  1. the article's technically incorrect anyway. Gwyn's not ahead of the times. 9 years ago my mate was recommended she have guinness whilst pregnant, as she had previously had problems with anaemia, and it was one of the easiest natural ways of boosting her iron levels. I think she was allowed half a pint every so often.

  5. Coldplay Autographs for Charity Bid on some pieces of music history at the Rock 'n' Roll Auction & Concert Preview Party on Wednesday night at the Pageant. An announcement of upcoming concerts at UMB Bank Pavilion is a highlight of the annual event, at which music fans buy items autographed by some of their favorite artists. Proceeds benefit Kids Alive and Music Alive music programs at St. Cecilia Academy, Carlane Middle School Music Camp and Webster Community Music Schools. Guitars bearing the autographs of top stars are always big sellers, with the bidding usually starting about $1,500. Signed posters are also popular, and this year's selection will feature such artists as David Bowie, 50 Cent, the Allman Brothers, Coldplay and Elvis Costello. A Rolling Stones package includes a tour poster, set list, backstage pass and a photo of each Stone. A U2 package features similar items, but none of the U2 or Stones items are autographed. Billy Idol signed a wedding guest book ("White Wedding," get it?). Cedric the Entertainer signed copies of the two "Barbershop" DVDs. Personality Smash of KFTK (97.1) and KTVI-TV (Channel 2) will be the host, and Mark Howald of Ivey-Selkirk will be the auctioneer. Admission is $10 without an invitation. A silent auction begins at 5 p.m., followed by the concert announcements at 6:30 and the auction at 7. [More info about the auction can be found at the UMB Bank Pavilion.]
  6. Once again, production designer Pete Faragher has created a state-of-the-art set that reflects not only the geographical location of the awards broadcast but its stature as the most exciting night in Canadian music. "The production design of The 2006 JUNO Awards has been influenced by the wind, the ocean, the rocky coastline, lighthouses and the easy-going way of life in Atlantic Canada," said Faragher. For the first time ever on The JUNO Awards, a standing-room-only, general admission section of the arena will see fans surrounded by 125 feet of elevated walkways leading to a central pod in the middle of the arena. "The shape of this walkway is like the waterways that lead to the ocean," said Faragher. Fans in the audience of over 7,500 at the Halifax Metro Centre will be up close and personal with artists, award recipients and host Pamela Anderson as the walkways become an extension of the main stage leading to the centre pod. A total of seven JUNO Awards will be presented at the centre pod, including Artist of the Year, New Group of the Year (sponsored by FACTOR), Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year (sponsored by SOCAN), JUNO Fan Choice Award (presented by Doritos), Alternative Album of the Year and Album of the Year. Also at the centre pod, Coldplay's Chris Martin will introduce Bryan Adams, who will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the broadcast. Adams will perform one of his biggest hits from the main stage. Nine of the 11 acts featured in the broadcast are scheduled to perform from the main stage, including Bedouin Soundclash, Black Eyed Peas, Broken Social Scene, 2006 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Bryan Adams, Coldplay, Divine Brown, Hedley, Michael Bublé and Nickelback. Massari will perform from the walkways and centre pod while Buck 65 will perform from the arena floor surrounded by hundreds of enthusiastic fans. Source: CNW Group
  7. Following the news that Jennifer Aniston is to wed Vince Vaughan this summer, revelations have been exposed that the ceremony could be held at 43-acre Californian estate owned by none other than reigning queen of chat-show TV, Oprah Winfrey! The invitation is said to have been warmly welcomed by the new lovebirds, who are supposedly intent on outdoing Jen’s ex Brad in his controversial marriage to Angelina Jolie, a friend of the pair saying “Does she want to upstage her ex-husband Brad and his bride-to-be Angelina? You bet!” Co-stars Vince and Jen are planning to tie the knot in style, and are thrilled by plans to do it at such an unexpected destination. Should the couple decide to go ahead with recent plans, it will allow them to invite 500 of their personal friends and family, along with celebrity acquaintances, George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow and, of course, Jen’s former Friends co-stars, to name a few. Rumor also has it that Coldplay are favorite to perform at the reception! Well if your gonna do it, do it in style! Good on ya Jen! Source: Entertainmentwise
  8. The amazing success story surrounding the new Warner Bros. Records artist Daniel Powter -- who will release his self-titled debut album on April 11th -- keeps growing, thanks to the triumph of "Bad Day," the album's lead-off single. The piano-driven pop track is the best-selling single in the U.S. this week, claiming the Number One spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Already Certified Double Platinum by the RIAA, it is also the most digitally downloaded song on iTunes for the second week in a row, having sold 113,000 copies this week alone and 454,000 to date. In addition, the album, a blue-eyed soul-pop classic that Rolling Stone describes as a distillation of Powter's "love for old Motown records into sweetly groovy tunes laced with falsetto vocals and buoyed by a hefty backbeat," sits at Number Five on the Digital Album chart. The Vancouver native has enjoyed constant radio airplay ("Bad Day" is also Number One at Hot AC and Adult Top 40) and TV exposure. Fans of Fox's "American Idol" have heard "Bad Day" multiple times over the show's closing montage in past weeks. In addition the video, which has been in heavy rotation on VH1 as a "You Oughta Know, Artist on the Rise" clip, is being promoted on April 3rd to "Gung Ho" rotation, and will receive more than 50 plays a week. Powter's TV onslaught continues in April when the singer makes appearances on the "Today Show" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on April 14th, on "Live With Regis and Kelly" on April 18th, and on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on April 26th. MTV viewers will also get their first look of Powter performing live when he appears on "TRL" on April 6th at 3:30 p.m. EST. The excitement about Powter in America comes on the heels of his phenomenal year overseas, where he has already sold a total of one million albums. "Bad Day" was certified as the Number One Radio Airplay song in Europe in 2005, beating out the likes of Coldplay, U2, and James Blunt. He also topped the individual airplay charts for the year in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Australia, among others. Powter's debut album, which the artist has described as "keyboard music on steroids," was produced by Mitchell Froom, who is known for his work with Elvis Costello, Crowded House, and Randy Newman, as well as being co-produced by Vancouver's Jeff Dawson. American tour dates to support Daniel Powter are currently in the works. Source - Warner Bros Records

  10. not got any autographs as such. do have quite a few signed books, and have met a few celebs at work.
  11. Hugely intrigued, and am definitely going to have to watch it when it comes out. Was googling, and came across an article which described Blythe Danner as the "mother of actors Gwyneth and Jake Paltrow". Went a-searching on imdb.com because I didn't realise Gwyn had a brother, let alone one who acted, and not only does he act but he's written & directed a film (The Good Night) which Gwyn will be acting in
  12. Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre will present the wildest show in town from April 14th through May 11th as part of its special "Spring Break" engagement of Walt Disney Pictures' hilarious new computer-animated feature, "The Wild," it was announced today by Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. In addition to the film, live on stage before each show, moviegoers will have a chance to meet a colorful cast of exotic birds from around the world accompanied by their keepers from the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. "The Wild" follows an odd assortment of animals from the New York Zoo, who discover what a jungle the city can be when they hit the streets on a mission to save one of their own. An impressive vocal ensemble featuring Keifer Sutherland, Jim Belushi, Janeane Garofalo, Greg Cipes, William Shatner and Eddie Izzard, and Richard Kind lend their talents to the film's animal characters. As an added treat, Disney's Soda Fountain & Studio Store (located adjacent to the El Capitan Theatre) will be offering a special movie-themed delight called "The Wild Sundae." The sundae features crisp animal crackers grazing on a mountain of scrumptious vanilla fudge ice cream topped with homemade caramel sauce, freshly sliced bananas, and whipped cream, served in a colorful commemorative bowl. Commenting on the announcement, Breier said, "Moviegoers are in for a wildly entertaining time at the El Capitan with this special engagement of 'The Wild.' We always like to give our guests something extra, and a live stage show starring birds from the L.A. Zoo is the perfect complement to a film about exotic animated characters. Families and audiences of all ages are going to have lots of fun at the El Capitan, and 'The Wild' delivers many laughs and surprises. This the perfect spring break entertainment." "The Wild" is directed by Steve "Spaz" Williams, an Oscar®-nominated visual effects veteran ("The Mask"), who helped to pioneer CG character animation through his work at ILM on such films as "The Abyss," "Jurassic Park," and "Terminator 2: Judgement Day." He also directed the popular series of Blockbuster commercials featuring the computer-animated characters Carl the rabbit and Ray the guinea pig. "The Wild" was produced by Clint Goldman, the animation and visual effects producer on "The Mask," and a producer on the 1997 feature, "Spawn," as well as the Blockbuster commercials, and industry veteran Beau Flynn. Adding to the film's fun and entertainment is a spectacular score by multi-Oscar®-nominated composer Alan Silvestri ("Back to the Future," "Polar Express"), and a soundtrack filled with new and familiar tunes by such popular recording artists as Coldplay, Everlife, Lifehouse, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Former "Monty Python" member Eric Idle and fellow songwriter John Du Prez, the team responsible for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "Spamalot," wrote and performed the song, "Really Nice Day" for the film. 15. Ian put that article up.
  16. the other thing I'm very interested in is this supposed fax, which told them that they would get to meet Coldplay. surely, if you were hacked off you didn't meet Coldplay, and people on another site were telling you to be glad that you received the prize as stated in the rules, you'd quote from the fax to back your story up. if it were me and I had the technology to do so, I'd scan and post the fax for the world to see.
  17. I've had to put The Historian on side for one second. I got a proof copy of the next Jeffery Deaver, Cold Moon, from work this week. Its his new Lincoln Rhyme book, and so far its just as good as the others!
  18. Of course they've got to cover their backs. In this day and age, people will sue for anything. They have to ensure that they've made the competition as clear as possible. They've basically said that they reserve the right to use the footage or not. They need to do that, if they promise footage from the winners is going to be used but none of its any good then what do they do? They can't use footage which doesn't come up to a certain standard, otherwise the fans will then be complaining that they've been ripped off with a shoddy DVD. The only way for everyone to win in that situation is to include a disclaimer that they reserve the right not to use footage.
  19. Some of the other piccies
  20. Global TV Canada's Competition T&C There were a couple of points which interested me. So at no point is it definite that any of the footage will be used for the DVD, it is "possible inclusion". And reading through those rules, at no point does it say that you will meet Coldplay. So why did EMI suddenly mention that elsewhere (if they did, the only thing we have to go on is hearsay and I don't really fancy being done for libel!)? Its all very interesting.
  21. there are no guarantees that they will use the footage. its in the terms and conditions that you were supposed to read before you entered the comp. gonna go see if I can find the T&C link.
  22. they posted on the official board, and someone there told them to PM Debs.

  25. Illegal DVDs are ubiquitous. But they’re costing the film industry a fortune, reports David Rose It is late on Saturday afternoon and “Mai”, a young Chinese woman, has just walked into a crowded East London pub, carrying a supermarket carrier bag. She approaches the tables of drinkers with a knowing smile, offering them an open fan of multicoloured artwork in polythene wrapping. Emerging from her bag are dozens of pirate copies of the latest and future cinema releases, burned on to DVDs. “Three for ten pound, ” she announces, “or four pound each.” It is a scene now familiar in pubs, markets, workplaces and even school playgrounds across the country, with the titles covering all genres and tastes — from V for Vendetta to The Shaggy Dog. All come complete with printed sleeves brazenly bearing registered trademarks. This violation of copyright, as well as online file-sharing and home burning, is estimated to cost the UK audio-visual industry more than £800 million a year. The Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact), the antipiracy agency, states that one DVD sale in three involves a bootleg copy, making the British market the second worst affected by piracy in the world, after the United States. Behind the sales pitch of people like Mai is an organised criminal industry with its own production and distribution network. The discs are made by a London-based boss, she says, but she buys them from “friends” for £2.50, dividing any profits with another boss from southeast China, leaving Mai with around £1 from each sale. “Good week, I make 200 quid,” she smiles. She has been hawking pirate DVDs in Britain for three years, which means she could have made around £30,000 in untaxed income. She eventually hopes to return home with what she has saved. The British film industry is worried. A week after a series of dawn raids on Merseyside, the biggest single crackdown on counterfeiting and benefit fraud seen in Britain, Raymond Leinster, Fact’s director-general and a former policeman, explains the scale of the problem. “DVD piracy is the most lucrative crime that organised criminals are involved in,” he claims. Fact seized more than two million pirated discs from street sellers and markets last year, but this is less than 5 per cent of the total in circulation. The current focus is on catching those burning the discs. Rest of the story at Times Online
