  1. fakfak replied to Pris's topic in Coldplay
I'm thinking it must've bounced off the guitar or something. That camera doesn't look like any neck-mount rig I've ever seen.
  2. Yeah, I'm torn on this. On one hand, it's a jumble of old quotes so I doubt it's even a new piece, OTOH the Mirror does have something of a track record for Coldplay News. I really think that anything "bad" (hiatus, split etc.) wouldn't be announced at this time though, with the band having several months of commitments lined up. It's probably something mundane.
  3. Will's his own catagory.:laugh3:
  4. The tone of the statement makes me think it must be something other than the status quo (hiatus maybe?)
  5. It means what it says I guess. I don't see how Chris could've "told" them anything though as this is just another article made up of quotations from old interviews pasted together.:\ I wouldn't worry though as the article specifically says "probably not a split", and the band have commitments well into the immediate future.
  6. Silly it may be, but it's also a reflection of some people's true feelings. If the whole crux of this thread (and countless others) is that we must respect other's opinions, must we not accept that the "true fan" thing reprensents the legitimate opinion of a sizable portion of posters?:\
  7. Every time a band records or releases new material, they're changing to some degree from what they've done before. Change is a given, and so is the fact that with any new release, some people will not care for it compared to what has come before. Find me any popular band whose later work has not attracted some degree of mixed reaction compared to it's early work, it's almost impossible. Even if the band tried to consistantly maintain the Parachutes sound 110%, it would still be different. The only way to avoid this is for the band to cease releasing new work all together.
  8. True, but as I've said before, it's not realistic to not expect that "true fan" mentality to crop up in contexts like this. It's reasonable to post opinions like those in the original article, but seeing as this is a fan site, some of those fans will jump in to defend the band no matter what. It's just the nature of this type of thing, the only real exceptions would be bands that are underground, cult, or otherwise attract a non-commercial following, which Coldplay is about the farthest thing from. In terms of their place in the music industry, they more or less occupy the same niche as those boy bands you mention, and have for about a decade now. It can absolutely be irritating, but it's par for the course IMHO
  9. 2 things: 1. The comment you refer to was actually the one defending the article, "stupid" was used in reference to other posters, not the author. 2. Being asked to not call people stupid is a bit different than a mod "stepping in" IMHO. Tash may be a mod, but many of us may have posted something similar, I'm not sure it should be viewed in the same light as more drastic corrective action.
  10. It's generally gotten a stronger fan reception than most of the other songs on MX.
  11. Most of those weren't really true radio hits, at least as far as how the industry recognizes a hit single. Coldplay's only two true hit singles in North America were Speed of Sound and VLV. The current crop of singles is fairly in line with what most of their singles have done.
  12. To be fair, it could just be that Will is known to play the most instruments.
  13. Fair enough, but I guess I still have an issue with anyone making the statement that any music is objectively "bad", when such a qualification is entirely dependent on one's personal tastes. I'd have been fine with "Why I No Longer Like Coldplay", because that's a supportable statement.
  14. Seriously? There has been relatively few personal attack on this thread IMHO.
  15. From the number of strings he breaks, I'd say it's a fairly good bet Chris' acoustics are strung with relatively light gauges. He's a rough player sometimes, but even so he goes through a ton of strings. Most of the players I've known that to be the case with favor light strings.
  16. That's for electric though. I read somewhere that Chris did use thicker picks on his acoustics. I'll see if I can did it up. Jonny has said before that he doesn't really have a strong preference.
  17. In many ways, Guy's various "outside" persuits have been the most visable, they're just not all musical in nature. He's becoming something of a jack-of-all-trades (at least in an artistic sense.)
  18. It is certainly similar. I don't really see any of the boys being the type to press an issue like this though. (independent of the fact that they'd be opening themselves up to an a#$ton of critisism from the wags who insist they "stole" VLV.:dozey:)
  19. The video was generally received much more favorably than the song itself FWIW.
  20. What?! He smiles and interacts with the audience more this tour than he ever has before.
  21. I'm not saying it shouldn't have been posted here, just that it's a bit silly IMHO to expect it to get a reception other than the type it got. After all, this is a Coldplay fan site, you have to expect most posters are not going to respond well to something like this post.
  22. There's a difference in mocking the article's arguement (which is what the quotes you find ironic are doing), and calling other posters stupid.
