C:Things can get very tense. But we’re not really fist-fighters. In most bands, the arguments always tend to involve the singer, and in this case I would get absolutely destroyed by at least two members of this band in a fistfight.

 

I:Wait, only two? Who’s the guy in the band you could take?

C:I’m pretty sure that me and Guy [berryman], our bass player, would have an equal match. But I would never even approach [drummer] Will [Champion] with my hands raised. It’s very good to be scared of your drummer, actually. I’m sure Bono’s scared of Larry. Wouldn’t Larry win that one? Oh my God, yeah.

 

 

I:Has success affected you much? Do you ever think, “OK, I’ve got to watch it, I’m becoming a spoiled jerk”?

Guy B:Oh yeah, definitely. [Laughs.] It’s funny, because when you’re on tour, from the beginning of the day to the end of the day you’re just working. And so during the day, sometimes you’re stressed or pissed off and you might snap at somebody. You asked for something and it doesn’t arrive within, like, five minutes. [Laughs.] You end up following people around apologizing a lot. “I’m really sorry. I’m so sorry.” But I guess it’s just stress, isn’t it?

 

I:Chris says when you guys are arguing, it never progresses to fistfights because there are two guys in the band he’s sure would pound him. When I asked him which bandmember he could handle in a fight, he said you.

Guy:Really? In a fistfight? Well, I guess I’ll have to go and batter him, won’t I?
