Mix Tapes / Compilation CDs

Featured Replies

Ever make mixes? Post your favorite compilations here... or even create a compilation based on the rules I used for making mine...

I started making my own soundtracks to movies that dont exist...

I'd be interested to see what your mix-tapes would be like... Try this one...

"If My Life Were A Movie: The Drama"

What I do is set up a pattern for each mix. With the soundtracks, I arrange the tracks in order that they would be played in the movie, starting off with the Title Screen song, and the final scene / roll credits song... In this mix, I picked six artists, and two song by each artist... you can either use my guidelines, or make up your own...

1) Travis - Side

2) Doves - Far From Grace

3) Elbow - Powder Blue

4) Coldplay - The Scientist

5) Doves - Sea Song

6) Sigur Ros - Untitled Track 5

7) South - Between the Lines (Back Again)

8) Coldplay - We Never Change

9) Sigur Ros - Untitled Track 3

10) Elbow - Asleep in the Back (Bonus Track)

11) South - Paint the Silence

12) Travis - Driftwood

I've had "Dont Dream It's Over" stuck in my head all day... the Crowded House version though...

I like there version but I think the new one is better and more lively...and her voice fit's the song better if ya ask me.

I think they did a good job covering it, I'm not a fan of the band, but the song sounds really good... but I'm partial to the original, its a timeless song... In fact... I'm thinking about covering it... hah...

That would be awesome if you did! Give it a try someday! :)

It's been a while since I made a decent CD (ie. actually listening to each track's ending & feel and fitting it to the next track). I have one CD which I think I excelled in doing that (for personal use).

#1 Idlewild - You Held The World In Your Arms

#2 A Perfect Circle - Hollow

#3 Opeth - Benighted

#4 The Innocence Mission - Today

#5 Nirvana - Come As You Are

#6 Tatu - How Soon Is Now (The Smiths cover) [i actually don't really fancy this track anymore]

#7 Cracker - Low

#8 The White Stripes - Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

#9 The Strokes - Someday

#10 Supergrass - Grace

#11 The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So

#12 Black Lab - Keep Myself Awake

#13 Incubus - Are You In?

#14 Tear Garden - In Search of My Rose

#15 Royksopp - Remind Me

#16 Incubus - Warning

#17 Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful

#18 Death Cab for Cutie - A Movie Script Ending

#19 Coldplay - Clocks

#20 Our Lady Peace - Naveed (Live)

That's it. Whew, got tired of typing it all out. It was a compilation I really liked, even though now some of the songs bore me (Tatu cover, Supergrass).

Well, here's a repost of the original list I did:

I took Nemo's approach and did a soundtrack to my life if someone ever made a movie out of it. The basis is that they take creative license to make it a lot sadder and more Oscar-worthy than it is, although I kinda think it's great enough to... nevermind, here's my list:

""If My Life Were A Movie: The Tragedy"

1) South - Silver Sun

2) Mogwai - Dial: Revenge

3) Doves - Firesuite

4) Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over

5) Travis - Re-Offender

6) Tinkers Punishment - I Hope You're Right

7) Jeff Buckley - Eternal Life

8) Stereophonics - Jealousy

9) Jump, Little Children - Hang it on the Wall

10) South - Loosen Your Hold

11) Radiohead - Paranoid Android

12) Coldplay - Everything's Not Lost

for some reason, a lot of the songs on my soundtrack make me picture a car-ride scene with no dialogue, no sound, just the music and watching the car coast along the road as if it were almost floating... and I'm driving a late 60's blue lincoln town car... and also, there's no one else on the road.
