Ashton Kutcher and Keira Knightley are the top celebrity inspirations for baby names in the UK today.

All the little Ashtons and Keiras named after them will grow up alongside Judes (after Jude Law) and Scarletts (Scarlett Johansson), names which also make the top ten.

Other celebrity-inspired names include Paris, Alexa and Rihanna for girls and Leonardo, Romeo and Guy for boys, according to the internet family history website findmypast.com.

And in the past few years, 34 parents called their sons Prince Michael, after one of pop star Michael Jackson's children.

The reign of such names is as fleeting as a celebrity's popularity, the website found.

The number of babies named Angelina more than doubled in 2001 as the film Tomb Raider was released, along with newborns named Rihanna increasing fivefold when her album 'A Girl Like Me' was released in 2006.

Some names have fallen out of favour as the name has become synonymous with the star. The number of new baby Thierrys dropped from well over 100 in 2006 to just seven when Thierry Henry left Arsenal the following year.

The number of Britneys has also decreased over the last few years.

Other celebrity-inspired names include five babies named Mowgli, after actress Ashlee Simpson's son and the Jungle Book character.

However, unusual names are not just a recent trend. Parents 100 years ago were also naming their children with bizarre monikers, including one girl who was given a name for every letter of the alphabet in 1883.

 

Another child was registered as 'Studley Bust' North in 1901.

 

Debra Chatfield, marketing manager at findmypast.com, said: 'Families and names are all important to us. It is fascinating to see how certain names have shown strong staying power, while other names haven't survived social change or celebrity association.

'There has been a revival of more traditional British names becoming popular again in recent years, with parents naming their children after grandparents and great-grandparents to ensure family names survive.

 

'Possibly this is a reflection of the recent growth in popularity of researching your family tree, but Brits are also showing their creative flair with a plethora of celebrity and globally inspired names too.'

many cani people have done that (that's what rumours say, and btw cani people are like chavs there :uhoh: which i guess are the ones calling their kids Ashton and Keira).

 

but honestly i've met people with curious names, both original and unoriginal ones.

 

a lot of kids have been named after some soap opera series famous at the time, like Cristal for girls, and more to current days, kids are named after OT participants (singer academy or something like it is called there i think).

 

i'm lucky i'm not on any of those groups :p

 

anyways as official data says the most popular names for kid is Alejandro and for girls is Lucía, that's since like the last 5 years, nice names after all, but i met a lot of girls called Jasmine after the Aladdin character. :dozey:

enrique is not that popular here really, at least i'm lucky that my friends don't like him :p he used to be popular like 10 years ago or so.

the only relative of him that i enjoyed was his grandfather, that man was so hilarious.

Jimi Hendrix and John Frusciante.To tell the truth if I had a daughter I wouldn't really give her a Biblical name I think my favorite normal girls names are Isabel and Ruby:)
