Competitors from across the globe battled it out yesterday on the world's toughest assault course.

More than 2,700 adrenaline junkies signed up to run the Tough Guy Race at South Perton farm in Wolverhampton. Entrants even had to sign a death warrant before starting the gruelling challenge.

Competitors walked away with scrapes, burns, dehydration, hypothermia, sprains, twists, and broken bones.

They faced a six-mile cross-country run and were then met by 21 different obstacles- with this year's theme being the 'Gorilla Stinga'.

The hardy competitors had to battle through six-foot high stinging nettles- before

pressing on to slide through mud filled barbed wire trenches.

'There is nothing like this in the world and that is why people from all over the globe want to come here.' said organiser Mouser Wilson.

'I had a captain in Afghanistan write to me saying the British Army recognises Tough Guy as the most arduous test of physical and mental endurance.'
