I'm not sure if they teach german properly everywhere. I'm quite sure they dont.

Didn't know that. Yes, in that case she should and probably is teaching it the right way. Most teachers though are not native speakers. And very few of them can teach it the right way, espically when it comes to pronouncing words the right way.
