Wyclef Jean to run for President of Haiti

Featured Replies

^Nope he doesn't.

He is really out of touch with the people having not lived there since his young childhood. He made his announcement to bid through television. That in itself shows that he is really just speaking to the elite of Haiti. With such poverty in the country and object like a television is a luxury item. It would have been so much smarter to use the radio since more people there can afford those.

And yes, I agree that what the past Presidential team did was not effective. But these elections are an opportunity for a new Haitian to lead the country.

I just have a HUGE problem with people coming from the outside, entering a country as if they have all the solutions.

Sure Wyclef helped after the disaster, but where has he been the past 30 years? Not Haiti.

I would like to say though I think his heart is in the right place.

Briggins - You mention that Wyclef Jean should have used the RADIO. But you also mentioned that it was a problem that he does not speak the native language(s). So using the radio, they would probably not understand what he said. On the telly - that is if they had access to (or could afford) a TV set - they could see his face. And many met him when he was in the country to help in the days following the devastating earthquake. So many of the Haitians - also the poor ones - know what he looks like.

Normally, I would agree, but I understand that the Haitian society is very corrupt so I am afraid that whoever gets elected of the "insiders", i.e. of those living in Haiti and running for president, is part of the existing, corrupt system.

I hope that I am wrong here.

So basically if he used the tv he was targeting english speaking rich folks. See what I'm getting at here?

The corruption in Haiti has been going on for such a long time. Like I know this is horrible, but a big reason why there was so much aid offered was because governments like the Canadian government for example have had their noses deep in Haiti's affairs for a long time. It just took a devestating national disaster to bring it to people's attention.

Here is an article on it, an interesting read for sure:

Didn't he address the people of Haiti in their native tongue at the Telethon? :inquisitive:

I wonder if he'll actually move to Haiti now so that he can run for Presidency in 5 years then .......

:thinking:I certainly dont feel he is qualified to be President, for many

reasons, now or in 5 years. But I do feel he could still help his birth country by using his popularity to influence votes towards someone who is qualified.....as in the Oprah/Obama buddy system. :dozey:
