I'm pretty sure most of X&Y joins Parachutes in the "we don't really like this" catagory as far as the band members are concerned.

Heck, Radiohead has more or less disowned the bulk of their first 3 albums these days. A lot of bands have material in their catalog they have negative feelings towards. They wrote the Parachutes material in their late teens/very early twenties and they're in their mid thirties now. People change a great deal over that span of time. I know a lot of fans adore Parachutes, but it's also clear none of the band members consider it their best work.

I'm sure they're not losing money, they're probably just not making nearly as much as they could be. People tend to think that because of ticket prices and gross receipts major tours make a lot more profit than is usually actually the case, and Coldplay have always been a "bleeding edge" band in terms of live production-and that costs.

Jonny's not so good with the numbers (especially for someone who studied maths). There was an interview during Viva where he said he used 4-5 guitars a night, when he was actually playing a minimum of 8.

Some of those are costs to the promoter, as opposed to the production.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3 million US (gross receipts). It probably is feasible, but it would make their profit margin per show razor thin. (which isn't that unusual for a cutting edge stadium tour, U2 360 would've lost money despite huge receipts without corporate sponsorship for example.)

That's still way off from 400,000 pounds. By current exchange rates, you'd be off by a couple hundred thousand dollars US. The 600,000 figure might have a slight chance of being feasible on the low end, but it'd be a stretch.

I'd love to talk to either Jonny or Guy about their gear in depth, so yeah.

You'd be surprised. I've worked around the touring industry a lot (for both music and theatre, and believe it or not, a tiny bit of Circus) and people can and do get into the game from just about any walk of life at all sorts of ages. This is particularly true if you have some sort of skill (accounting, IT etc.) where it's harder to find people with expertise willing to go on the road. Also, forgive me if I'm out of line, but assuming your listed Twitter is your birth year, you're not that old.

Over the years, there have been quite a few stories of members of the band, and people in their inner circle (ie. wives) responding to general fan weirdness with uncommon graciousness, so I'd imagine they get it. Still, some of the ahm...sillyness that goes on her is probably best unseen by anyone remotely connected to the band.:laugh3:

It said he "checks out" the site, and is aware of it, not that he "reads" it in detail. As I said during that conversation, I doubt very much that he reads through all these threads.

I've seen that figure reported a couple places, but that's all probably as a result of this qoute. Nonetheless, it should be noted that that number is used in conjunction with the stadium gigs, which use significantly more bands than the arena ones.

IDK, it's only natural they'd like some songs more than others, so I don't see why that should preclude the possiblity that they'd hate a few of them. Will, for instance, has said openly on more than one occasion that he's not overly fond of most of Parachutes.

Honestly, I think Ireland would have more of a chance than Scotland, but I wouldn't hold my breath for either.:\ I guess if you count T, they have been to Scotland twice this tour, but still it's a bit odd, especially since they do have a proud Scottish band member.

The other Guy thread has degenerated into a perpetual loop of shirtless Guy, and that's not enough!?:P

I can't imagine they'd come back to the UK this tour. Aside from Scotland, they've played such huge gigs in most of the major markets that I'd imagine they've probably tapped out the live market for awhile, and I don't see them bringing everything back just to do Scotland (and maybe Ireland). If they can indeed sustain more UK gigs in the immediate future, I'll be very surprised.

They can, but it's never a good sign when this much time passes between rumblings of dates and confirmation. The longer the gap, the less likely the rumors will ever come to anything, but that doesn't mean they won't. Like I said, I really do hope everyone who wants to gets a chance to see them, I just have doubts.

I normally wouldn't, it's just that I've got nothing better to do right now than hang out here, so I might as well post.;)

Shiver seems to be one of those songs where the band has said some of them like it and some of them don't, so not sure if it will be back much. I'm thinking Will and Guy are in the anti-shiver camp, as Jonny and Chris have played shiver by themselves sometimes (crisis gigs, South America 2007), and Guy seemed noticably irritated when they played it last year at festivals. At T in the Park, Chris even whispered something to him and shrugged before they played it.

Regular glow in the dark pant, work's in the dark as opposed to any sort of light. It will glow, but usually fairly weakly, and it's not going to have the fluorescent glow like the Coldplay stuff. That kind of glow is only attainable as the result of reactive paint or other agents under some sort of UV light.

US charts aren't like charts for everwhere else. They're broken down by format, with it being relatively hard to enter the Hot 100 (and even harder to place high). Given that MX's early singles have already gone through they're cycle of radio play, peaked, and are over with now, and the fact that CB and PoC weren't released as widely or in as many formats, it's not unusual at all. PoC did peak on the hot 100 at #20, which is fairly impressive given the parameters of it's release. PoC, wasn't released to Rock, Alternative, or Triple A formats, which all (especially triple A) have been strong formats for the Band. It did reach #24 on the Pop charts (and to my knowledge is still there somewhere.) Coldplay have never been as hot a singles band in North America as they have elsewhere (though worldwide their singles sucess is quite low for a band of their overall commercial achievement.)
