StephenG
Two seperate queries here. Keep in mind this is for acoustic guitar not bass. In the recorded version of The Scientist at 3.42 (after the second chorus) theres kinda an outro by a bass guitar that keeps going till the end of the song) What are the best chords to emulate this without a bass? (I use a capo on 3rd fret) Secondly, the second part of Yellow, the part with 8 chord changes and lots of heavy down strokes. Or 10seconds or so in. I know the chords Im supposed to use, but im after some that ring much louder, and sound far heavier. (as in the recorded version) (capo on second fret) What im trying to do here is play the basic riff for the whole of these songs, but add the secondary guitar parts despite the fact I don't have a bass. bearcat1229
Theres a couple ways to play yellow with two guitars. You can create a lead part (even on an accoustic) with hammer on's instead of bends. I've never played it with a capo but that will give you more of a treble sound, so take of the capo and the chord progression goes something like this: 797800 - B 797900 - Badd11 244320 - F# 020100 - Edim something? OBviously if you keep your strumming to the top 3-4 strings it will sounds deeper/harder. For the Scientist without a capo I play it with mostly bar chords" 002210 Am 688766 A# 13321/ F 033010 C/F (or something) Same concept with this progression obviously with 3-4 bass note strumming. Don't know if that helps at all but thought I'D give it a try.

The outro of the scientist is played on guitar not bass, so you don't need to transpose a thing and it's capo 1 tuned EADEAE. hold the eleventh fret of the A string and play it with the open E string, bending every third strum like the song. Then play chords x0(11)000 sliding to x09000 after the bends come again play x(11)(11)9(11)x and then the above chords again. That's basically the outro. and yellow doesn't have a capo, it's tuned EABGbd# for the rythm at least. I'm not sure what your exact question is... fakfak
"What are the best chords to emulate this without a bass?" Well, if you want to go the external effects root, there are several pedals that can give you a Bass-ish tone. You can get pretty close with a Digitech Whammy if you play with the settings a bit. (I think this is how Jack White makes the Bass sounds in some White Stripes songs, but I'm not sure).
Malcolm-Edge
When I play The Scientist I capo off at the third and strum 1 full on the beat and on the of fbeat only the top 3 strings. Its a cool sound i find.
Mig-El
you can also play the scientist with capo on 5th fret, I like a lot how it sounds, you just play the chords Dm7, Bb, F, Fsus2, C as Am7, F, C, Csus2(remove your middle finger from the C for this) and G respectively
