  1. Two points: 1. My government already kidnaps, extorts, and cages people for doing things like possessing plant matter. And many other "offenses" with no victim! 2. I did commit a misdemeanor! Or at least that's what I was charged with. The only reason I wasn't beaten was because I complied with the men in costumes (do as we say and you won't be hurt). There really isn't an operative difference between governments - they are only threats of violence. To avoid the violence, just don't live in that country! Or just don't do that thing which garners a violent reaction from the government! It's quite simple. ;)
  2. I know, I was being sarcastic ;) Sometimes it's hard to tell, with how authoritarian people are these days.
  3. This is a pretty big deal because whoever helps the Hatians the hardest wins eternal life in Jesus's lap!
  4. Oh this is morbidly funny: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/31724.html I'm not sure if that's necessarily true or not, because Coakley ran a crappy campaign and she was running against Cosmo's "Sexiest Man Alive 1982" or whatever. But it's still sort of fun to think about.
  5. "The BOUQUET residence, lady of the house spea---FFFUUUUUUUU"
  6. I don't get what the big deal is. This is what any government will do to you (eventually) if you don't go along with what they say. EDIT: Agreed. Just follow the law, people! What's so difficult about that?
  7. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Initial-jobless-claims-apf-3027105474.html?x=0&.v=5 This is pretty funny, too. At what point are we allowed to stop calling this a "recovery"? Does unemployment have to hit 35%? And I'm saddened Obama won't get the healthcare bill he wanted. I was hoping we could just get this thing over with (like ripping a band-aid off quickly) but instead it's going to be a slow, painful slog toward a command economy. Bill's too busy dispensing his invaluable advice for Haiti right now. If anything, this should be a wakeup call for all the dolts who honestly expected Obama to be anything other than the status quo. This is Bush's 9th year in office.
  8. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1954960,00.html?xid=rss-topstories&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+time%2Ftopstories+%28TIME%3A+Top+Stories%295 The possibility that the US Government employed a terrorist isn't even considered. Because if you admit that a radical Islamic terrorist was inside the belly of the beast well after 9/11, you admit that government is incapable of protecting us. So the myth has to be kept up - this was a fluke, he was mentally unstable, if only we had passed legislation X we could have stopped him, etc. Or just brush it under the rug and forget about it.
  9. Are you kidding? Next thing you know, that baby will be lying in a dentist chair getting booze pumped into his mouth! Send the cavalry!
  10. Sometimes mergers don't always go as well as planned. Look at AOL/Time Warner for a good example.
  11. He was killed by a government employee, actually.
  12. David Cameron isn't promising me free candy? Sorry. Won't vote for him. Oh he's British. I have no vote to give him anyway.
  13. As far as I can tell the Muslims don't really hate Norway so much. Or Switzerland, for that matter. Yeah, it is strange they focus all their anger on the US and Israel. Can't imagine why. Guess it's all this freedum we got.
  14. Doug Casey (a financial analyst I trust) says to take out a mortgage on your house and use the cash to buy real physical gold. I wouldn't put it past our own government to make fake gold bars.
  15. Well keep in mind, they don't make money directly via talking. They make money by selling advertising AROUND their talking. So they are providing a service - attracting a large audience that businesses want to have access to. As for where I go for my news, I tend to go to drudgereport.com and Google News. And I will admit to you that I'm biased, but my bias is grounded in principle and logic - I'm against any form of coercion or aggression. So that tends to put me squarely opposite the government on every issue.
  16. Well I don't mind that Limbaugh and Olbermann make money from talking - more power to them. But they both spout lies and propaganda. On occasion they'll say something insightful and absolutely true, but then they will contradict themselves at a later date in order to criticize another person. Basically they've got no principles. One's a cheerleader for the left hand, and the other cheers for the right hand, but the hands belong to the same drunk husband who's beating his defenseless wife.
  17. Chris, you're adorkable. :D EDIT: Aaron and I agree you should let your hair grow longer, but you're handsome regardless.
  18. We've been in Iraq and Afghanistan now for so long, there's no excuse left. If our military hasn't had enough time, money, and people necessary to train the Iraqis and Afghanis how to use guns and defend themselves, they will never be able to. At this point, both wars are just welfare programs for people with ties to the military.
  19. Nick, I was just watching Fox News and they had Charles Krauthammer, Juan Williams, Mara Liason, and Bill Kristol talking about Haiti. Their recommendations? Juan said Haiti needs "a strong police presence", and Kristol and Krauthammer agreed the US needs to establish a permanent place for troops there to "maintain order". No mention of doctors.

  21. Imagine how much it would have helped those Haitians.
  22. Kiefer Sutherland wore a dress on Letterman because he lost a bet related to this game: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1saoxdrRYko]YouTube- David Letterman - Kiefer In a Dress[/ame]
