Police in Cincinatti have charged an 89-year-old woman with petty theft after she refused to return a football to neighbourhood children.

 

Edna Jester was arrested on Thursday for keeping the ball, which had been thrown into her yard - something which had become an issue in the area.

 

After the father of one of the children reported her, officers arrived at the scene and asked her to return the ball. When she refused, she was charged with petty theft.

 

Jester has since been released from custody and has said she eventually intends hand the ball back.

 

"[Keeping the ball] is my only way of getting through to these children ... I'll give it back to them later, but not right now," she told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
