B&Q has apologised to shoppers after a filthy Christmas jingle was played over a store sound system.

Instead of festive tracks customers heard a foul-mouthed song from the infamous adult cartoon series South Park.

The track, entitled Christmas Time in Hell, including references to sex and serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, blared out at the DIY giant's store in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Shopper Grant Sullivan, 42, from Stockport, was in the store's Christmas grotto with his daughter, Deonne, aged four.

"I couldn't believe my ears," he said. "We were buying a tree and Deonne was looking for the star for the top of it. I was speechless."

The track is one of 18 on the CD starring South Park's Mr Hankey. Other songs on the CD include: Mr Hankey The Christmas Poo, Dead Dead Dead, and Swiss Colony Beef Log.

Mr Sullivan left the store last week and rang B&Q's head office to complain when he got home.

He told The Sun: "Christmas should be a wonderful time for kids - they shouldn't have to listen to filth."

B&Q apologised to him over the incident. A spokesman said: "We didn't wish to cause offence. "On behalf of B&Q I would like to apologise to Mr Sullivan for any embarrassment caused during his recent visit to our Stockport store with his young daughter.

"The playing of South Park's Christmas in Hell was an oversight on our part and we did not wish to cause offence or embarrassment to any of our customers.

"The song was removed as soon as the oversight was pointed out to us and please be assured that we will not be playing this song in this or any of our other stores going forward."

blimey!! what retailer doesn't check its music before playing the cd? we always used to have to check the lyrics for swear words, and exclude any tracks that swore before we ciould put anything on in my previous job.
