  1. Josh, he had the power all along. The power of friendship. *everybody laughs and the strange purple alien/monster does something stupid/silly*
  2. They should drape a "Mission Accomplished" banner on the ship and have Obama give a speech on it. :P
  3. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9G7D7F80&show_article=1 "Virtually all" of the oil will be captured. Oh thank you, Obama! Your use of the word "ass" during an interview saved us!
  4. I think this was shown to be false.
  5. The treasure door is slowly coming down! Hurry up and grab all the money you can possibly carry!
  6. Well I think in both cases the implication is that the government can help. It clearly can't, whether it be a hurricane or an oil spill. We need to ditch this superstition that George Bush or Barack Obama can roll up their sleeves, and get things done: It's all an act! And I like the ideas, keep them coming. I think BP could build a massive cone to plant over the pipe area, with a heated-coil to keep the interior from freezing... also why aren't the other oil companies helping out? It's odd to me this hasn't been discussed. Are there cheap and efficient ways to separate the oil from the oceanwater without polluting? Those guys who were fisherman before the spill, could collect the oil and sell it back to BP!
  7. Not sure I understand why. Isn't man a part of nature? My whole point is that we need to quit this self-flagellation and actually offer ideas and help. BP is clearly negligent here, and they should be required to pay property damages. But this isn't any one person's fault. Pay attention to what's destructive criticism, and what's constructive criticism.
  8. And women should have their breasts cut off when they commit murders.
  9. The public's reaction to this is anything but rational. I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but very recently there was arguably an even worse environmental disaster: Yes, that volcano Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland. The whole discussion about this today seems to be implying BP did this on purpose. Or that if only Obama had more money and power, he could fix the problem. 1. It was an accident. Sometimes people you love die in car accidents. You don't go on a rampage and blame everything in sight. 2. Yes, we'd all love to have cars powered by sunshine and joy. At this point that's just not feasible. And no, shoveling more money into that particular area of research isn't going to help - scientists and inventors aren't slot machines. 3. Even a government as powerful as Nazi Germany's Third Reich couldn't plug this oil leak. So shut up about increasing taxes, and get a boat and go out there and scoop up some of that oil your own damn self.
  10. They are. Government can't protect you. They can only puff out their chest and pretend to be doing something. Imagine if this had been a terrorist bombing that killed all those people, and the terrorist came from Iran or Pakistan - the drums of war would be heard all over the news. Tragic event, though. :(
  11. I appreciate that McDonalds is doing this sort of thing. It just goes to show that businesses don't require a government to prod them into being liberal and inclusive. There's a common misconception here in the US that without certain laws (like the Civil Rights Act), businesses would turn away black customers in droves, or fire all their gay employees or whatever. This is just lunatic scaremongering. Government is never at the forefront of positive social change - it's always the last institution to be dragged kicking and screaming into it. And then it takes all the credit for positive social changes, teaching kids in schools that it is the reason there are no longer KKK rallies every week. But overall I think it would be better to see ads that have gay men existing incidentally - not as gay men, but just as people. On the other hand, since gay men only comprise probably 1% of the population (max), there's really no need to inundate media with them. That would just be patronizing and needlessly annoy social conservatives. EDIT: :laugh3:
  12. Well the alternative would have been that the oil is sucked up by BP, refined, delivered to gas stations, and then burned in our cars. Either way that stuff was going into the environment!
  13. :laugh3: Aww, ECB, what's wrong? Getting scared of that 1.20 mark? The intervention here is so blatant it's laughable.
  14. If there's anything worth chasing after... it's cheese.
  15. What a cow! She needs to lose about 40 pounds. Don't tell her I said that, though, it might hurt her feelings.
  16. "People don't think other people are all that great!" Basically. Start by improving yourself, then worry about whether other people are up to par.
  17. Unfortunately I think this sort of thing will only get worse as the government austerity cuts go deeper.
  18. Haha, that's actually a really good idea. He should just hire a couple of ghostwriters to brainstorm ideas and write the book for him, with the stipulation that they get a small % of whatever the revenue from the book is. And usually publishers are willing to provide a "forward" - a lump sum of money up-front to have advanced rights to a book. He should totally do it!
  19. That's sick. Who cares if he was gay or not, he was funneling taxpayer money to his boyfriend. This guy was dishonorable, and gay people should distance themselves from him, not back him up.
  20. Wonder why there aren't any cities in 'murka on there??
  21. This is all fine and dandy, but I wonder if there will be any changes that will make this sort of Debt:GDP ratio impossible in the future. The problem is government spending, which all politicians are guilty of using to get elected. Governments break spending records by claiming there is a special exception to be made for an emergency.
  22. Oh my god that beach is so crowded. I bet the water was more oily than the Gulf of Mexico is now.
  23. Darlene, it's the exact same over here in the states. It seems like governments everywhere are encouraging the media to claim we are in "recovery". http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/income/2010-05-24-income-shifts-from-private-sector_N.htm And here we see government employees are getting more money, while private workers are making less... I think it is almost time for a revolution again...
