June 20, 201016 yr funeral doesn't have a weak track on it. i prefer the production on it and it runs well track to track. when it came out arcade fire were new to me so it had slight novelty over the second expected album. neon bible has a few dodgy tracks which don't do much. i find it overproduced in comparison to their first album and lacks the raw edge the first had. funeral - 9 neon bible - 7.8
June 20, 201016 yr on a purely subjective basis (ie how much do i enjoy listening to it) i would choose Neon Bible over Funeral, simply because NB is more my type of music. but if you're going to go into how unique and original each record is and technically how brilliant it is, it's quite difficult to agree against the superiority of funeral. but those things only play a minor role in how much i enjoy an album. funeral - 9.3 neon bible - 9.4
June 20, 201016 yr Fuuuuuuuuneral. I skip more tracks on Neon Bible than on Funeral. Plus, I like the overall sound better on Funeral. And the songs are better. And I just love it. And stuff. :wacky: Edit: comparing last.fm plays: Funeral: 568 Neon Bible: 354

June 20, 201016 yr If I'm honest...I've never listened to either! I first heard of Arcade Fire when 'Keep The Car Running' was released.. I heard that song and thought it was average, haven't heard any more by them except from 'The Suburbs' which is a bit bland in my opinion! I think I may download Funeral at some point.
June 20, 201016 yr If I'm honest...I've never listened to either! GO LISTEN. :whip: (and vote for Funeral afterwards )
June 20, 201016 yr funeral is definitely the place to start. right from track one. keep the car running is good but only if you are already into them. once your mind is bent into shape all is good don't worry

June 20, 201016 yr Author I prefer Funeral by the smallest of margins. While there aren't any songs on either album that I don't like, I think that overall the Funeral tracks are a little stronger. Also Funeral contains my favourite songs including Haiti. On Neon Bible I find songs like The Well and the Lighthouse and Windowsill to be a little lacking in awesomeness. Funeral 9.5 Neon Bible 8.7
June 20, 201016 yr you skip tracks on arcade fire albums???? if you dont mind me asking. WHY! 7 "The Well and the Lighthouse" – 3:56 8 "Antichrist Television Blues" – 5:10 9 "Windowsill" – 4:16 it is rare i am ever in the mood to listen to these songs

The first song I heard by them was Rebellion. My friend showed them to me. I was very meh about it, mostly because I didn't care for Win's voice on first listen. But after hearing Wake Up I had to buy the album.
June 20, 201016 yr you skip tracks on arcade fire albums???? if you dont mind me asking. WHY!I skip tracks on loads of albums. It's a bad habit, but addicting. I nearly never skip anything on Funeral, but I just don't like the first three tracks on Neon Bible. And when I listen to NB, I usually only listen to Intervention, Black Wave and No Cars Go. Can't help it really, but I often lack patience to listen to the whole album. Another pro-Funeral argument: the songs are better live than most Neon Bible ones.

Although I do adore Antichrist Television Blues. More so for the lyrics and aggressiveness that seeps through the track.

Another pro-Funeral argument: the songs are better live than most Neon Bible ones. another good point, as a side note. from neon bible i think black wave, ocean of noise and no cars go are the best and can rival some of the funeral work. sometimes if i'm in the mood black mirror, keep the car running, neon bible, my body is a cage and intervention are very good. the second album lacks the beauty of the first and there seems to be more desperation in wins delivery and lyrics (which isn't necessarily a bad thing but i prefer him on funeral)
June 20, 201016 yr Author I definitely agree that Ocean of Noise can rival Funeral work. No Cars Go, I have a hard time with that one mostly because I was already super familiar with it from the EP. I'm not the biggest fan of reusing songs like that.
June 20, 201016 yr i agree that neon bible does lack the edge that funeral has. but i just feel that it travels much better as a single piece of art. funeral sort of feels a little choppy and messy in places. but the back to back to back combo of wake up haiti and rebellion is almost paranoid- subterreanean - exit music - esque.

June 20, 201016 yr i guess i also find neon bible an easier less taxing album to listen to. whereas funeral is much heavier emotionally and a more challenging listen. but as you can see from the scores i gave each album i find it quite difficult to clearly define why one is better than the other, the superiority if purely personal and very very minuscule. on a sidenote. it is very refreshing to have a debate comparing two great albums of this era. this blows up in the faces of those who claim the album and the appreciation of that art form is dead. if anything i would say that this generation appreciate it much more than previous ones, we have the choice of listening to it as an album or just single tracks yet we still choice the former.
June 20, 201016 yr Funeral. A lot of the songs on Neon Bible annoy me. :laugh3: annoy seems quite a strong word how come?
