Cliques

Featured Replies

Long story short-

I write for the teen section of the V.a. Pilot (our newspaper) and my editor's doing a story on social cliques in school and just interviewed me.

But I want to know what YOU guys think..

So....

What kind of cliques are at your school (or where ever)? What kind? Are there the stereotypical Jocks, Preps, Weirdos? What clique do you hang with (if you do)?

Do you like who you hang with?

There are popular cliques and etc. in my school but there all divided- i.e. the nice preps, the means ones, the exclusives.

I try not to call my group a clique but we kind of are. We're not excluding or anything. We don't fit anywhere else- we're misfits. I don't mind- I love my friends- I just hate getting funny looks from other cliques...

Great thread Jenika.

Well in my school there are a lot of cliques, like the smelly reject kids, the jocks/preps/snobbish rich people (not that there's many poor kids in my school....), the strange girls who really need to grow up, the boys who are obsessed with sports, the nerds.....

I don't have a group. I have my two best friends in school and then I'm friends with everybody else. I'm actually quite popular... everybody seems to like me :nice:

Most of the people who post in this thread will probably be "in between" people because jocks/preps wouldn't really come here, but neither would the nerds...

Hey- we have a bunch in common!

I don't have many poor kids in my school either. There's a lot of immature boys in my school.

I'm not popular though- but everyone likes me because I'm nice. When my friends say, "Oh she's such a bitch." I go, "She's nice to me..."

I love my group of friends. We're all so different, it's interesting. Like with popular kids, you think they get bored hanging out with someone exactly like you???

I have loads of immature boys in my school too!!

And yeah, I often think about how those popular kids hang out with each other every single day, I mean don't they get tired of the same routines? And what I noticed about the popular kids in my school is that they are not really that amazing!! They are not the prettiest people, they're most certainly not the smartest, definetely not the nicest, what it is is that they just THINK they are better than everybody else!! And OTHER people have basically designated them as the "Popular" people because it just seems like there needs to be that kind of group.

But if you're popular doesn't that mean everybody has to LIKE you?

OMG you read my mind.

We had to vote on homecoming king and queen. My friends tried to get, I guess you could say "one of us", on the ballad but it didn't work. And the same people are going to win again this year.

It's weird, most of the popular kids in my school make really good grades (I will not comment on if they do it on their own...) And they're, like, PERFECT. Quite intimidating.

Ha ha, the popular kids in my school are pretty dumb. And not very good at sports either (well the girls.)

People always try to sit next to me during tests.... >.<

  • Author

No I heard this boy talking about this other boy, they're both in my french class and well, he was saying how the other cheated on most of his tests...

Guess who he use to sit by...

That reminds me! Got a 99 on my french test! :D (Been dying to tell someone...)

The pop. girls in my school are so skinny and they whine about everything. And they're not dumb, they just lack common sense. And they're conversations are dull and guys totally fall for that! :dozey:

(Not bitter.....lol)

Good job on your french test! I'm proud of you:D

Well the whole skininess factor.... that kind of comes with being in that group I guess. The whining... ugh.

  • Author

Thanks! A 99! I was so happy. I <3 French...

Yeah, the whining is annoying, but what's more annoying is all the puppy eyed guys...They're pretty but damn, they lack substance! Because of them I won't have a date to homecoming! And I admit it! I'm a little bitter.

^You have the right to be bitter as you have perfectly good reasons. And again, everybody thinks those popular people are so great but they're NOT!!

At my school, there's the evil popular prep people, the nice perfect people, the stoners, obnoxious assholes and flunk school, then there's the group I'm in, the weirdo/punk/goth/emo/doesn't-fit-anywhere-else people. I love them. They don't judge me and they care so much for me. They actually care for me, unlike other people.

Yeah in my group there's

3 weirdos

1 prep

3 boy crazies

3 "normal"

1 Coldplay obsessed psycho. :P

and a cheerleader.

It's great! I love it.

I wonder who's the Coldplay obsessed psycho..... :laugh3:

Wow, I never thought American schools are so, well...cliqued. They sound just like they do on the movies. Over here, well at least with any school I've ever been to, we don't really have many stereotypes.

For males: Every guy likes some kind of sports whether it be football or trampolining. Theres no official nerdy group or really popular group. They all hang out together in one massive group playing cricket or football or whatever.

For females: We all get along usually except for the occasional fight. We have our own little groups but they arent classified because we always mingle with each other anyway. The really pretty girls know they are but arent really bitchy about it. As for the emos/weirdos...they isolate themselves a bit so I don't really know.

I can't speak for all of the schools in Aus but thats just what its like at my school and I quite enjoy it. :)

Yeah, she's crazy!

I heard she kisses her Coldplay poster...:stunned:

:P

^^:laugh4:

in school there used to be those groups but as time went by we started to speak more with each other and now everyone speaks to everyone....of course i'm describing this as perfect and it's not like always like that: there are still stupid boys and girls who see themselves as much better than everyone else....but who cares? i gave up on those long time ago....

this is about people i know from school...

at uni: i don't feel there's this division at all.....of course you have a group of people who is near you most of the times but in general everyone speaks with everyone with no problem!

i know people who were in my class for 12 years and we spoke like two times to ask for a pencil or something! :stunned:

edit: and yeah....never thought american schools were exactly like teen american movies....always thought that was exagerate but i'm seeing it's not!
