Today, MPEG-1 has become the most widely compatible lossy audio/video format in the world, and is used in a large number of products and technologies. Perhaps the best-known part of the MPEG-1 standard is the MP3 audio format it introduced.

 

Also, the files aren't too big. I found somewhere that a 1.5mb/s .mpg file is about 65.918 mb, and with the same quality as a VHS... without the static! (Even though, the cable here in town is crappy, so there will be a little static anyway.)

how about MPEG4? that's still MPEG, so it counts as what semy said!
