October 28, 201213 yr So I can play guitar and a few other instruments. I own a keyboard and don't completely know how to play. I can play Clocks with my right hand and SOS too. I just learned The Scientist with my right but it's hard. Can anyone offer advice for self teaching piano? I picked up a guitar and taught myself 2 years ago with minor help. What can I do to learn piano? Thanks.
October 28, 201213 yr I haven't played piano for awhile after ending piano lessons... I don't know how to teach piano but a few things my teacher taught me the past years.. She'd tell me to practice the right and left hand separately first to be familiar where the notes are. Then try playing both hands together after practicing it 4-5 times.. focus on a few lines of the song per week... She'd often told me to don't rush when playing/practicing and try not to stop even when you make a mistake.... Hope I helped a little..
October 28, 201213 yr Author Oh yes that helps! I'm trying to find my footing and haven't got the slightest idea where to start, thank you! :)
October 28, 201213 yr I taught/am teaching myself piano and I started with clocks, right hand too! :D Learn one hand at a time is what I find easier. Try learning some chords, start with the basics then move onto more difficult ones. I'm not brilliant but I'm learning a piano cover of HLH which is fairly fast! The scientist is easy once you get the hang of it. The trick is dont give up if you can't get the sound you want straight away! Sorry if that didn't help :\
October 28, 201213 yr Never give up. I'm self-taught for 4 years and I can read sheet music :D (I'm starting to learn rhythms though :P) Ifyou ever need help feel free to ask, and that goes for everyone :nice:
October 28, 201213 yr Author Okay...thanks everybody! I bought the keyboard last year for my birthday and I never really got into it. But now I want to learn how to play.
October 29, 201213 yr I suggest keep learning the Scientist. Once you have the right hand down, learn the left hand. The Left hand is just the chords you play on the right hand, unlike any other Coldplay song where it would be the bass notes.
October 29, 201213 yr Hey 86timewarp, I play keyboard (bout year and half) and I still can't read sheet music, well it's not that I can't rather than I don't know where to start? Can you help?
October 29, 201213 yr Indeed I can :awesome: If you know the names of the keys on the piano, C, D, E, etc. then it is not too hard. It just takes time and a lot of devotion :P. But it took me awhile because nobody wanted to teacher me  I recommend getting a keyboard that has the LCD screen with the music staffs on it. This way you can lean which note is which and what position/octave it's in. (This does matter if you're reading music, unless you're improvising or just fooling around )
October 29, 201213 yr Also if I dont reply for a while it's because Hurricane Sandy is at my doorstep :uhoh:
October 29, 201213 yr  I hope you're gonna be okay :( I know all my notes (C D E etc) and I have a screen but its not a fancy one or anything, so what is what? Hurricane Sandy please leave our planet!
October 29, 201213 yr LCD is just the name of the type of screen you have. It's nothing lol. A staff is the name of a bar of music while Clefs are the name of the "G" and Backward "C" looking symbols on music. The Treble Clef is top while the Bass Clef is on the bottom. The Treble Clef for piano is usually done via right hand, and the Bass Clef is usually done with left, however there are times you can play the Bass with your right as well :awesome: All music has atleast 1 staff with 1 clef. There are more interesting things about clefs such as clef changes during the middle of a song but thats for later  Here are the 2 Clefs and Also, note how there are number's following each note. Those numbers help identify each not on its octave. C3 is always called Middle C...I dont know why here it's call C4 though  And thanks :nice:
October 29, 201213 yr Okay, think I understand up to now, it when it looks like this: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=sheet+music+piano+coldplay&hl=en&client=safari&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=AQyPUObqEcqV0QXbooEg&ved=0CDcQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=672#biv=i|1;d|K7qcK_HZ6DyvdM: Sorry couldn't get picture up, I can play clocks but I look at this sheet and :uhoh2::sick::escaping2:
October 29, 201213 yr Yep :nice: And since you know all of Coldplay's songs, you dont need to learn rhythms and focus on the notes :sneaky:
October 30, 201213 yr Sorry I don't know the musical term but what does it mean when the notes are joined
October 30, 201213 yr If they are stacked vertically the notes make a "chord". Sorry I lost power and might not have it for 5 days :blank:
October 30, 201213 yr Cus of the hurricane? Thanks Ill have a go at some sheet music later, maths now :(
October 30, 201213 yr Hey! Maybe somebody have or know where I can find piano sheets of "Violet hill" or "Talk" ?

October 30, 201213 yr Yep  so my iPhone is like on 25% ATM so I have to limit myself. That sucks, is it near you? Are you scared? :( stay safe! So sheet music.... I'm still a little confused as to joined up notes
