Special Coldplay Announcement on Zane Lowe - Brixton Gig 7PM|Listen Live|Blog Photos
"Roadie #42 reports from Brixton" Do you think this is Miller writing as for the X & Y tour. BTW Just finished listening to the whole gig again. Awesome! Some good reviews from the UK broadsheets. I suspect the 4s (and one 3) mostly reflect their predjudices and we can safely assume they mean 5! (My predjudice?) "Coldplay have a strength of character – friendly, excitable, charming and passionate – that success cannot erase." Praise indeed from a Coldplay disser!

All the world music media is against Coldplay
No it's not! Some amazingly positive articles, interviews and reviews. All can be found on this forum. Andy Gill (Independent): 'Why I hate Coldplay'
Plagiarized!! In an interview this week Chris said that they (Coldplay) had plagiarized themselves for their third album. Has Andy Gill taken advice from our outspoken friend? Andy Gill 3 June 2005 - Independent review of X&Y ......they wield the same oceanic sense of unease and uplift as Pink Floyd - a clear indication of their business ambitions, even though there's no hint of the Floyd's questing artistic temperament. Tracks such as "Talk", "Fix You" and "A Message" are vaguely similar, songs of solace articulating broad misgivings: "I'm scared about the future and I want to talk to you"; "When you feel so tired and you can't sleep/ Stuck in reverse", etc, resolved in platitudes like "I will try to fix you" and "You don't have to be alone". There's no grappling with the social or political causes of the problems, just a bland emotional poultice. Martin offers a consoling arm round the shoulder and a nice cup of tea. Andy Gill 11 June 2008 - Independent article “Why I hate Coldplay” Another obvious comparison would be with Pink Floyd: they evoke much the same oceanic sense of unease and uplift, and employ the same type of widescreen arrangements, though as with their Radiohead influence, there's little hint that Coldplay share the Floyd's questing artistic temperament. ..."I'm scared about the future and I want to talk to you", "When you feel so tired and you can't sleep/Stuck in reverse", etc – invariably resolved in mealy-mouthed platitudes like "I will try to fix you" and "You don't have to be alone" There's no real sense of grappling with the social or political causes of the problems, just a bland emotional poultice applied to the wound. Instead, Chris Martin offers a consoling arm around the shoulder and a nice cup of tea. Where would we be without electronic file storage and copy and paste? Andy Gill!!! Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear!! Pompous, mawkish, and unbearably smug, Andy Gill has once again regaled the music press with the lexical equivalent of a bloated watermelon, argues Coldplay aficionado. And in the process, he's poisoned an entire generation of British music critics. I suppose he has to make his money and generate interest somehow - though he'll probably have to wait at least another 3 years or so to do the same! Have you re-read his article on X&Y from early June 2005? Interestingly he has used some identical phrases - please don't tell me he works to a formula, reusing stock words/phrases (a comment bank perhaps?). And are they really his own words? Perhaps next time he should attempt some originality and creativity by enlisting the help of an Eno-equivalent producer of music journalism. Quote from X&Y Review - Andy Gill - 3 June 2005 “ Where a group like Radiohead seem to bristle at being asked to repeat themselves, Coldplay here show themselves to be almost as one-dimensional as Oasis, plugging away at the same old themes in the same old manner (my emphases).” ..mmmmmmmm!

Anyone see coldplay live when they werent famous?
The Muse support tour was in 2000. I saw them at L2, Liverpool, 30 May 2000. Muse were amazing. Coldplay were better! I also saw them at Telford's Warehouse in Chester, UK, on 1st or 2nd July 1999 - can't remember the exact date. This gig is not listed in any gigography that I can find. I know they also played at Fibbers, York on 30th June 1999.

Corporate sponsorship of music albums
Good article here about the Hands management style. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml;jsessionid=PJYVKISYXBACHQFIQMGSFFOAVCBQWIV0?xml=/opinion/2008/01/16/do1605.xml "Oh yes, that's his other brainwave. He wants to open up new revenue lines through corporate sponsorship and branding. Hmm. Coldplay posing in Barclaycard T-shirts on their next album cover? I would like to be at the meeting where Hands proposes that." I would also love to be at that meeting!
