Green Economy & Fair Trade Globe
I couldn't agree more! Prevention is the future (along with stem cell technology). Every American home already includes a dining room, so it should become fashionable to also have a gym room! I switched to eating whole grain bread two years ago, and I'm never going back to white bread. Just doing that one thing has made me feel healthier and gain weight (which I needed to do). As for stress, I think we should look to the Eastern cultures to see how to cope. Office buildings should have tall ceilings and be lit with as much natural light as possible - huge windows and skylights. Computer screens should be large so you can view them from a distance and still read easily. Public buildings should feature modern architecture and lots of lush landscaping, as it's been shown this helps calm people. I think if I were put in charge of the correctional facilities I'd play classical music for 2 hours every day over the jailhouse intercom - as dopey as it sounds, I firmly believe it stimulates the mind and could reduce inmate-on-inmate crime.

Green Economy & Fair Trade Globe
lol Chuck, I'm not sure I'd want my face on a gold coin as I'm no mercantile! Gold is a shiny, overvalued element useful only for its industrial applications, as far as I'm concerned. :D Lincoln and Roosevelt on coins? I rank them among our worst presidents, but that's a discussion for another thread (maybe). I think if you want to predict the future the best way to do it is to just "follow the money". Not enough effort has been put into understanding the result of getting energy independence. I'm not saying it's not a valuable goal, but consider for a moment how a solar-based economy would work. Energy output would be rather predictable (and if futures on solar power were traded, they wouldn't have a long-term upward trend because they would be based on near-term weather predictions). Also you've eliminated the terrorist/rogue state influences. So the supply/demand curve would become the key indicator here. It's quite possible a solar economy might undervalue energy because they view it as a "free" thing, and that would cause demand to go up to unnaturally high levels. I could foresee the government stepping in to ration electricity use or limit the purchase of land for solar farms. Property taxes might go up (which might not be a bad thing, as several economists have speculated that a land-tax is most equitable since there is a fixed amount of the stuff).

I see what you mean Mimi, I've seen that crap happen to my friends. I don't mean to be misogynist, though, because guys can be just as bad. They just exhibit their craptasticness in more varied and explicit ways than females do. In conclusion: value maturity in both sexes.

LIBERTY
Well this is another good point, and as I see it there's a huge conflict of interest between governments (in general) and the internet. That's why I don't believe in things like "Net Neutrality". The second you let government have ANY legislative authority over ISPs, you've opened a whole can of worms that they'll use in the distant future to censor the internet. Let the ISPs censor the internet themselves. If they do, people will get mad and demand they stop. If they don't stop, another ISP will pop up that allows full access to the internet, uncensored. It might be more expensive initially but I'd much rather pay for this than give the current batch of ISPs a government protected monopoly.

LIBERTY
This is EXACTLY the truth. Do you know how many people die each year on average in car accidents? Over 40,000. Not to make light of 9/11, but really... that's child's play compared to heart disease or any other causes of premature death. We elected a bunch of jackasses who ignore the 4th Amendment when writing new law. I guess we really shouldn't be surprised. They've been ignoring the 5th Amendment ever since the income tax was passed. Being forced to fill out and sign a 1040 gives the government a view of all your sources of income, and it can be used as incriminating evidence against you in a court of law. The 5th Amendment says you can't be made to testify against yourself.

Some probably are, but on the whole I think women are better at hiding stuff. ;) Or maybe they aren't, and men are just less perceptive/more trusting. I dunno. There are probably areas where women are better as partners... but I can't think of any right now :D Maybe a straight guy can help me out.

This Is So True... Right on Jay Leno
I love Jay Leno (so much so that I'm named after him ;) ) but I think there are legit reasons to complain, and they're not "entitlement" reasons. Frankly I think we've got too much entitlement here, which is part of the reason Obama's campaign is catching on. If you promise the people enough goodies, you're bound to be elected! I'm waiting for a presidential candidate who admits it's not his duty to see that our economy is perfect at all times. There's nothing in our constitution about that, but for some reason Americans think that's part of the job, and that fiddling with the economy is an extremely complex science that only a few Harvard grads can possibly understand!

Green Economy & Fair Trade Globe
Hmm, well as a citizen of the US, I hate all coinage. The dollar being so weak only makes them worth that much less. So I prefer to use plastic to pay for stuff. There's a certain psychological barrier to spending large amounts of money when you're using cash, however...

COMPLAINING HERE.
SATC is a disgustingly simple-minded parade of thinly veiled sexual references designed to give women an outlet for their carnal desires that, conveniently enough, isn't sex. It celebrates a lifestyle and personality-type that simply doesn't exist in the real world. As a result, women who watch SATC feel a sense of profound emptiness when they become introspective, because their own lives are far more boring than the TV show.

COMPLAINING HERE.
Well to her credit men ARE pretty undervalued in our society. If you're a man (especially if you have a beard) and you're in a public place and a child comes up to you who can't find his parents, then you better avoid that kid like the plague. Otherwise you might get accused of being a child molester or something. Women try too hard to be "manly", which baffles me. I think the Oprah lady is right, even if she comes across as a bit "uncle Tom" in her pickle jar reference. Then there's Sex and the City. Don't get me started on that travesty.
