A bullying investigation has been launched after a lifeguard was mocked for looking like Borat.

Martin McAndrews claims he has suffered verbal abuse at the sports centre where he works.

The abuse started after the release of Sacha Baron Cohen's spoof documentary about bumbling Kazakhstani newsman Borat Sagdiyev.

Youths began yelling the character's catchphrases and directed foul-mouthed rants towards Mr McAndrews because his moustache and yellow outfits made him a dead ringer for the comedian.

The bullying began with teenagers visiting the sports centre in Sittingbourne, Kent, but then colleagues joined in and posted mocking comments on the Internet.

The secretly-filmed clips, showing Mr McAndrews at his workplace and with his finger up his nose, have been viewed 1,500 times on YouTube.

A work colleague left a message boasting: "I work with him and I pushed him into the lockers the other day, ha ha!"

A friend of Mr McAndrews said: "He is sick of the catchphrases.

"The worst ones are Sexy Time, Jagshemash and It Is Nice. These kids think they are hilarious but it has started to really upset him.

"Martin's doing an important job looking after the safety of everyone at the swimming pool, so these louts are putting people's lives at risk."

The abuse shows no sign of stopping as Mr McAndrews' tormentors are even challenging each other to post more footage on the Internet.

Speaking at the home he shares with his mother Pat in Sittingbourne, the lifeguard said: "I just want to drop the whole Borat thing. I have had enough."

Circo, the firm which is contracted to run the sports centre by Swale council, has pledged to investigate the bullying.

Director of leisure Ian Phelps said: "This is totally unacceptable. We take this kind of thing very seriously."

Ew ew ew ew EEEEWWWW! Mullet!!!

Forget Borat, between the mustache, the mullet and the shirt he looks more like a lumberjack working at McDonalds.

You just don't wear a mullet and expect to not get bugged about it. They're just wrong.

Haha, the funny thing is that he looks nothing like him.

So he's got a mustache? ("That don't impress me much")
