Coldplay Join Coldplay this Christmas for a one hour special looking back at their career to date

You'll probably already know that Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin, is married to the popular actress Gwyneth Paltrow and that they named their first child Apple.

You'll probably also remember their music video for the track Yellow, in which Chris was seen walking soaked along a very cold looking beach, filmed in one continuous shot.

But this Christmas you'll be able to hear all about the band and their career to date as they present a one hour Christmas special for us!

The band all met at University College London back in 1996. Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland were the first two to decide to start a band.

Later they were joined by classmate Guy Berryman and Chris' old school mate Phil Harvey. And, despite having no previous experience, Will Champion, a pianist, guitarist and tin whistle player, took on the role of drummer and learnt the new instrument very quickly.

The band originally signed to independent label, Fierce Panda and released an EP but after finishing their final exams they secured a five album deal with Parlophone.

They released three EPs without scoring a hit before the track, Shiver made it into the top 40.

But it was Yellow that proved to be their breakthrough song, reaching number four in the charts.

Facts you may or may not know about Coldplay

Coldplay support many social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair and Amnesty International.

They have performed at many charity gigs, including Band Aid 20 and Live 8 and for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland's first musical project was called Pectoralz

Johhny Buckland made a cameo appearance in the 'rom zom com', Shaun Of The Dead. He played a supporter of the fictional charity, ZombAid.

Chris Martin made a cameo appearance in the second series of the hit comedy, Extras

On April 1, 2006 The Guardian reported Chris Martin was a supporter of David Cameron and the Conservative Party and had written a song for the party called Talk To David. It was later revealed to be an April Fool's Day joke.

The video to the track Yellow was made with one single continuous shot, we don't know how many times it took for them to get it right though!

Well, its not Christmas Day or Boxing Day!!!

GMG goes for star studded Christmas with Ricky Gervais, Tom Jones, Coldplay and Barry Manilow

GMG Radio will be having some very impressive guests over at its place this Christmas… and there’s not a turkey amongst them*.

The group, which has just won the UK’s last analogue FM licence, will be networking its shows for Christmas and Boxing Day and has chosen a raft of celebrities to steer the channels for them.

Christmas day on Smooth will see two hours of Tom Jones picking his festive favourites, followed by a show from Ricky Gervais and a specially recorded programme from Barry Manilow in the evening.

Switch over to the group’s Century brand in the North West and you can party with Boyzone in the morning (a long running dream of ours, Ed), before spending Christmas afternoon with The Feeling and the evening in the company of Leona Lewis.

And there’s more to unwrap on Boxing Day…

Mick Hucknall will be Smooth’s star attraction for a two hour Simply Red special in the morning, with the evening being headlined by Andrew Lloyd Webber in conversation with Josh Groban.

Coldplay will also be presenting a one-hour show on Century focusing on their career to date.
