job problem- i really need your advice.

Featured Replies

i'm currently working but i really dislike my job, i find it dead boring and i'm only doing it for the money. its a call centre job and its only a temporal. i thought i'd work there for about a month or two.

however i met a friend in town today who worked at the same workplace. he got sacked because he didnt sell enough. that happened about four months ago and he still hasnt got his wage. he wrote them and asked for the money but he didnt get a response, therefore he went to court.

he went to see my boss and told him that he filed an action but my boss said that he wasnt gonna pay him until the end of the month. he didnt seem to give a damn.

my boss saw me talking to my friend today and he asked me from where i knew him. i told him that he was a friend, its none of his business anyway. however my boss asked me what my friend told me about them and all i said that he said that he hadnt got paid and that he desperately needed the money. which is true but obviously not all he said. my boss told me that i dont have to worry, that i will get paid at the end of the month. my other boss responded that you couldnt expect to get paid when you dont actually work. my friend did work obviously, he just wasnt very successful at his job.

i'm a bit undecided. i'm afraid i might not get my wage either. i consider quitting the job but then again i think it might be better to wait until i got my wage because i really need the money. but i obviously dont wanna waste my time working there without getting paid either.

what would you do?

that's quite difficult to respond!

Anyway, i think you'll be paid, 'cos your boss told you that (although I haven't had too many jobs - only a couple - so I don't have too many experience about this "world"). What's more, you're successful in your job, aren't you? So, regarding this, I wouldn't be worried about the money, you have a contract, so you wouldn't have any problem with them.

Don't you think if you quit now, you couldn't get your wage but if you work there at least 1month, then they'll have to pay you for the month you've worked?

so... regarding your question, I wouldn't quit the job now, but I'd be looking for another more interesting or even more well-paid, and in the moment i'd be sure, i'd take a decision and quit the job.

thanks for your reply!

well according to my contract i could quit my job anytime. they will have to pay!

my friend did have the same contract and they are obligated to pay him.

i'm pretty successful at my job but i'm not motivated enough. i dont like lying to people so i just dont. i also dont really try hard enough because i always try to be friendly. i really feel bad about selling old people or someone who is suffering from a serious disease something which wont help them at all, so i just dont. they dont like that.

then you shouldn't have any problem if you quite your job tomorrow or any other day. ;)

i see the reasons why you don't like your job. It's not fair to lie to old people and getting advantage of this fact. I think you do what it's correct.

nah it shouldnt be a problem.

i'm just worried i might not get my wage. i really dont trust them you know.

and yeah, i am looking for another job at the moment but it will take some time and i probably wont find anything until next year.

Next year isn't as far as you think. In a few days will be 2007.

it's normal you don't trust them after seeing what happened to your friend, but this doesn't mean the same will happen to you. anyway, it's difficult to respond to your question, you know? it's one of those cases which i can't see a clear option to take.

can also see why you do not like the job... yes it is a difficult situation, but agree to Oenona. After you got paid, look for a new one...

didn't you want to go to university maybe?

that would be my advice. college is fun i think. further more you probably have better job oppourtunities later.

wish you the best

are you at uni?

thanks! yeah that's probably the right thing to do. i'm glad its christmas soon, so i'll have a few days off, the same goes for new year obviously.

i'll probably go to the swiss monutains on new year's eve but i cant go skiing because my boyfriend's coming to switzerland, which is amazing. but he obviously cant ski. he's never been to mainland europe before.

but i'm so looking forward to that.

no. i will in nearly 2 years

no. i will in nearly 2 years

cool! i always wanted to go to uni when i was at grammar school but i'm a bit undecided at the moment. i've had a lot of experiences after leaving school which changed my view on that a bit. but still i see that it is very important to go to uni or college. i couldnt say i'm looking forward to it though.:embarassed:

i asked for holidays today and my boss didnt want to give me some time off. i cant change the date because that's when my boyfriend's coming to switzerland.

whaaat? :stunned:

what'll you do then?

  • Author

i have two possibilities, i can either pretend to be ill or quit the job. great, innit?

yeah, i see! :anxious:

anyway, you were asking yourself the fact of quit the job a few days ago!

  • Author

i know. i'm still thinking about it, his reaction doesnt make this decision any harder, does it?

i think you're right!

and i know you don't like to lie, thing which you usually have to do in this job, but hey, it's your decision. Probably it's better to say you're ill! I dont know.

  • Author

dunno, as i said its a thing i really hate to do. plus i'm pretty likely to get sacked if he remebers that i asked for holidays at exactly the same date.

i think i'll quit the job.

it's probably the best you can do... due to what's happened.
