Don't think in a too difficult way :) Just grab when it's night your guitar, play for example an E chord, and try something with it. Don't think about it, just do. Don't think this is too less, this is worse etc. Just be happy, it's the first time, so you can grow. Your teacher can give you tips etc :) You will learn ! Don't think you're inmediately jimi hendrix, he wasn't also that good he now is in the beginning ! :D
