StephenG
Ok, so I got myself some lyrics written down, they read as songs with verses, choruses ectra. Bit of rhyming and a bit of off hand lyrical exploration. Still I don't write simply and I have a hard time turning music out of my weird lyrics. Im quite limited on my knowledge of the guitar, I only really know open chords. (Please do not steal my ideas, you are not me, you do not see the world as how I do and it would therefore make no sense for you to use this) Let me read the newspaper, Cause as far as I can tell, I’m just lying here, sitting in the dark, Thinking about the time when it all just fell apart, We had no money, no shoes, and we couldn’t pay the rent, Well yea, life was tougher back then, but people helped us through. I went to serenade you from your pent house window, You said I’d need one hell of amp if you were to hear, So I went down to the store to buy something I couldn’t really afford, But I told the guy, just fuck it, love’s worth more than the board. So I need to pretty much know how to build songs, or the ingrediants behind the musical components of a song.
Pseudonym
Sorry, but music is not something that can be explained in a few sentences. Understanding creation of music is like learning a language: it takes time, patience, practice, and you will never stop getting better and better. However, if you have some specific ideas for sounds, and want some instrumentals to put with your lyrics, let me know. I am in a band and I do a lot of song-writing so I can help. I've created songs with people on Coldplaying before. I have recording software and play several instruments. If you want to throw me some ideas and see if we can't work out something, let me know.;)
Tnspieler1012
First.... ^WTF!!AVATARS!!!1! next, you're off on the wrong step IM0. Tons of people post poems and lyrics on here in trying to make a song. But you can't just shove poetry and music together so easily. The music requires a specific structure and melody with which you then adapt lyrics. Doing it the other way is extremely difficult, especially when you haven't yet formulated a rythm and melody to go with the lyrics. The components of a song are generally: rythm, chords and melody. My suggestion is that you forget your lyrics for the now, pick up the guitar and start fiddling around with the chords you know (and some you don't). Try different combinations, rythms etc. and when you find something you like, start piecing the rest together. The chords and melody designate the mood and feel of the song that the lyrics are meant to describe. But until you have something other than lyrics to go off, it'll be tough to help you out. You could check out a book on music theory, but the best way is probably to just figure things out for yourself, and learn from the arrangements of other bands/artists. I tend to write the lyrics first because I look at them both quite seperatly. In the style of The Smiths. As in the lyrics do not effect the design of a song but moreso slip over the top of it. I'm well aware I may be doing something very wrong tho.

Sorry, I do nit have MSN, I do have AIM (it's free) There is no wrong way to do music. It just may be easier to have music in mind while writing lyrics. ez2plz
sounds like some storytelling type of lyrics, you might want to listen to bruce springsteen or billy joel for guidance, that's their gig. (more story than melody) - just my opinion
