On October 25th, two sisters from Alabama known as The Pierces will release a new EP, Love You More. It was produced by Guy Berryman [pictured] alongside Coldplay producer Rik Simpson, so Coldplay.com got in touch with Catherine from the band to find out a bit more. The Pierces are also offering Coldplay fans a free download of their To The Grave track, which you can get here.   Hello Catherine, how are you? I'm very well, thank you. We arrived in London two days ago and so far we are miraculou

Following yesterday's announcement that Coldplay and The Killers are to play a one-off gig at London's O2 Shepherds Bush Empire together in aid of the War Child charity on 18th February, Coldplay.com's batch of 200 tickets were depleted in only 120 seconds (give or take) shortly after 5pm (GMT) today. EMI, which was the first major label to move away from DRM-protected music, has reported significant increases in digital sales of some of its most popular titles since the move.   Since EMI removed DRM-protection from its catalogue, it has witnessed a 115% increase in digital sales of Coldplay’s album, Rush of Blood to the Head, and a 272% increase in digital sales of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.   The writing is on the wall for major record labels unless they downsize and move into new

NME, estranged followers of the Coldplay story, have labelled the band's second album 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' one of the darkest albums ever made in a feature on their website today.   Talking about the album, they describe the sophomore album as: "Featuring burning cities, wars and dead romance, Coldplay's second effort wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs."   However, it's not all doom and gloom. In their 'do's and don'ts list of second albums' they've packaged the album as a successful pro

Despite its faintly melodramatic title, The Guardian's list of 1000 albums to hear before you die isn't meant to be definitive, nor is it meant to be one of those Greatest Albums Of All Time lists. It's supposed to be more of a miscellany, an eclectic collection of interesting albums, (including Various Artists compilations, which usually don't get into those kind of lists).   In an attempt to get as wide a spread of music included as possible, all artists were limited to one entry each. Coldplay has replaced the Christmas song on their MySpace player with ‘Bigger Stronger’, which was the opening track on Coldplay’s first release for Parlophone, 1999’s ‘The Blue Room EP’.   This is the same recording of the song that appeared on the band’s self-financed demo ‘Safety EP’ in 1998.   More on this here

Coldplay are reportedly heading in a new direction with their fourth album - with a rocky edge to their music.   It seems frontman Chris Martin was so excited by their new sound that he got Embrace pal Danny McNamara to listen in. The musician, who penned the official World Cup 2006 anthem, told the Daily Star: "Chris gave me a sneak listen to some of the new tracks and they blew me away.   "They are very experimental and much more out-there than what you would expect - they are breathtaking.

Coldplay tracks 'Famous Old Painters' and 'Lukas', as well as an old track called 'Until The Water Flows Over' (better known as Solid Ground) have all surfaced online this week in MP3 instrumental format.   Famous Old Painters is a song written during sessions for Coldplay's fourth album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, but was ultimately left off the album. The song came about around October 2007 when it was introduced alongside Glass Of Water in Prospekt's journal on October 29, 200

Multi-platinum selling band Simple Plan recorded their version in Canada. On the other side of the world, young 11 year old guitar prodigy Yuto Miyazawa laid down his guitar solo in Tokyo, Japan. In Ireland, the lead singer from the critically acclaimed band Sweet Jane recorded her vocals at a Dublin studio. And somewhere in between—at Singapore's Ocean Butterflies Studio—over 40 artists from all over the globe did their part by recording an Asian themed version of Coldplay's "Fix You" to benefi

Just as he is on the football field, music aficionado Trevor Pryce could become a recording-industry...   Trevor Pryce's first music purchase was a Sesame Street record. More than 10,000 purchases later, the NFL star's nowhere near done. The former Broncos lineman has parlayed that fascination into the Outlook Music Company. The recording label launched by the 31-year-old in 1998 now boasts several bands - and might even have a hit on its hands from St. Louis indie rockers, Autovein.   The highe

More online reviews of Coldplay's video for 'Life In Technicolor ii' have surfaced, as well as new reviews of the new B-Side 'The Goldrush'. If you haven't heard Coldplay's newest track, Parlophone have not long ago added it to their YouTube channel. You can listen to it here.   Dougal Wilson, who has spent the last few years solidifying himself as one of London’s most interesting directors, recently released this video for Coldplay’s Life In Technicolor II. I know the puppet thing has been don

What makes a perfect festival anthem? A great, soul-stirring melody? A simple lyric that everyone can sing along with?   Or is it simply a question of timing – that glorious, unplannable collision of time and place, when a band catches a wave of mainstream exposure, and find themselves playing for a 50,000-strong crowd on the very day their album rockets to Number One? Whatever it is, some tracks never fail to spark utter mayhem when unleashed at festivals.   See Q's top five, including Coldplay

Tackling the States remains a huge slog. For many bands it still means a souldestroying two-year tour around the toilet bowls of middle America doing ten radio interviews a day with Oklahoma's answer to Simon Bates. The toil nearly broke Oasis, and has finished off many of a more fragile nature. Last week Lily Allen postponed the second leg of her American tour, complaining that the country was "boring".   However, for some lucky (or canny) bands, a possible shortcut to American success has eme
