Tonsu
Does anyone have any advice or a considered point of view on someone who is heavily pregnant going along to a Coldplay gig? I've often seen such ladies at concerts, even festivals like Glastonbury, but until now it's not something I've had to consider as something that might affect me one day. Chavi
get a seat ticket near an exit door. Bring water, dont stand too much. I dont know, never thought of very heavily pregnant women who wanted to attend a gig actually..
Lauve
Not having had the joy myself I can only go by what other women say. Every woman is unique and so is every pregnancy, but after 7th month there might the risk of early delivery due to A. to much pushing an shoving B. to much excitment and emotion. I would find a way to sit somewhere near First help people. Most women I know keep very active till the end. You might have to go with the feeling you get deep inside you when the time (of the concert) comes. And trust that you are doing the right thing, whatever your choice. If you do go, dont spend your time doubting and regretting, cause that's what might trigger just the thing you dont want. Coldplay crowds are also full of very good people, so that should not be the problem. More caring people than drugaddicts or drunks there ! And the no smoking policy also an improvement for you. Hope it works out nicely for you (meaning her).:baby::heart:
Khalplay
I saw a (not HEAVILY but still) pregnant woman recently during a STANDING concert, security guys asked her to stay near the door and they were paying as much attention to her as they do with some disabled people. Guess she can ask for a security guy not far from her and everything should be ok, I mean I hope so :)
EnglishSilk
When my daughter and I went to see Coldplay, she was nearly 7 months along, and we found the people sitting all around us to be very mindful of her , even offering to leave the show to go get her a drink, or food, and watching there own excitement levels so as not to push or bump her. It was very kind and sweet! And consider it a ++PLUS++ if you have a chance to get close to Chris, or even meet him! Chris went GA-GA over my daughters belly and could`nt keep his hands off the baby inside!!! Actually, Will and Jonny showered her with attention over it as well, but both seemed to shy to be so hands on with her as Chris was, :). During the show, the baby( whom is now NOAH AIDEN! AGE 2) kicking wildly to the music:laugh3:, and he was even born to the song Yellow playing in the birthing room! He looooves Coldplay now, and knows the names of the guys, and plays his own little piano alongside videos of Chris playing! LOL...Noah`s fave song??...POLTIK! (he starts it singing "Ahhhh-wooooo" like Chris does when the song begins. SORRY...OFF TOPIC! All will be fine, Im sure, as one said above, just follow your instincts, and have a great time! Tonsu
Thanks a lot for the comments guys, it gives me even more to think about... I've seen plenty of heavily pregnant ladies down the years at various gigs - including one or two who looked like it could be twins, triplets or even more (!!) I've always thought 'that's cool' and been very careful not to dance near them etc, but now that somebody I'm going to the gig with may be pregnant, and will be due any day at the time of the gig, I'm really not sure... I don't know if it's a risk they should be taking. I don't know if it's a risk I should be partly responsible for. I know I won't personally enjoy the gig as I'll just be too worried throughout (even if she is happy and relaxed, unfortunately I won't be able to be so myself). Chavi the gig sold out immediately, the seats are allocated and being able to change seats on the day is far from guaranteed. Chris very good advice thanks, but the seats are right in the middle of a block, security won't be able to keep an eye on her (it'll be down to me :( and her fellow). Lauve thank you so much, you make some excellent points too (and very thoughtful :)) Unfortunately, though I know many people at a Coldplay gig will be among the very best sort of people around, as it's London, the O2, and Coldplay (who now attract every kind of person from society to their gigs here) I can't assume that everyone will be thoughtful and careful around her...and there are certain to be many drunk people and probably some people using drugs...:(
Chavi
edit : ^ try to trade your seats with someone else when inside the venue. Being in the middle of a block might not be the best idea. I wish you guys a good show. Hope everything will be fine and that you'll enjoy the concert as much as possible. Lauve
Dearest Kimchi, This question probably spoils the excitment about going to the gig, for now. You feel responsible and nervous. But it is really her responsibility and by then she might gets hints of what to do (or not to do). And you will have slept a few nights over it, and suddenly you'll know everything is ok, and what you have to do. No reason to be fustrated there. Really keep cool is the best decision, and nothing will go wrong, only good surprises. You dont want to spoil it for her, do you?;) If she decides to go, you'll be there, and have a super great experience. A double one at that : Coldplay in persons AND a rehearsal for when you finally become a dad (or an uncle). Growing up is sometimes hard.. and definitely worth it. She is not ill, just pregnant, how wonderful ! Maybe I should send this in a PM, well ok:kiss::kiss::kiss:
Tonsu
Thanks so much for your story, EnglsihSilk, and what an incredible memory it is!! I'm glad I posted this thread, if only so that many others can read such a truly sweet, delicious and delightful recollection :) It's great that people around your daughter were so considerate and kind, but at the same time (and thinking about our position rather than yours) isn't it rather selfish of this person I'm going with to insist on attending even though she will be due virtually the day of the gig? It's nice if people are kind, but isn't it a bit much to push (pardon the pun!) your own situation on others who've paid a lot of money for a gig that they most probably expect to be able to jump around, drink as much as they want, and be merry at? :\ And what about the people she's going with (me and a friend) - I'd really like to know if people think it's reasonable and normal to brush aside our huge concerns with just an 'it'll be ok'? (I know this is probably largely an intersection of different characters here: she's happy-go-lucky, and I think and worry about things deeply even months in advance. So who should give in to the other's feelings here I wonder?) edit : ^ try to trade your seats with someone else when inside the venue. Being in the middle of a block might not be the best idea. I wish you guys a good show. Hope everything will be fine and that you'll enjoy the concert as much as possible. Thanks again Chavi, but arranging something so late (inside the gig) isn't an option for me. While it's probably going to be possible to sort something out, I won't sleep for days myself worrying, and if it doesn't work out then just imagine... But, the thing is, I'm going to feel responsible and nervous from now until the gig - the girl who is pregnant is very much my responsibility in life. I have given her much (not that that matters to me), but she won't even consider my concerns on this - she's just determined to go. Of course I don't want to ruin her night, and would love her join us there, I'm just so worried. I think I've already decided what I might do when the time comes, but if anyone else has any further advice I'd love to hear it...
melanieau
My two cents: Have her talk with her OB/GYN about going to this concert - a simple phone call should get her an answer on whether this is a safe option for her.
Tonsu
My two cents: Have her talk with her OB/GYN about going to this concert - a simple phone call should get her an answer on whether this is a safe option for her. Thanks for that melanieau, but of course she's a sensible lass and naturally she'd make sure all her doctors and consultants were absolutely happy with her condition before she attended. If all goes well I expect them to say 'it's not out of the question but you have to consider the risks of being in that kind of environment' (which is what I'm doing, I think, and what she's not doing, perhaps - yet). Anyway, many thanks to all for your input, it's certainly given me more to think about :) Partly with your help I've come to realise that there's absolutely no point pushing the question for many months yet. I'll just gently let her know once or twice that I'm not looking forward to the responsibility of taking her along in such a precious and delicate condition, but make no decisions, keep hold of the tickets, and hope she gives birth early and is ready for a post-natal rock!! :drummer: Hehe, do newborns get in free to gigs, by any chance?? :D
