  2. it only specifies ground travel. what do you reckon the odds are of them paying for a train, boat and more trains for me? :laugh3:

  4. no new blog today, but I have been checking out the blog links. This guy is out on the road with Green Day http://guitaretch.blogspot.com/ the whole roadie blog thing is fascinating me
  5. if you're talking about the 2009 marathon, I'm fairly sure he didn't run it. got an idea in my head that he had to pull out from injury
  6. pure coincidence, honest :D was just looking for random things they did in yellow!! yup, its a men's tee because the ladies came in "wishy washy yellow" and not "bright burn the boys retinas yellow" :D Sept could go either way, so prepare for hot & cold when you pack. if we have an indian summer, you could find your t-shirt is enough. I'm thinking of taking a hoody & a long-sleeved t-shirt, either one will go underneath the yellow shirt depending on the day's temperature.
  7. it is pretty awesome. I love the roadie name-dropping too!!
  8. Thursday, June 11, 2009 Travel Day to Des Moines Long, crappy day stuck on the bus. We pulled away from the venue in San Antonio last night a few minutes before 2am. I woke up around 8am, got dressed, and headed up front to hang out with Charlie. And that's how it was, all day long… We finally pulled up to the Renaissance Savery Hotel in downtown Des Moines at 6:45pm. Seventeen hours trapped on a 45-foot submarine. I couldn't get to my room and into the shower fast enough. As I was showering, I realized I hadn't had enough water to drink all day and was feeling pretty dehydrated, to the point of having a low-grade headache. Damn sure didn't feel like going out on a restaurant hunt, so I checked the room service menu, decided it looked more than sufficient, and headed down to the lobby bar. Had a really good glass of Penfold's Cabernet, and ordered a shrimp cocktail that was terrific. The next appetizer I got, though, was the bomb. It was a country fried tuna dish (I know – weird, right?). They took a tuna steak, coated it with Japanese panko (bread crumbs), and flash fried it. The tuna was rare, but warm, the panko coating light and tasty. It was served with a ginger-soy sauce and wasabi mayonnaise. Yummy! I was eventually joined by Piers (the band's chef), Minh (carpenter), Marguerite (production coordinator) and Tiffany (wardrobe). A glass or two of wine later, I headed up to my room. On a bum note, today marked the first day off city that I didn't go running. After 17 hours trapped on the bus, I just didn't feel like it. No guilt, no excuses, just wasn't gonna do it. Finally got in bed around 11:30… http://bd58.blogspot.com/2009/06/travel-day-to-des-moines.html
  9. and its also why some authors will only sign a book at a book signing if its dedicated to someone. they won't just sign their name.
  10. I've even snuck over to the SP site, and they have no thread for the show! so not even an sp fan experience :(
  11. Review: Coldplay doesn't disappoint BY KEVIN COFFEY WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER Coldplay didn't let down its fans Saturday night, even if frontman Chris Martin said he was nervous about it. Most in their teens and 20s, more than 11,000 people showed up at Qwest Center Omaha on Saturday night to see the Grammy-winning British quartet. Making stops all over the world, the group has been on its “Viva La Vida” tour since nearly a year ago. “I don't know why it's taken us so long to get to Nebraska. We must have been nervous,” frontman Chris Martin joked. “But on tonight's evidence, we have no reason to be nervous. You've been very warm and inviting. At least we rehearsed this concert 217 times before we brought it to Nebraska. I hope it is up to your expectations.” Looking like gray versions of the Beatles from the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,” the group took the stage wearing pseudo-military uniforms during the song “Life in Technicolor,” the opening track from their mega-popular 2008 album “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.” Saturday's concert was like an advertisement for the album. The group performed nearly every song from the album, and their clothes, guitars, drums, video screens and pianos were decorated with “Viva La Vida” logos and artwork. The group also worked in past hits, including “Yellow,” “Fix You” and “Clocks.” During their 2000 hit “Yellow,” yellow light flooded the arena while dozens of huge balloons full of confetti were tossed into the crowd. Martin ended the song by asking the crowd to give him a balloon, which he smashed with his guitar, showering himself in confetti. The group worked their stage setup into the performance throughout the show, with lights and lasers pulsating to the music, spherical video screens and — during the song “Lovers in Japan” — plenty of butterfly-shaped confetti. Martin got the crowd roaring at every opportunity. He asked for screams from fans, prompted them to sing along during “Fix You” and asked the crowd to get out their cell phones in the darkened arena. He also threw himself around the stage, dancing, bouncing and clapping. The band made an effort to reach out to fans in each corner of the arena. Some fans in the back of the arena got a special treat when the group exited the stage and headed to the opposite end of the room, where a small stage (just big enough for the foursome) was set up in the middle of the audience. To cheers, Martin sang, “If you want to make your audience go off with a boom, you gotta visit the people in the back of the room.” While on the tiny stage, the group performed “Green Eyes” and an acoustic cover of the Monkees' “I'm a Believer,” and drummer Will Champion sang “Death Will Never Conquer.” Exiting the concert, fans were handed a copy of “Left Right Left Right Left,” a nine-track live CD recorded earlier in the band's tour. The live CD can also be downloaded for free from the band's Web site. Opening the show was Australian band Howling Bells and Irish group Snow Patrol. Snow Patrol pulled off a rare feat for an opening band: They received a standing ovation when they left the stage. Fans screamed out the words to nearly every tune from Snow Patrol. Things got especially heated when the band played its 2006 hit “Chasing Cars,” which became popular after being featured on “Grey's Anatomy.” http://omaha.com/article/20090614/ENTERTAINMENT/706149918

  13. What an incredible show! Coldplay @ San Antonio on June 10, 2009 - What a memorable day! Amazing set list, great front man in Chris Martin (never thought this guy was so awesome, truly a rock star!) and an incredible audience (again, never expected San Antonions to be this wild!). They opened with 'Life in Technicolor' ended with 'Life in Technicolor' ...great choice! I got to watch all my Coldplay favorites live - 'Yellow', 'Clocks', 'Viva la vida', 'Fix you', 'Lovers in Japan', 'Lost'. Discovered few great Coldplay songs. Highlights of the concert: Starting the show with sparklers and then opening with Life is technicolor. Thunderous applause from the crowd. Huge yellow balloons flying all over the place for Yellow and audience finishing off the song Fix you and Viva la vida performances. Huge spherical TVs The band moving right across the arena and singing few songs in a mini stage set up among the audience Mobile phone wave at Chris' request. Audience response was amazing. Chris Martin, Chris Martin and more Chris Martin. The guy knows what a front man means. Supporting acts - Howling Bells and Snow Patrol too were good. Snow Patrol in specific rocked! I shot lot of videos. I will upload those videos in youtube and will post links here soon. If you ever get a chance to watch Coldplay live, go watch it. You'll never regret. Now that Coldplay is done, I will wait for the real legends - U2. October can't come soon enough. http://avoidconflict.blogspot.com/2009/06/what-incredible-show.html

  15. plus, if it had been released this May, he would have been busy touring with the band, and wouldn't have been able to go on a book signing tour :D I still think the one thing better than a roadie book is a signed roadie book :laugh3:
  16. Saturday, June 6, 2009 Show Day in Nashville The show tonight completed the only three-shows-in-a-row run we have during the tour. I'm glad to have it out of the way. It was also the first indoor show. We've been doing all outdoor shows until today. I'd rather do buildings, myself. The office rooms and bathrooms are better. I was standing just outside my office door about 8pm tonight, and looked up to see Faith Hill walking down the hallway (en route to the band's guest suite/friends & family room). She looked right at me, and SMILED REAL BIG. I smiled back, she said "Hi." I melted into the floor. She is one fine looking woman. She had a few other folks with her, including her husband, Tim McGraw. Dang… Roadie friends Angela and Jessica came out to visit tonight. They both live here in Nashvegas. My buddy Lance (from Tour Supply) and his lovely (and very pregnant) wife Tara also came to the show and to hang out. We've got the next two days off in New Orleans. A bunch of people are talking about taking a swamp tour, in a boat of course. Not sure I'm interested in that. I've seen plenty of critters in my life. Besides, if I see a snake, I'm likely to beat that sucker to death… http://bd58.blogspot.com/2009/06/show-day-in-nashville.html
  17. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 Day Off in Cincinnati We're staying at the Downtown Hilton (on 5th St.), right in the middle of everything fun to do in Cincinnati (that I know of). I got into my room around 2pm, changed, and went downstairs to the gym to run. Made it about 1.4 miles when a searing pain shot through my left knee. No idea what caused it, but after several attempts to continue the run, I gave up and got on a stationary bike. I had forgotten what a good workout you can get on a bike, and my knee didn't hurt at all from riding it. I had a mondo-ass river of sweat pouring off of me by the time I was done. It was fun! Later in the afternoon, I dragged a few of the crew guys to my fave Cinci watering hole, the Cadillac Ranch. There were 5 or 6 of us, and we stayed there for a few hours. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped and listened to a Brazilian pop band playing outside at some sort of fund-raiser. They were really good. I wanted to hear "The Girl From Ipanema," but they never got around to playing it. (Someone later told me they played it right after I left – damn!) As we were leaving, we ran into another group of folks who were on their way to Rock Bottom Brewery. I jumped in with that crowd for a bit. They were all eating, but I just had a couple of beers. I was back in my room by 11… http://bd58.blogspot.com/2009/06/day-off-in-cincinnati.html
