  4. http://news.msn.com/world/ukraine-says-rebels-shoot-down-malaysian-airliner-295-dead From MSN News: Ukraine says rebels shoot down Malaysian airliner, 295 dead Reuters: Maxim Zmeyev Emergencies Ministry members work at the site of a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 plane crash in the settlement of Grabovo in the Donetsk region, July 17, 2014. The Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian militants on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard, a Ukrainian interior ministry official said. 7 min ago By Anton Zverev of Reuters share email GRABOVO, Ukraine, July 17 (Reuters) - A Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian militants on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard, a Ukrainian interior ministry official said. Raising the stakes in the East-West showdown between Kiev and Moscow, the official blamed "terrorists" using a ground-to-air missile and Ukraine's prime minister called the downing of the flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur a "catastrophe". Related: Burning wreckage, bodies scattered after airliner crashes in Ukraine Official: Malaysian Plane Shot Down Over Ukraine 1 hr ago Duration: 0:31 Views: 8k A Reuters correspondent saw burning wreckage and bodies on the ground at the village of Grabovo, about 40 km (25 miles) from the Russian border in an area where pro-Russian rebels have been active and have claimed to have shot down other aircraft. The Boeing 777 came down near the city of Donetsk, stronghold of pro-Russian rebels, interior ministry official Anton Gerashchenko said on Facebook, adding it was "shot down with a Buk anti-aircraft system by terrorists" - the term the Kiev government uses for militants seeking to unite eastern Ukraine with Russia. The dead were 280 passengers and 15 crew. Malaysia Airlines said on its Twitter feed it had lost contact with its flight MH-17 from Amsterdam. "The last known position was over Ukrainian air space," it said. A rebel leader said Ukrainian forces shot the airliner down. Ukrainian official said their military was not involved. Interfax-Ukraine quoted another Ukrainian official as saying the plane disappeared from radar when it was flying at 10,000 metres (33,000 feet), a typical cruising altitude for airliners. Ukraine has accused Russia of taking an active role in the four-month-old conflict in recent days and accused it earlier on Thursday of shooting down a Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jet - an accusation that Moscow denied. The military commander of the rebels, a Russian named Igor Strelkov, had written on his social media page shortly before the report of the airliner being downed that his forces had brought down an Antonov An-26 in the same area. It is a turboprop transport plane of a type used by Ukraine's forces. (Writing by Alastair Macdonald; Editing by Peter Millership) This is a breaking story. Please check back for updates.

Magic Video Snubbed from MTV Video Music Awards - Jesus, They are like an abacus when trying to calculate what a good music video is, so out of touch - Just my opinion From Mashable: http://mashable.com/2014/07/17/mtv-vma-nominations-snubs-snubbed-videos/ 10 Stunning Music Videos Ignored for MTV VMA Nominations A man kisses his dying wife in A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's Say Something music video.Video: YouTube, AGreatBigWorldVEVO By Brian Anthony Hernandez1 hour ago Awards season is upon us, which means it's time to complain about amazing things that voters overlooked. Today in snubs, we're looking at the MTV Video Music Awards. This year's ballots were inundated with impressive music videos, especially in the Best Rock category, where we saw Coldplay's black-and-white "Magic" and Panic! at the Disco's beautifully morbid "This Is Gospel" both fail to earn nominations. See also: MTV VMA Nominations: Beyonce Leads With 8 for 3 Different Videos Even VMA favorites were ignored. Britney Spears' shark-infested "Work B**ch" and Christina Aguilera's emotional "Say Something" collaboration with A Great Big World sunk. And cue silence because nowhere to be seen is Lady Gaga's elaborately artsy "Applause." Disclaimer: MTV chose me to cast a nominations ballot. Each voter picked five videos for each category. These are some of the videos I selected that didn't earn nominations. 1. 6. THIS IS NOT A SPOILER! I REPEAT THIS IS NOT SPOILER - just a fan theory From Buzzfeed http://www.buzzfeed.com/jennaguillaume/this-game-of-thrones-fan-theory-will-blow-your-mind This "Game Of Thrones" Fan Theory Will Blow Your Mind Who is REALLY Jon Snow’s mother? This changes everything. posted on July 16, 2014, at 9:55 p.m. Jenna Guillaume BuzzFeed Staff Note: This is only a theory, so there’s no spoilers for the actual show or books. But if you’re really allergic to any hint of a spoiler then maybe proceed with caution. So, you know Jon Snow? Commonly referred to as “Ned Stark’s bastard”. No idea who his mother is. HBO Poor Jon Snow. Turns out the secret of who his mother is could actually be very significant. HBO LOL THANKS NED. HBO In fact, guessing the identity of Jon Snow’s mother was actually the test George R. R. Martin gave David Benioff and D. B. Weiss when they asked if they could adapt his books into a show. Tim Whitby / Getty Images (They guessed right, obviously). Many fans believe the answer they gave was Lyanna Stark, Ned’s sister. HBO But before you freak out that this is another Jaime/Cersei situation, don’t worry - the theory goes that Ned is not actually Jon’s father, and that Rhaegar Targaryen is. HBO Remember, Rhaegar was the one who kidnapped Lyanna, causing her fiancé Robert Baratheon to go to war, kill Rhaegar and become king. HBO Lyanna died in the meantime, and Ned went home to Winterfell, after fighting alongside Robert, with a dead sister and a new baby. HBO Surprise! A baby who, according to the theory, he claimed as his own bastard to protect him from Robert and the Lannisters, who were killing Targaryens left and right. HBO Watch this video by YouTuber Alt Shift X for an amazing rundown of all the evidence for this theory, as well as the potential implications. Woah. HBO

  13. http://community.ew.com/2014/07/16/the-top-5-moments-of-derek-season-1/ From Entertainment Weekly: check out #2 Top 5 moments of 'Derek,' season 1 by Bill Tucker, Community Contributor @BillTuckerTSP Jul 16, 2014 | 9:00AM Season 1 of Derek is an unexpected joy. Full of excellent performances, deft writing and the ability to tug heart strings without being corny or cheesy, Derek is a rare breed. Over the course of seven episodes, we’ve laughed, wept and cheered the kindest caretaker ever to grace a retirement home. Here are the top five moments from the first season of an exceptional program: Related 'Derek' trailer: Ricky Gervais says 'be nice to animals' -- VIDEO Orange Is the New Black recap: Power Struggles Russell Crowe and Ricky Gervais live-tweeted their drunken evening together 5) Mr Fucking T (Episode 4): Dougie has a number of “attack the asshole” moments, but this is the best. After Shelly, a cold-hearted wench, takes back her mother’s ring (which she gave to Tom), Dougie tells her off in wonderfully satisfying fashion. Rather than a slew of curses, Dougie confronts her awfulness and forces her to face it. She didn’t care, she has the ring, now beat it. One of the best lines in the series tops it off and adds a needed laugh to an otherwise brutal episode. 4) The Headbutt (Episode 1): We witness Hannah’s sisterly protection of Derek multiple times throughout the series, but her Charles Bronson–style headbutt in the pilot is the best. While sharing a pint with Derek at his favorite pub, a trio of tramps start making mean comments. Derek innocently asks Hannah what he’s done wrong and after she leads him out of sight, she goes back to the ringleader and delivers the knockout blow. The music cues and timing are perfect, as is Hannah’s assurance to Derek that the ugly chick is sorry. Oh, I’m sure she is. GET EW ON YOUR TABLET: Subscribe today and get instant access! 3) Kev’s Crab Painting (Episode 5): Destined for the list due to its pure absurdity, Kev’s painting of crude words on the backs of beach crabs is wonderfully strange. Forget swimming, tanning and building sandcastles. Kev’s idea of seashore fun is drawing curse words on crustaceans. Dougie is constantly challenging Kev’s disgusting behavior, but here he simply sighs and admires Kev’s handiwork. Dougie decides to let go for once, and we get a fun moment of juvenile ridiculousness. 2) The Reunion (Episode 7): The culmination of everything good and pure about Derek, the forgiveness of his long-absent dad is powerful, emotional and poignant. After an episode of Derek’s refusal to reunite, he gives in to his bottomless capacity for kindness, creating the ultimate expression of the show’s central theme. Mixed with a perfectly timed Coldplay song and phenomenal shot direction, the finale of Derek is one for the ages. And now, before we get to the best moment of Derek, season 1, here are some Honorable Mentions: Blood Sausage (Episode 4): Kev has dozens of quotable moments, but his description of his penis as eight ounces of “purrrre blood sausage” is the funniest and creepiest. Why this isn’t a meme or a Twitter hashtag is beyond me. Furry Friends (Episode 2): When the local animal shelter brings some puppy love to the day room, it’s a sweet affirmation of an animal’s ability to holistically heal. Since I come from a family of animal lovers, volunteers and vets, this is a personal favorite. The Final Kev Confessional (Episode 7): As the most irredeemable of the nursing-home crew, Kev’s final breakdown exposes his inner struggle. His understanding of Derek’s most important gift is the whole point of the series. It’s always better to be kind. Hamster on a Piano (Episode 1): Yep. That’s now in your head. You’re welcome. And the best moment of the first season of Derek is: 1) Joan’s Passing (Episode 1): In a very tight race for the number-one spot, Joan’s death is the moment we realize, as an audience, Derek isn’t just a fun, quirky comedy. It’s going to be emotionally honest and, at times, heartbreaking. When Derek learns of his favorite person’s passing, his uncontrollable tears and symbolic pat of the head are masterfully acted, written and directed. The moment is also constantly referred to, and serves as a launch pad for seven episodes of laughter, tears, love and forgiveness. Joan always told Derek that it’s better to be kind than to be clever, and that central theme is the soul of the series. It’s a sentiment we can all learn from and aspire to. The second-season recaps begin next week. Until then, always try to #BeLikeDerek.
