the neighbors upstairs at my old apartment used to play loud techno at 2 in the morning and hop up and down playing video games all night, right over my bedroom. :\

This is why living on the edge of a small village helps. The wall between our house and next door is pretty thick, so they can't hear any noise from this side and vice-versa.

 

Shame about the railway though
