Another common topic for Pendidikan Seni was "Berkelah Di Tepi Pantai"

I've never ate persimmon. :shame:

Is that your banner, Rudy? Me like! See, now we all know you DO have a chance of getting your art exhibited!

Anyhu, I have a bone to pick with SPM Seni questions! I was helping my brother with his Seni SPM just around two weeks ago, and I realised they NEVER EVER change the questions! The questions are usually very limited, too-- they don't actually allow you to fully express your creativity. They're very specific, too, and art should not be that way. The questions need to be more general, so that the kids can go completely out of the box and create something original.

Instead, we get questions like this:

1. Draw a 'tunggul kelapa' with orchids growing on it, set at the beach. Ok, we get the beach question. Again. I had that when I did my SPM 6 years ago... (EDIT: I forgot i didn't do art in SPM, it was my PMR 8 years ago! Even worse!)

This woman did a nice job (I think she's an art teacher), but seriously, can our students do that in the span of, what, 2-3 hours?

2. Draw a foggy forest scene with a campsite has been set up... I can't remember the question exactly, but I remember the details were very specific.

3. Draw a scene at the market, illustrating the crowded situation... Blah blah boring. It would actually be interesting if teachers didn't already make us do this every single year...

The rest of the questions were in the same vein...

It would've been much better if they said, okay, draw a beach scene. And then students can go bonkers and draw a beach scene with something totally unexpected in the piece, but instead we're forced to draw orchids at the beach.

It's fine, I suppose, to give specific questions to help those who have no idea what to do, but it would be amazing if they gave one question that asks students to go absolutely crazy and create whatever the hell they want, BUT the students must apply what they have learned (ie art techniques) in the syllabus.

rant over. Lol. It just really bothered me. :P

i detest art class. esp during my f2 and f3 days. gah. the teacher seems to be thinking that my whole class are artists.

my friend used to detest art class when i was f2, but f3 she took a liking for it. -.-

so not skipping art class for me. thank goodness pmr could push the seni priorities away.

Aw, why would you detest art class? The only reason why I didn't like it was because my teachers didn't really give it their all. They weren't creative at all, and the only chose to adhere to their same old formulas. Seriously, isn't art about creativity? And I had a mentally unstable woman teach us art in Form 2 and what she'd do was tell us to draw something, and then she'd walk around the class, lost in her own thoughts and her own world until the second period ended. Weird or what? It just made me believe the school didn't really care about art, and so they'd just throw in any random person to handle our art class.

I don't think they should treat art like that... For those students who do actually have great potential to be artists, our seni classes could turn them completely off and shackle them to an uncreative mind... Art is important. I am still waiting for Malaysia to come out with a good, quality animated movie / cartoon. I heard Upin & Ipin was a big leap forward, so that's good.

I do have natural talents in art, I always love art. If my SPM result wasn't good, I'd go with fine art. Or maybe interior architecture.

I nearly selected fine art courses during university applications (UPU thingy) but I was just afraid I'll regret if I leave science aside.

And SPM questions are indeed to specific, I still remember my sis' one was about "tanah gurun yang gersang dengan oasis yang kering-kontang dan tanah yang merekah, matahari terik menyinar panas membahang etc etc"

I was like what the fish? Is that an art question or kesusasteraan Melayu?
