At 13:29 o'clock (1:29pm): Danish police receiving alarm of explosion in a little toilet in Hotel Joergensen in Copenhagen very close to Noerreport Station that it one of the most used Danish station.

 

The man tried to cause an explosion that would have killed himself - possible suicide bomber.

 

A man was seen fleeing the hotel and running into a nearby park - "Ørstedsparken".

 

The man had a belt around his belly or maybe a black bag - fear of it being explosives or a bomb.

 

"Rullemarie" that is a device on wheel used to neutralize bombs / explosives was in action. It cut off the belt / or removed the bag.

 

A shot was heard fired by "Rullemarie" AFTER the bag or belt had been removed from the man.

 

The man is neutralized - he has been lying on the ground in Ørstedsparken for more than 5 hours. It has been raining and only 14-15 degrees Celsius.

 

An ambulance is waiting to bring the man (a potential terrorist) to the "Trauma Center" at the University Hospital in Copenhagen.

 

It might have been a man preparing an act of terror - the bomb went off accidentally at the hotel.

If he did not act on his own, but on behalf of a group - then someone from the group might try to free him as he is under surveillance.

Danish police have detained a man injured by a small blast at a Copenhagen hotel amid media reports he was a would-be suicide bomber.

He suffered slight injuries on his face and arms and was arrested in a park where he is believed to have fled after the blast at the Jorgensens Hotel.

Police told the Associated Press news agency the blast had occurred in a toilet of the hotel.

The hotel is located about 90m (90 yds) from a busy railway station.

Police with sniffer dogs searched the park, Orstedsparken, and hotel, which was evacuated immediately after the explosion, Denmark's Politiken newspaper said on its website.

"We hope and believe that the person is the one who ran away from the hotel," police spokesman Moeller Jacobsen told AP.

He would not confirm several media reports, which suggested that the arrested man had tried to blow himself up, nor would he give details of the suspect's nationality.

The Jorgensens, described as a low-cost hotel, is located on Israel's Square, in the centre of the Danish capital. It is a short distance from Norreport Station.

One from the Copenhagen's police - Henrik Moeller Jacobsen - was acting as spokesman for the police and was questioned, but he had not much news as the investigation is going on.

 

So far the man has not been charged with anything. Investigations are going on.

 

Earlier today another policeman reported that the man is a foreigner who has used TWO DIFFERENT IDENTITIES.

Press release from PET = The Police Intelligence Service: The PET has been involved in the neutralization / disarmament of the man who ran out of the hotel after the explosion. PET = The Police Intelligence Service says that it is too early to say for sure that it is not an act of terrorism.

Danish police have detained a man injured by a small blast at a Copenhagen hotel amid media reports he was a would-be suicide bomber.

 

He suffered slight injuries on his face and arms and was arrested in a park where he is believed to have fled after the blast at the Jorgensens Hotel.

 

Police told the Associated Press news agency the blast had occurred in a toilet of the hotel.

 

The hotel is located about 90m (90 yds) from a busy railway station.

A PISTOL has been found in the hotel where there was an EXPLOSION in a small toilet room. The toilet was totally destroyed, and the man himself was seen running out of the hotel with blood in his face and on one arm.

 

The man headed for the nearby Ørstedparken" close to Noerreport Station,which is Denmark's busiest railway station.

 

The police found and arrested the man in Ørstedparken. He had a bag plus a belt around his waist. "Rullemarie" - translated "Rolling Marie" - a device on wheel was in action cutting off the belt using remotely-directed scissors and firing shots at the belt and bag to neutralize any explosives / bombs therein AFTER having removed the bag and belt from the man.

 

After lying 6 hours on the ground in Ørstedparken, the man was taken to the Trauma Center of the nearby Copenhagen University Hospital in an ambulance. He is seriously wounded, but it is not life-threatening.

 

The man might be too seriously wounded to appear before court today for a short preliminary examination with a view to having him remanded to custody.

 

The man is 40 years own with an European or North-American look. He is good at speaking English, but has refused to help the police with information about his identity or purpose of stay in Denmark.

 

He has been in Denmark for a period of time.

 

The police does not know who he is, because only yesterday evening, the police found out that he has used two different identities. Until then the police was sure who he was.

 

So far the police has no indication of the man being part of a group, so it is likely that he has been acting on his own within the framework of a criminal act.

 

PET, the Danish Police Intelligence Service is involved in the investigations.

 

Intelligence services of other countries - and not only European countries - have been contacted with a view to establishing the true identy of this man.

On Sunday's press briefing held by the Danish police, it was revealed that the bomber had bought a small cardboard box plus tape in a post office in the days up to his arrest. The Danish police has found papers on the man connecting him to 3 different identities, but the problem is that none of the identities are authentic.

 

Press briefing by the police on 12.9 at 3pm: The presumed bomber from Hotel Joergensen had bought a bus ticket to Belgium with departure Friday afternoon. The man was only in possession of a small amount of explosives - just enough to destroy the tiny toilet and a little more - the rest was found by the technicians of the Danish police.

 

TV2 News on 12.9.10: Jean Asselborn, Luxembourg's Minister of Foreign Affairs has said this to a radio station DNR (according to the newspaper "Luxemburger Wort"): The suspected bomber had a false Luxembourg passport. The man has told Danish police that he was from Luxembourg, and he had a Luxembourg passport. The document turned out to be false.

 

Swedish SVT: The man speaks French, German and Flemish, but not Arabic. In his luggage, the Danish police has found a pistol with ammunition, passports from 3 European countries and a bus ticket to Brussels in Belgium with departure on Friday afternoon.

The identity of the presumed bomber is still unknown. The police in Luxembourg and Belgium are investigating as the presumed bomber had passports from these two countries.

 

A Belgian doctor with the name Jean Louis de Vicq de Cumptiche has told Danish Television that 7 years ago someone broke into his home. Some family passports were among the things stolen. The burglary was reported to the Belgian police. The name in the Belgian false passport that was in the presumed bomber’s possession is David Francois J de Vicq de Cumptiche. There are few people with that family name - de Vicq de Cumptiche - and certainly no David Francois. The Belgian doctor is therefore convinced that someone changed the first name in one of the passports stolen from his home.

 

The presumed bomber has an artificial leg from under the knee. Normally an artificial limb contains the name of the hospital involved and a number so that identification is possible. But the artificial limb did not contain this – the number and hospital name had been removed.

 

The Danish police is convinced that the presumed bomber is acting on his own – a so-called “lone(ly) wolf”.

 

The man has asked for the Bible, the Koran and a Jewish work. The man has claimed to be a vegetarian.

 

The man spent 38 minutes on the toilet (in the cellar of the hotel) when the explosives exploded. He had stored the explosive in a box for valuables in the hotel’s cellar. In the toilet room a multi-tool was found.

 

4 cases of bomb alarms in the Copenhagen area, but no bomb was found.

 

A train station was evacuated after a bag was found left in the station’s toilet, probably forgotten what turned out to be the case. But no chances were taken. Trains were suspended, and “Rullemarie” – the device on wheel was brought to the station.

 

Frederiksberg shopping center was evacuated after a trunk was found – it was linked to something. It turned out to be a Japanese tourist who wanted to make sure that his trunk was not stolen. Also here “Rullemarie” showed up.

According to the Danish police, the bomber does NOT speak Arabic, and he did ask for the BIBLE, the KORAN and a Jewish religious book.

 

The police has got a DNA profile of the man, and the DNA profile has been sent to many foreign countries in the hope of a "hit" - that the police in a foreign country can help identify the bomber.

 

Danish police and European Europol have published video shootings from Hotel Joergensen and photos of the bomber together with an international appeal to the public to help identify the man.

 

Earlier today Danish police received Serbian fingerprints from the Serbian police, but the Serbian fingerprints were NOT identical with the fingerprints of the Danish bomber. So the identity of the bomber is still unknown.

 

The question is: Was the man acting entirely on his own as a "lone(ly) wolf" OR is he part of a group? If the latter, the group members have had quite some time to cover up while the Danish Police and Europol are trying very hard to identify the bomber.

TATP is very popular and often used by terrorists and assassins. This was reported by the Belgium newspaper "Het Nieuwsblad".

 

The man must have a professional background and might be able to conceal his identity for several months. He is in prison after the court verdict "solitary confinement".

 

It turns out that the man has visited a post office near the hotel twice - the last time was one hour before the explosion in the hotel cellar. He bought 2 envelopes - one of them with bubble material inside.

 

He arrived two hours earlier than initially announced to the press.

 

In the man's bag was a map over Copenhagen from 2008-2009 and not the latest map from 2010 as is available in the hotel. So police is now trying to find out where he got that "old" Copenhagen map - maybe in a cafe?

 

Facts: The man speaks French, German and English. He has an artificial right leg where the identification number has been removed, the man has changed looks several times.

Danish newspaper has talked to a man who recognizes bomber as Chechen

 

ACCORDING TO DANISH NEWSPAPER “BT”, THE BOMBER HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED

 

According to the DANISH newspaper “BT” the bomber has been recognized. A foreign sports coach – a box trainer – says that the arrested bomber is a 24-year-old Chechen.

 

In Wednesday’s BT, Danes can read an interview with a French-speaking box trainer who says that he knows the man who is arrested in Copenhagen after the explosion in Hotel Joergensen last Friday.

 

“It is L.D. The man is from Chechnya, and he is 24 years old. He has been a regular visitor to a boxing club in Liège in Belgium for 5 years”, says box trainer & super intendant Albert Syben. He adds that the man travelled a lot between Chechnya and Belgium. And he is a believing Muslim.

 

“BT” has made the full identity of this young boxer-to-be (not only the initials) available to the Danish police who has called this information very interesting, but finds it strange that the man should be a Chechzen / from Cheznya.

Latest news in relation to the explosion in hotel in Denmark and bomber

 

News from DR1 and TV2 News in relation to the BOMBER in Copenhagen:

 

I saw the press conference with chief superintendent Foldager that started at 11am.

 

Foldager confirmed that the Danish police are absolutely sure that the bomber is a 24-year-old man called Lors Doukaiev (LD) from Cheznya. His DNA and fingerprints have not been confirmed, but there is a close cooperation with the Belgian police. LD was born in Cheznya on 12.1.1986, but has lived in Liege in Belgium for the last 5 years. The Belgian police has assisted the Danish police, and LD’s residence in Liege has been searched thoroughly / ransacked.

 

On Monday eve (6.9), the bomber took a bus from Liege to Copenhagen.

 

The Danish police have questioned the neighbours of Hotel Joergensen and the neighbouring shops and found out that LD bought a pair of rubber gloves. Not till on Tuesday, 14.9 did the Danish police publish a photo of the French-speaking bomber. When seeing the bomber’s nose, it was clear that the man was a boxer or had boxing as a hobby. Consequently the boxing editors and a French-speaking journalist of the Danish newspaper “BT” contacted French and Belgian boxing unions asking them whether they knew of a French-speaking, one-legged boxer. They found a boxing trainer who recognized the bomber based on the description (one-legged boxer) and photos of the bomber arrested in Copenhagen. He was trained as a boxer in the boxing club “Cocktail Liege”. His boxing weight is 70 kg. LD has boxed 20 boxing matches and won the 12 of these matches. Editor-in-chief Peter Brüchman was interviewed by DR News in their studio.

 

It is thanks to “BT” that the identity of the bomber is known – even though the Danish police would have traced him very soon. The Danish police confronted the bomber with the fact that his identity had been established. The bomber would neither confirm nor deny being Lors Doukaiev, born on 12.1.1986 in Cheznya and living in Liege in Belgium for the last 5 years.

 

2 years ago, he got an artificial leg. Already then, he made sure that the serial number of the artificial leg was removed / erased so that his identity would be difficult to trace.

 

The bomber is said to be a very social person.

 

Belgian police in Liege: As there are not many one-legged boxers, we are 100% sure that the bomber is Lors Doukaiev. Mette Fugl, DR’s reporter / correspondent: The boxing club of which LD is a member is situated in a tough neighbourhood.

 

A Belgian local newspaper from Liege “La Meuse”: The bomber LD (Lors Doukaiev) is a naturalized Belgian, i.e. he has acquired Belgian citizenship. He and his mother came to Belgium more than 5 years ago, and his mother is a doctor in Belgium.

 

According to Belgian journalist Yves Barbieux from the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, LD and his mother came from Chechnya to Belgium in 2002. Barbieux spoke to the wife of the box trainer in the club “Cocktail Liege” of which LD was a member. According to her, the bomber LD has apparently been missing for the last 2 months. “No one could find him. Many wondered what had happened to him and were worried. Nobody knew that he was in Copenhagen”. He never shook hands with her, because his religion did not allow him to do that.

 

He has the reputation of being a fundamentalist. The editor-in-chief of the local paper “La Meuse” talked to a French-speaking man who said that it was a problem that LD grew a beard. Boxing is practically impossible if you have a beard. LD travelled to Chechnya quite frequently.

 

LD’s former brother-in-law Shepa Berzanov has been interviewed. He was married to LD’s sister for 2 years, and they have a son together. Berzanov has not seen his sister or the baby for months, he said in an interview. LD is not particularly religious and did not see himself as a Chechen. “LD did not visit the mosque much, and he didn’t speak Arabic. Nor did he like the other muslims, and he claimed that I was not a Muslim”, says Bersanov to Ritzau. Bersanov says that Dukaiev’s sympathies are with the Russians in the Chechnya conflict.

 

Russian authorities are interested in the bomber because he comes from Cheznya. According to Russia’s ambassador in Denmark, Tejmuraz Ranirstivili, Russia is investigating what Russia knows about LD. The Russia’s interest in the bomber was triggered when the bomber’s name, nationality and age were published by Danish police. Russia’s embassy in Denmark then contacted the authorities in Russia to find out what Russia knew about the bomber. Any information Russia might have will be made available to the Danish authorities, said the ambassador.

 

The bomber lost his right leg when, at the age of 12 years, he stepped on a mine in Cheznya according to the dean at the Institut Superior d’Architecture Saint-Luc, Norbert Nelles who told TV2 News that. He said that the presumed bomber was angry with the Russians. LD studied architecture for 2 terms (semesters), and Norbert Nelles was his teacher. LD is one of many children who are war victims from the first war in Chechnya according to Lobov Krsjisjanovskaja who – in 1996 – was head of a relief organization. At that time she brought the then 10–year-old LD to Norway to escape the war. “He was a sweet, little boy”, she says. She met him in hospital no. 9 in Grosnij, the capital in Chechnya as – only 10 years old – he had stepped on a mine in the family’s back garden (backyard).

 

LD’s missing lower part of the right leg and the artificial right leg were the police’s most important clue (lead).

 

The one-legged bomber was in Copenhagen in the spring of 2008 as an architecture student together with his class. In Copenhagen LD visited a beach south of Copenhagen where the one-legged Chechen made acrobatic tricks from a springboard – much to his co-students’ surprise. The trip to Copenhagen in 2008 explains why LD was in possession of a 2008 map over Copenhagen.

 

Many paradoxes and contradictions in this case. Was he 10 or 12 when he lost one leg? Was he a fundamentalist or not?

DR1: According to the Belgian newspaper “Het Nieuwsblad”, the bomber has not lived at his official address in Herstal near Liege in Belgium for several months. He used to live in a small apartment on the second (US: third) floor together with his mother and sister. Suddenly they were all gone. The police came Wednesday morning to search the apartment thoroughly. It turned out that a new family had moved in there!

 

TV2 News showed a film from 2008 titled “Red Corner, Blue Corner”. It was a documentary on boxing, and Lors Doukaiev has a dominant role in that film: “I am Lors” – after 10 more seconds – “Doukaiev”. He told us that he had lived in Belgium for 7 years (in 2008 meaning that he came to Belgium in 2001). He started boxing in Arlon where he boxed for two years, before he moved to Liège to study – there he boxed for 3 years.

 

He was shown running about with a pretty (and expensive) artificial leg. He was asked what had happened. He replied that he grew up in Checnya and in 1996, as he was 10 years and 1 month old, he stepped on a mine – an anti-personnel bomb - and lost the lower part of the right leg.

 

A person who knew him (maybe his boxing trainer) had the impression that LD did not like Chechens – that he was mentally pro-russian.

 

LD is something of a loner – he always came to the boxing club alone and left it alone. All of those being interviewed about LD said that he was very friendly. A man told us that LD had his religion and wanted to pray at the hours prescribed by the Koran. But apart from that, he seemed like everyone else. He (and others) could not see LD as a terrorist.

 

There are rumours that LD’s mother and sister are in Russia. His father is believed to be in Chechnya which could explain LD’s frequent visits to Chechnya.

 

A source said that LD was born in Russia by Chechen parents, and they moved to Chechnya after few years. In 2003 the family came to Germany and in 2005 to Belgium.

 

Several Danish policemen involved in the investigations have travelled to Belgium to assist the Belgian police. They are now having a close cooperation.

 

Today in POLAND there is the annual meeting held by a large group of exiled Chechens. The leader of this group has been arrested by Poland’s police – probably upon Russian pressure. A few years ago, Copenhagen / Denmark hosted the exiled Chechens’ annual meeting, and Russia wanted the leader extradited. The leader was arrested by Danish police for investigations and then he was released again – Russia was furious. A visit by the Russian President Putin to Denmark was cancelled (or rather delayed as the visit took place last year, I think it was – and the President was now Medvedev).

 

One of the exiled Chechen politicians lives in Denmark and thinks that he might be the target of LD’s bomb.

 

Russia’s President or Prime Minister Putin is said to have a list of exiled Chechens that they would like to see dead.

BOMB SUSPECT 'TARGETED' DANISH PAPER JYLLANDS-POSTEN

 

Danish police think a man hurt in a blast was making a LETTER BOMB to use against a newspaper which published CARTOONS OF the PROPHET MUHAMMAD.

 

The man was arrested in a park in Copenhagen on 10 September after a small explosion at a nearby hotel.

 

Police spokesman Svend Foldager said the device would have had the explosive force of a hand grenade.

 

He was "reasonably confident" Jyllands-Posten had been targeted by the suspect, who denies any crime.

 

The suspected would-be letter bomber pleaded not guilty to FIREARMS CHARGES and PUTTING LIVES AT RISK when he appeared in court on 11 September.

 

He has been named by police as LORS DUKAYEV, born in 1986 in CHECHNYA and now LIVING IN BELGIUM.

 

The relatively low-tech device - which contained TATP high explosive and ball bearings - was ready for use, the police spokesman said.

 

Jyllands-Posten, a best-selling newspaper, published 12 CARICATURES OF the PROPHET MUHAMMAD IN 2005 to accompany an editorial criticising self-censorship in the Danish media.

 

Their publication, which both broke an Islamic tenet banning the portrayal of his image and mocked him, sparked riots in many Muslim countries, causing several deaths.

 

 

Danish TV2 News: SEARCH FOR BOMBING SUSPECT'S FAMILY

 

The Belgian police are looking for the mother and sister of the presumed bomber. They might hold some pieces of the puzzle concerning the Hotel Joergensen bombing in Copenhagen last Friday. "They have disappeared into the thin air", Belgian police said. Recently, the bomber's mother and sister left their home in a hurry. Since then nobody has seen them. Everybody is looking for them right now. We do not know whether they are still in Belgium, or if they have left Belgium".

 

 

Chief superintendant Svend Foldager: The bomber Lors Dukayev (LD) met several people during the four days he was in Copenhagen - from last Tuesday until last Friday when the bomb went off. According to a witness, LD met some people at a nearby café - they spoke French together, and the Danish police has also been told that LD talked on a mobile phone on 9 September.

 

LD was constructing a letter bomb supposed to be sent to the Danish paper "Jyllands-Posten" which is an act of terrorism, but LD has not yet been charged accordingly.

Apparently, there was a decisive turning-point in bomber Lors Doukaiev's life in 2008. He gave up his beloved boxing for 20 months and announced that he would move to Germany.

Liège, Belgium: The bomber Lors Doukaiev shelved his beloved boxing sports for 20 months between March 2008 and November 2009.

 

In the same period, in May 2008, he and his fellow students were in Denmark. At the same time, there was a new row in relation to the Muhammad cartoons following the reprint of the controversial cartoons in & by all Danish newspapers in February 2008.

 

Monique Brunlet, a teacher at the school of architecture Saint-Luc in Liège, had a conversation with Lors Doukaiev in the Summer of 2008 concerning his plans for the future.

 

"He was an energetic student, and I was surprised that he dropped out", she says. "He said that he had got a job as a boxing trainer in Germany. We said that we found it sad", says Brunlet who was not told where in Germany Dukaiev was to be a boxing trainer.

 

According to Monique Brunlet, Lors Doukaiev was popular with his class mates, but he did not make close friends with any of them.

 

BAD MARKS

 

Formally, Doukaiev gave up his studies to become a architect early fall 2009, but in the entire study year of 2008/2009 he studied with so low energy that his marks were very poor / bad. Doukaiev's last great experience with his classmates / fellow students was the trip to Copenhagen in May 2008. During this trip Lors Dukaiev might have got the 2008 map of Copenhagen found in his possession by Danish police following his presumed preparation of an attack on the newspaper Jyllands-Posten - be it on individuals employed by Jyllands-Posten or on editorial offices in Copenhagen or in Aarhus.

 

In the spring of 2008 the row in relation to the Muhammad cartoons flared up again for real. There was a sound recording of a man - allegedly the al-Quaida leader Osama bin Laden who made it clear that his sympathizers in Europe had "some old scores to settle after the Danish Muhammad cartoons". In the middle of April 2008, the Danish Police Intelligence Service Pet issues a warning of an increased threat from terrorists who might come to Denmark from abroad. At the end of April, Danish embassies in Algier, Algeria and in Kabul, Afghanistan are closed and moved to more safe addresses following threats.

 

The Muhammad row in 2008 culminates with the terror attack on the Danish embassy in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad on 2 June, 2008 when 8 people are killed.

THE HISTORY OF THE BOMBER FROM THE DANISH HOTEL "HOTEL JOERGENSEN" IN COPENHAGEN

 

On Tuesday, 14 September 2010 it became clear that the one-legged bomber from Hotel Joergensen in Copenhagen is the 24-year-old Chechen LORS DOUKAIEV. According to the Danish police, his plan was to hit the newspaper, Jyllands-Posten that published and later reprinted 12 caricatures / cartoons of the prophet Muhammad. Here is the life story of the young man as a war victim in Chechnya, as one-legged boxer and as an architect student in Belgium and as a mysterious bomber in Copenhagen - told by the Danish newspaper "Berlingske Tidende".

 

Liege / Moscow / Copenhagen: The story of Lors Dukaiev - the bomber from Hotel Joergensen in Copenhagen - is a story full of war, violence, anger and sacrifice/privation.

At an age of only 3, Lors wanted to fight all adults as his father - an officer - was wounded and paralysed for life - becoming a paralytic. When he was 10 years old, he lost one leg as he stepped on a Russian mine in Grosnyj. And he cried his anger out in this way: "I want to kill the adults, mama".

 

Apparently, Lors Doukaiev still had this will to kill when he arrived in Copenhagen on Tuesday, 7 September 2010. 4 days later, he was the only victim of the explosion he caused at Hotel Joergensen in Copenhagen City.

 

Lors Doukaiev has seen a lot of hardslip in his life, but he has also met a wide range of people who offered him help, support and love.

 

In the ghetto quarter "Droixhe" in Liege in Belgium, the almost 2-m-tall former champion boxer Albert Syben runs a boxing club with the purpose of helping angry, young men. Here, Albert Syben - who is also a policeman - has trained Lors Doukaiev and other angry, young men for the last 5 years. Here, Lors Doukaiev found a father figure who had all the physical strength that his father did no longer possess. In the same way, Lors Doukaiev found a father figure in Norbert Nelles, the headmaster of the school of architecture Saint Luc. Here, Lors could achieve the academic ambitions of his mother, who is a doctor. But weither the boxers in Droixhe nor the cooperation with the creative classmates at the school of architecture could curb the anger felt by Lors Doukaiev.

Friday afternoon, Danish police announced that the purpose of Lors Doukaiev's trip to Copenhagen probably was the morning paper Jyllands-Posten, which published 12 cartoons of the prophet Muhammad in September 2005.

It is not known who convinced Lors Doukaiev that sending a letter bomb to a Danish newspaper would lead to a better world. But today much of Lors Doukaiev's experiences in his 24-year-old life is known:

 

GROSNYJ, CHEZNYA on 6 FEBRUARY, 1996:

The date appears from the hospital's case record / case sheet. This date transformed 10-year-old Lors Dokaiev's life. The war was an everyday occurrence to him. He was used to the sound of shots and explosions. He and his family (parents and one sister) lived in a block of flats/apartments in the northern part of the Chechen capital, Grosnyj. On 6 February, 1996 Lors went outside to play in the neighbourhood - as he used to. Suddenly there was an enormous explosion that could be heard all over the neighbourhood. The explosion injured the boy's body: The lower part of the boy's right leg was transformed to a bloody stump. Metal splinters ended in his body. All this appears from the hospital's case record which describes this accident as "injury after "explosion of a mine".

His mother, Kisa Doukaieva, has described it in this way: "Somebody had planted a mine where the children used to play, and my son stepped on it. I saw how they transported him away - quite blood-stained. He cried to me: "I will kill the adults, mama". My ten-year-old boy had lost his leg".

 

Kisa Doukaieva who worked as a doctor stayed with her son at the hospital for weeks. She feared the consequences - also the psychological ones - for her young boy. Already at the age of 3½, he had experienced that his father became seriously injured. He had become a very serious/grave and withdrawn (reserved) boy.

 

"Again and again I think that the worst is not the destroyed cities / towns, but the psychological consequences for our children", Kisa Doukaieva writes in the book: "Right to culture" published in 1999 by the Center for Chechen Culture.

 

COPENHAGEN ON 7 SEPTEMBER 2010

At 5:15am on Tuesday, 7 September Eurolines bus stops at Ingerslevsgade in Copenhagen. Lors Doukaiev is one of the passengers, but on Monday, 6 September he entered the bus in Luxembourg under a false name. He has probably come to Luxembourg by train from Liege in Belgium. The bus rode all night long and passed Hamburg on its way to Copenhagen.

Doukaiev has only bought a single ticket to the Danish capital, Copenhagen. He buys the ticket back to Belgium some days later at Eurolines' office in Copenhagen - the departure is Friday at 16:10 towards Paris - with the option of changing in Hamburg in order to get to Liege. But he does not state his true name. Nor has he booked any hotel, but chooses to stay at Hotel Joergensen at Israels Plads (Plads = Square) near Noerreport Station (Denmark's busiest railway station). At the hotel there are bunk beds in dormitories at 24 Euro per night. It is 6:30am, and he is tired. He sleeps at the reception desk for some hours.

 

AMAGER STRAND, COPENHAGEN IN MAY 2008

The Belgian students of architecture enjoyed the sun at Amager Strand, a beach area in Copenhagen. They had been transported by hired/rented bus from Liege in Belgium to Copenhagen in Denmark. They spent the night at a youth hostel.

They admired the modern landscape architecture on the east coast of East Amager and the view to Sweden. Several students took off their clothes including Lors Doukaiev who was otherwise known as a quite shy student.

"It was unusual to see him take off his clothes and remove his artificial leg. Suddenly he stood there - on one leg until he jumped into the water from the platform on which we were standing. He turned several somersaults before reaching the surface of the water," said Norbert Nelles, the headmaster of the school of architecture Saint Luc in Liege. Neither Nelles nor Doukaiev's fellow students recall Jylland-Posten's Muhammad cartoons being mentioned at any time.

 

NORWAY, DECEMBER 1996

LD and 20 other children damaged during the war(s) in Chechnya went to Norway where the children were treated in Norwegian hospitals. The children were out in the snow-covered Norwegian nature, and they visited the Norwegian parliament "Stortinget". According to Ljuba Krsjisjanovskaja who is a refugee from Chechnya and employed by the Russian relief organization "Childrens' Fund" in Moscow, the children met the Norwegian Prime Minister of that time, Thorbjörn Jagland. They celebrated Christmas, and they received presents from Father Christmas.

"It was a good trip. Like the other children, Lors D became more open. They received crayons, and he liked to make drawings, said Ljuba Krsjisjanovskaja.

 

In November 1996, Ljuba Krsjisjanovska met the young Lors Doukaiev for the first time. She came to Grosnyj to invite him and his mother to Norway together with other injured children and their parents. Far away from the war-ravaged Chechnya to the peaceful Norway.

She had a positive impression of the ten-year-old boy.

"He was a good boy, he was well-behaved and educated/formed. I felt that the mother was attentive. He was thoughtful and serious. There are children who just smile and are happy. He was not like that at all. He was very serious", she recalls.

According to Ljuba Krsjisjanovskaja, the father did no longer live with the mother or the children at that time. She spent many hours with Lors and his mother during the one-month-long stay in December 1996. After the trip the children returned to the same sad reality in Chechnya. When in 2004, Ljuba came to the family's apartment/flat in Grosnyj, they had gone. They was travelled to Western Europe.

 

COPENHAGEN ON FRIDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER 2010

Lors Doukaiev has been in Copenhagen for several days. It is Friday, 10 September before noon. The young man checks out of Hotel Joergensen in Copenhagen (on the corner of Roemersgade and Vendersgade), but he has been permitted to leave his luggage at the hotel. Noone at the hotel knows that he has left his handgun/pistol loaded with live cartridges in his bag.

He does not leave Copenhagen, but goes to a nearby post office (at Oester Allé, Oesterbro). He has already been at the post office once before. Wearing a soft sixpence cap, big sunglasses, neat trousers and a shirt - a quite different clothing style to the baggy trousers and hoodie he wears among the other young travellers at Hotel Joergensen - he bought some wide tape and a cardboard box for transporting CDs. Today he buys two envelopes - one with bubblewrap (bubble plastic) inside.

At 12:44 he comes back to Hotel Joergensen and immediately heads for the cellar and goes into one of the shared toilets. He has his rucksack with him - and all the things he needs for his purpose is in it. The CD box, the envelope with bubble plastic (bubblewrap), the rubber gloves he has bought in a nearby shop and a multi-tool with a pair of pliers and a jack-knife also bought during his stay in Copenhagen. He has also spare clothes with him - a shirt and a thin coat. And then the explosive.

For 38 minutes he keeps the door closed. At 13:23 something goes wrong. A bang is heard at the explosion. The toilet bowl is totally destroyed. Splinters from the explosion hit Lors Doukaiev everywhere in his face, on his neck and hands. The blood trickles out as he opens the door and runs out.

He leaves his rucksack and things at the toilet - also what is left of the explosives. He has a black waist (or belt) bag strapped around his waist as he leaves the hotel. At first he runs in the wrong direction. He turns around and runs back down some small steps through the living room with cafe tables and chairs. He was about to bump into several guests.

6 minutes later the police is alerted. Several witnesses have seen a young man run out of the hotel - others have seen him run into the Oerstedsparken - about 600m from Hotel Joergensen. At 15:38 he is arrested by a dog handler from Copenhagen Police.

He is forced down on his stomach on the wet gravelled path. With his hands on the back. Here the bomber is lying for hours.

The policemen fear that LD har more explosives in his waist bag, and therefore they dare not approach him. After some hours the Army's Ammunition Service manages to cut off the bag by means of remotely-controlled scissors, and "Rullemarie" - a bomb-handling robot - is called in. Immediately before 18:30 the robot shoots at the little black belt / waist bag - but nothing happens. The bag does not contain explosives. The explosives have destroyed Lors Doukaiev's mp3 player which he had in his belt / waist bag together with i.a. his Copenhagen touring map.

The policemen still do not dare take any chances, so when a doctor was allowed to examine the bomber at 20 o'clock, he was wearing a bomb(-proof) suit. A little quarter later the man is carried out of the park on a stretcher. Speculations are spreading as to the reason for the explosion in the hotel: Maybe it is a failed act of terrorism. At the same time Doukaiev is transported to the trauma center of Copenhagen's University Hospital "Rigshospitalet" by an ambulance with the sirens on and escorted by police. Not until 4 days later are the Danes to learn the true identity of the bomber.

 

LIEGE ON THURSDAY, 16 SEPTEMBER 2010

The Chechen grocer Yusuf Khitanaev receives us in his little shop in central Liege. Danish journalists are flocking to Liege since the disclosure of Lors Doukaiev's identy as the bomber from Copenhagen by the newspaper BT in the night between Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 September. Now they are lining up for an interview with the grocer who had a university degree in Russia. He is now a key figure in the little Chechen exiled society in the multi-ethnic Belgian industrial city. Khitanaev knows the Doukaiev family very well. He has often talked to both Lors and his mother Kisa Doukaieva.

"I am sure that Lors has not done what he was doing in Copenhagen for money. It is an ideological project", says Khitanaev and stresses that you must remember how Doukaiev practised his Muslim faith.

"He did not come in the mosque where the other Chechens including myself come. He has probably been a member of a minor group of young muslims who met in secret places. In such a circle there can easily have been a person who was not the person the others thought that he was", says Khitanaev who finds it difficult to believe that Jyllands-Posten's cartoons of the prophet Muhammad made Doukaiev travel to Copenhagen and equipment himself with a pistol and explosives.

The Chechen grocer suggests in other words that the Russian intelligence service may have infiltrated a group of young, angry extremists of which Doukaiev has been a part.

 

COPENHAGEN ON FRIDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2010

At a press conference in Copenhagen, Copenhagen Police announce that they are convinced that Lors Doukaiev planned to attack the morning paper "Jyllands-Posten". Danish police will not inform the public of the motive.
