Do you ever get sad over someone who has been dead for a while?

Featured Replies

Recently, I have been listening to a lot of John Lennon, and at times I start to feel sad that he is no longer alive. I really wish he could still be alive and making his wonderful music.

I also felt the same about Jeff Buckley after getting his first album. It got me sad that he made such amazing music and was no longer around to do so.

Anyone else ever get sad about someone they discover but know is dead?

YES. I do. I remember when I first heard "A Horse With No Name" (when I was like eight) I thought it was one of those crazy modern songs that doesn't make any sense -- turns out now they're just another old Baby-Boomer band living on its fans memories -- and none of the original members are even IN the band anymore. Life sucks like that.

Yep, I just did in the "Things You Wish You Could Say" thread... about my grandfather. And sometimes when it's late at night and I'm introspective I'll get sad about someone like Princess Diana or Judy Garland, because I sort of see my mother in them. Even tho she's not dead. :P

Yes.

but usually over people i knew personally. Like friends, grandparents etc. I never got sad over a musical artist or some movie star.

about famous people? just John Lennon and George Harrison

and my mom

Yes.

What she said.

it's a different kind of sadness, it's like Nick said

I cry sometimes when I think about the death of Chris Martin's talent. But maybe it never existed...

Chris Martin's talent isn't a person. Automatic fail.

Might want to try harder next time.

It didn't say it had to be a person. Someone does not automatically mean a person.

Yes it does.

Go back to high school English class.

Or are you still not in high school?

And, yes, it does. I'm quite sorry.

Aliens are sentient beings; ergo, they are people.

Person: Human being; individual; Specific human being

You fail at internet.

That definition is wrong. Aliens are individuals. If we, say, knew of sentient aliens, we would change the definition. However aliens don't exist, so we haven't.

Also, you fail at life if this is how you spend your spare time. I'm just saying.

How do you know that aliens don't exist? There's not hard evidence that they do, but the chances that they exist somewhere in the universe are somewhat good. Also, although at least some of them are obviously made up, there have been reports of aliens. Some of them might be true...who knows?

If we, say, knew of sentient aliens

I only said aliens do not exist because my personal philosophy is not to beleive in anything until it has reasonable evidence for it.

I say because there is no seriously reasonable evidence for the existance of alien sentient life, I do not beleive in it.

Why can't you learn to read?

But you wrote in your earlier posts that they do not exist. Contradiction much?

HOLY FUCK.

I just explained to TWICE you that I don't beleive they exist, for reasons I won't repeat because I've ALREADY SAID THEM.

If you're trying to come off as intelligent you may want to think a little bit more before you pots.

No but the fact you didn't come out and say "I don't believe they exist." You said "They don't exist." There's a difference. You lose.

Obviously when someone says "they .... (insert whatever here)" they are expressing their worldview.

I wonder why we're arguing about this....
