Saffire
I didn't see a thread about this, but it's a pretty big deal. I love a good revolution! :D Watching a government crumble is beautiful... too bad it will be replaced with another one ;) Obama: "The last thing that I want to do is have the US be a foil for the..." oh shut up. I mean, seriously? You won't give the protesters moral support because you're afraid the government will use that as an excuse to crack down on them? Aren't they already blaming the US? Aren't they already shooting protesters? Lame.

Matter-Eater Lad
Damn Jay I was just about to make a thread about this. But I do like Obama's approach to this, stay out of it. If Obama pulled a Bush or started to do what others in Congress are saying we'd risk hurting the movement in Iran. Our actions towards Iran only strengthen the extremist and hurt the movement to become more open. The best thing our government can do is shut up and stay out of it, we risk hurting it and turning the moderates back into extremist if we get to involved. Just like if we were to attack them over nukes, we'd just turn the moderates into anti-American extremist. I'm happy to see people in Iran standing up to extremist and wanting a more free and open society, but our governments involvement and anti-Iran policies only risk destroying that movement. Saffire
Nick, your approach as a statist is far too subtle for my taste. I say we just nuke the whole place! Hopefully Ahmadinejad won't pull an Indiana Jones and hide in a refrigerator.

This is the perfect opportunity for Ahmadenajad to counter, "As soon as you stop arresting peaceful marijuana smokers."

Finally, someone understands that Obama is making the right choice. Being like Bush and getting too involved can do nothing but hurt the US and gain us more enemies. Besides, is Obama's moral support really gonna help these protesters? Will it make the deaths that have occurred seem okay because the US has said "good job"? Really. Saffire
We weren't alone in our revolution. Good point. This is a difficult situation for statists, because they honestly believe (how quaint!) that words have meaning when it comes to foreign relations. So if Obama utters the wrong combination of syllables, suddenly the Iranian government is "justified" in killing off this uprising. That's like something a 13 year old girl would think in a school cafeteria setting, but international politics is based on force alone. Truth be told, I really don't give a crap what Obama says about this. But it would increase his moral standing in the world one iota if he were to support the protesters. The other problem for statists is this isn't a democratic revolution. In all likelihood, most Iranians don't mind their current government. There's no proof the election was rigged, and Ahmadinejad has a very large support base (lower income, rural, retards). So the protests are being carried out by upper-class Iranians who are sick of being taxed to death and seeing their money go to these rural parts of the country. It's like the exact opposite of the French Revolution! That's frightening to governments everywhere, because it shows them that a revolution doesn't have to have majority-support to be threatening to their rule. Best u Can
I didn't see a thread about this, but it's a pretty big deal. I love a good revolution! :D Watching a government crumble is beautiful... no such thing as a "beautiful" revolution... It's always bloody. I believe we are only at the beginning of a revolution in Iran. I'm a little disturbed at our media coverage, considering they think this is about a candidate. This is not about a candidate, it's about freedom.

Matter-Eater Lad
I fear that the Iranian government is holding back right now and that a genocide or a large massacre is on the way. I'm not sure of the death toll right now but I think its under 100, but I fear they will secretly arrest and kill many.

Tnspieler1012
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8115358.stm Thats some serious shit. wow, this political tension is dangerously exciting. Apparently the only legal protests going on in iran are ones that are blaming The U.K. and U.S. for the conflict. and I think I saw on the news that a protestor was actually shown on Iranian T.V. saying she was only reacting to the pressure induced by the BBC... Matter-Eater Lad
yes, but the fur hats also helped General Washington's army during the cold war They're sneaky like that, first their hats help us win the war then over 200 years later we have auto bail outs and communism.
