October 3, 200817 yr thats a very awesome list of albums you have there but the last three dont quite match the criteria most would attribute to an "influential and impacting" album. i honestly cant think of any bands which have been directly influenced by BHAR or the fratellis album. maybe in 10yrs time these albums might have an impact but they still fall under the category of being inspired by older records more than influencing future ones. nonetheless a great list!!! thanks to everyone who has contributed. well I think as far as defining the music of the time, those last three albums do the trick. Especially Muse, lots of bands nowadays aspire to live up to their stature. They're larger than life right now, and that's why I picked them. I'm thinking maybe instead of Costello Music I could've put AROBTTH by Coldplay.
October 4, 200817 yr Author Tool - Aenima the epitomy of prog rock. maynard's voice is mind blowing as is Danny Carey's drumming. bands like Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater have been heavily influenced by these guys
October 6, 200817 yr I think Schism is their best album, and is indeed a groundbreaking album. Though Tool certainly is NOT the epitomy of prog rock. Just listen to early Genesis (especially "A Trick of the Tail" album)
