I read this on a forum: Turns out, she was not 'released,' she was reassigned...confined to her home for the next 40 days, with electronic monitoring. She was credited for five days (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) with the remaining 40 days being served as a home confinement. The sheriff's department says that there was some medical issue that played into the decision, along with what her crime was (parole violation for a suspended license), and he also hinted that the media/photo/attention component also complicated things greatly and played into the decision - all for which they deemed that her serving the remainder at home would be suitable. He said the decision has to be rooted in what they're doing, NOT what the public would think. He said the privacy issues related to medical matters mean they cannot discuss it, with reporters badgering the sheriff's department rep about it. Either way, even had she been released, I wouldn't berate her or her fans about it. They didn't make the call here. The LA county sheriff's department and medical advisers did. They deemed that justice, all things considered, could be served in a means different than what was originally decided. Paris Hilton is not the first, nor the last person, celebrity or not, to be dealt with this way from a small jail sentence, for what it's worth...this is not really an injustice here.
