New-Age Vampires Stake Their Claim
I really quite like Vampire books, and am intrigued by the number which are now appearing for children. The Darren Shan series is ace, I've read the first 3 and thoroughly enjoyed them. The Justin Somper went down a storm with the kids at a local school when we took him along to talk to them. i've not had chance to read his book yet but it does sound quite appealing. My favourite adult vampire books tend to vary. I quite like reading Laurell K Hamilton, although her most recent one was at least a third sex, rather than following the vein of the previous books (no pun intended!). Kelley Armstrong is good, although she writes more about different sorts of supernatural women, rather than just vampires. The few Anne Rice I've read were interesting but I've only read 2 or 3. I've also got a book of short stories which I like dipping in and out of, its The Mammoth Book of Vampire Stories for Women

New-Age Vampires Stake Their Claim
Reviewed by Amanda Craig VAMPIRES ARE STALKING the charts after a rest in their tombs. With Stephanie Meyer’s debut novel, Twilight, poised for bestsellerdom with its chaste yet intensely erotic description of a teenager’s love-affair with a vampire, Darren Shan’s 12-volume Saga of Darren Shan — of which the latest volume is Sons of Destiny — racing to the big screen and Demons of the Ocean, part of Justin Somper’s Vampirates series one of the top-selling titles of 2005, vampires are suddenly the next big thing. Since Bram Stoker published Dracula in 1897, vampires have held the popular imagination. The vampire never dies, becoming increasingly complex and intriguing. More at TimesOnline

The Kids Stay In The Pictures
REVIEWED BY CHRISTOPHER SILVESTER THE SUNDANCE KIDS: How the Mavericks Took Back Hollywood by James Mottram James Mottram’s book could hardly be timelier. Though he delivered his manuscript long before Crash and Brokeback Mountain reaped the main Oscars earlier this month, both represent further victories for Hollywood’s new generation of art-house directors: the loosely defined group he calls the Sundance Kids. And while Brokeback’s director, Ang Lee, has operated within the studio system, and Crash’s writer-director, Paul Haggis, has come from television, their films’ subject matter and marketing, building on the critical success of last year’s Sideways, owe more to an indie than a studio sensibility. Of course, all the major Hollywood studios now have art-house divisions, while the tepid box-office performance of King Kong shows that the special-effects-driven blockbuster is in abeyance, if not in permanent decline. Will this prove to be just another flash in the pan or part of a more sustained phase of development in the history of Hollywood? “For the moment, whether they are indulged or merely tolerated, ambitious directors must seek shelter in the system,” argues Mottram. “But the storm clouds are gathering; as blockbusters head towards the $200m mark, making profit a thing of the past, something’s going to give.” A key factor in the success of the mavericks, as Mottram recognises, has been “the loyalty of Hollywood’s legion of actors”. DBC Pierre Takes Second Chance
Author DBC Pierre has spoken about his efforts to avoid what has become known as "second novel syndrome" as he wrote the follow-up to his debut, the Booker Prize-winning Vernon God Little. Ludmilla's Broken English, which was released earlier this month to mixed reviews, is set in England and a fictional state in the Caucuses, and centres on a pair of formerly conjoined twins who travel to meet a young woman they have seen on the internet. Pierre told BBC World Service's The Word programme that while he acknowledged there were high expectations of the book, he had not felt too much pressure. Read more at the BBC

New Archer book sales make real impression
JEFFREY Archer is back in the spotlight once more. The 65-year-old's first book since his prison experience, False Impression, is selling quickly and he is relishing being the focus of media attention. He said: "The press have been wonderful - and you can't have heard me say that very often. Very civilised and very decent - with the one exception." He declines to name that one exception and concentrates instead on sales of his latest book. He said: "It is selling very fast. Third reprint in four days, 120,000 hardbacks in England in four days. Never had that before." Rest of the story: http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/region_wide/2006/03/21/b8bc2620-6742-4357-8549-3ea88179ef68.lpf

The X-Files
- Brokeback Mountain
I probably didn't put my post across in the right way. I deliberately didn't use names because I don't want to appear to be having a go at any one person, I was generalising across a number of threads. I wanted to post something on the main board because I felt it was more appropriate that way and didn't want anyone to feel they were being picked on. If I thought anyone was stepping across the line, I would have PM'ed them personally. I've seen threads like this turn into slanging matches, and didn't want this one to head the same way. The discussion going on is quite cool, and I never knew some of the scientific info which I found completely fascinating. I think its ace when you've got films like this which you can enjoy for what they are, but which also provoke a debate into the issues surrounding them.- Brokeback Mountain

- Sundance Channel to air 'In The Sun'
anyone know where the Sundance channel airs? I'm going to have to show my ignorance!! I've heard of the Sundance festival but never clocked where they hold it!! I just picked the info up on Google. Didn't really pay any attention to what country the info is from. I figured it was a safe enough bet that someone on the forum would get the channel!- The Hardest Part Video is showing on Tuesday not Wednesday!
tee hee! the ticker changed as you did your screen print ;) sorry, that's very childish - Come on you Blues!!!!!
so? was still a interesting match to watch- The Hardest Part Video is showing on Tuesday not Wednesday!
they've not updated the little ad ticker thingie. Debs has updated the news article and the thread on the official board. Its tomorrow (Wed 22nd March) at 23:05.- Come on you Blues!!!!!
I knew I shouldn't have watched!! Was a good match though. First half was a bit boring, second half way more interesting. And another one of those nail-biting finishes where you can almost see them pulling off one of those City specials whereby they win the match in the last couple of minutes. I ended up hiding behind a cushion, it was so tense. Which wasn't helped by the commentator keep repwating "they scored later than this against Aston Villa"!!!- The X-Files
that's coz he's a closet X-Files fan!! :sneaky:- Brokeback Mountain
Woah! Calm it down a second. Debating's fine but take a second to look at the info in front of you. (Maldini, I'm going to make 2 major assumptions here, please correct me if you think I've got it wrong) Maldini's info says she's from Giza. In which case, you're talking to someone who isn't likely to have english as their first language, and who comes from a completely different culture to ours. When you're trying to explain yourself in another language, it quite often doesn't come across with the meaning or tine that you intend. Before you go accusing anyone of anything, why not take the time to try and discover her opinion. Immediately branding someone homophobic isn't likely to lead to further discussion.- Sundance Channel to air 'In The Sun'
