I think you will find some philosophical songs on the new album "X & Y", including "A Message" and "Swallowed in the Sea". I'm a philosophy major in college, and that's one of my favorite aspects of Coldplay too.

Ok this is funny...I borrowed The Singles 86>98 from a friend, and I realized that I've been a fan of the song It's No Good pretty much since it was released. I remember hearing it on the radio when it came out, but I thought the DJ said it was by a band called Ultra. Now I realize it was on the DM album Ultra. What a weird experience. That just happened last night.

Thanks. When I first listened to Violator I didn't like it, but i guess I just wasn't in the mood or something because I listened to it again a few days ago and it's pretty awesome. Now I'm looking for some more, so I'll get one of those.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you need to realize that there are no bands today who are not influenced by other bands. Just as Coldplay was influenced by U2, Radiohead and others, so was U2 influenced by Patti Smith, the Ramones and others. And on and on back to the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Coldplay, in turn, has influenced bands like Keane. No sound these days is completely original, because all bands owe credit to rock and roll's history. While Coldplay may not intentionally say to themselves, "Let's make a song that sounds like U2," even they will even admit that they are fans of U2, and the influence of U2 on Coldplay and other bands is very apparent. I'm not saying at all that Coldplay is unoriginal (they are original, which is why they are so successful), but you can't deny where they came from.
