violence makes people stay in is that we have a beautiful seafront sidewalk for people to run, jog or just walk around and apreciate the view... well, needless to say that after 10 it's very rare to see anyone walking around there, actually, to see anyone walking on the streets at all. people are too scared of being robbed. And the problem with being robbed here today is that not only the guy can take your mobile, wallet or whatever you have on you, but if he isn't in a good mood or whatever, he might just shoot you and go away without anyone ever catching him...

That's all about the fucking world we live in today. I mean it, people become more and more mad with each hour. Kill for a mobile. It's just impossible to understand. Mobile, what the fuck?..

I can't really say that in my city you're always in a big danger when you're outside your room (because you can die even in your apartment, old russian houses have many many 'surprises'), but sometimes crazy things happen here too. A few days ago a group of skinheads killed one guy, he was in the same uni that my sister is. And they killed him in about 500 meteres from my house. It was in news, in newspapers and all, but does it really change anything? Now we have a memorial of that guy on the place he was killed. Candles, flowers and all that stuff. And I see it every time I come back home from school. I will see those damn candles for the rest of my life, two times a day. How sad is it? I just start thinking of those skinheads every time I pass by that wall and that depresses me so much.

And yeaterday there was another murder. Some drunk idiot was driving his car and ran into the group of seven teenagers who were trying to make a picture of some statue. They were just standing there, in front of iron Pushkin and this drunk guy run into them. Three of them died instantly and the rest are in hospital. And you know what did that guy get? A broken wrist. He killed three people, put four in hospital and all he got is a broken wrist... I'm just.... How can you even sit in your car if you know you're drunk? Fucking people.

wow mariana, that's terrible.

i lived in papua new guinea (aka png) all my life until 2 years ago when i moved here, australia, and the difference is liberating. in png, the crime rate is ridiculous, uncontrollable. assult, rape, murder - the whole lot happens on a daily basis like it's normal there, but in no way did i think i had to stay locked up in my house. that would be the real crime with me as the victim.

some of my closest friends have lost friends/family to the most stupidest reasons, some for no reason at all. the best thing is to be cautious but the last thing you should do is hide away.

i think when something like this happens, your initial reaction is to secure your safety to ensure something similar doesn't happen to you, but if you do that, nothing ever will happen, the bad as well as the good. you just got to take whatever comes your way, the good with the bad otherwise life becomes...boring. you end up robbing yourself.

@tilolas, i would fuckin bury those guys alive, or cut their throats off, fuckin nuts.

@marianatsl, sorry to hear that, that's a very sad story, specially when he was pretty much in the best year's of his live, 20'ties. I always wonder why does it allways have to be innocent people who get shot by these nuts.

where im from, it's a small country with a medium/high crime rate (comparing to its size).

Well that is really a sad story..but unfortunately that is what the world is coming too these days..full off violence...things are the same here...these days you are not even safe in your house..people break in while you sleep etc!!!

that kind of thing is growing more and more with time here in Uruguay, you can see the change in the streets..where it was "safe" to walk around 5 years ago now it's getting more and more complicated, it's sad but it's a huge reality in probably every latin american country in the past years

a few get rich and rich and rich, and millions become poor, and even poorer

Believe me when I say that sometimes you are not even safe in your own home............. :/ and I think it's the same anywhere.. you can run all you want but there's no safety anywhere...

AND we're the ones behind bars in our own homes while the criminals are free outside

^^Yup sooner or later you are gonna get mugged/robbed etc...

AND we're the ones behind bars in our own homes while the criminals are free outside

I'm afraid that's how it is...

ps: I don't think we have talked before:thinking:

The world is not a safe place and I guess that it would be more unsafe within the time if we do not do something.

It does not matter if is Europe or America or Asia, violence is everywhere.

I know that this is not the answer but if at least weapons and bullets were more expensive and we had a better weapons control things like this should not happen

hi, i'm Marcelo, nice to meet you :)
