Richard Hawley

My threads about music artists have always had an incredible knack of sinking into oblivion very quickly, I mention this to gain your sympathy but not just for myself, but for you to enjoy an artist who is unique, interesting and attempts to be understated.

I have to say, this is exactly the kind of music I have never liked, it is what I would initially consider similar to an average Morrissey solo album, but I gave it a chance and I've been listening to Richard Hawley pretty much exclusively for over a week now. These songs are very simple, pure, pop songs but really couldn't have been arranged any better.

And plus, the first one is in a Banksy film, who doesn't like graffiti? Maybe some people, but however the 2nd song is in a Haagen Daz advert, who doesn't like ice cream?!

Nobody.

He reminds me of the better Morrissey solo moments. But he is incredibly unique. His voice is incredible and he is so underrated.

Morrissey of course comes to mind because the voice is similar, but I find the musical arrangements so much more interesting then Morrisey's solo work, that has never interested me. I've found myself liking Morrisey in little parts, and by that I literally mean parts of a song, like a lyric, a bridge, etc. But for the most part I've never liked his solo work because I think there is a lot of filler there.

But back to Hawley, really concise, simple songs and often don't have many lyrics but remain very powerful.

Richard Hawley is great. I especially love when he plays songs with his friend Jarvis Cocker:
