conversely life is a dream death is the only real thing and we are all the imagination of ourselves. I had a teacher who once claimed that he was dead and we were all figments of his imagination....thing is if that's the case....then he's really got a crap imagination. but isn't death part of the life cycle? death is nothing at all. i have only slipped away into the next room. i am i, and you are you. whatever we were to each other, that we still are. call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used to. put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. play, smile, think of me, pray for me. let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effort, no trace of a shadow on it. life means all that it ever meant. it is the same as it ever was. there is unbroken continuity. why should i be out of mind because i am out of sight? i am waiting for you, somewhere very near. just around the corner. all is well. -- Henry Scott Holland 1847 - 1918 Canon of St Paul's, London

is the T.U. here the antiuniverse as the thesis is to the antithesis...cos then you're not really dead (that's of course only if you dies before you entered the tangent universe)...but then if you were living in this universe and thus died in the tangent one...then you'd still be alive...either way ye're still alive..."everything all of the time"
  3. Just to let y'all know that I do appreciate the finer things in life...I have started the animal cracker appreciation thread...why because I love them. Whoever decided to make a slightly sweetened cracker into the shape of an animal was a friggin genius....I mean that is creativity. My favorites are the lion shaped ones!
  4. yes ...in fact I shall

Yes I've watched all the commentaries! But I was thinking more along the lines of Crime and Punishment...Crime and Punishment has the same sort of ideas and symbols- except that in the end...all of the signs that Raskolnikov received...after doing what he was chosen to do (as Donnie was chosen to connect to the parallel universe and make everything ok) this Raskolnikov finds out...that he wasn't really chosen to do all of the stuff. All of the coincidences and stuff that he mistook to be fate...turned out to be false...and then he had to live with it, in terms of religion...Raskolnikov didn't know what to do. He was inherently good, he used to be religious...but in his quest to do his chosen task he lost that...he wasn't sure if he could go back to God. I'd like to think of Donnie in that context. What if he had done everything he had done...flooding the school...lighting Jim Cunningham's house on fire, etc. taken all of the signs (and there's a lot as the commentaries suggest) to be fate- when it wasn't really his fate? What would he do then? I agree he is not insane...I have seen the commentaries and so forth...but would our opinions of him change if we found out that he wasn't really chosen to do all of that?
  6. Dr.Politik...just gotta say yer avatar is brill! I love Donnie Darko...if you don't mind...please comment on the Donnie Darko thread I made in the movies section...if it's still around! I'd really like to read what you have to say.
  7. *singing* and I I never meant to cause you trouble...and I ...I never meant to do ya wrong, and o if I ...well if I ever caused you trooooooooooouble...o no I never meant to do you harm....*end of singing* :D
  8. Once again, I have tried to be tolerant of the choices that others make, and I am not generally concerned with hair...but Rat tails, like mullets, are just plain offensive. Now I realize that this phenomenon (gross fad) went out a while ago, but I continue to see some around. I want to again express my extreme discontent with those who choose to wear them. Futhermore I would like to petition to have them removed from the Star Wars movies. Thank You, and goodbye!
  9. I have been made aware of a website where a pic of Coldplay has been cruelly digitally altered so that a mullet may appear to be on their heads...I will get site details eventually... MULLETS ARE JUST PLAIN OFFENSIVE! PS look out for the rat tail unappreciation thread!
  10. I'm glad that the mb is up and working again! But I really must stress my grave concern for those of the human race who insist on wearing mullets. Now I try to be a tolerant person, and i'd like to think for the most part that I have succeeded, but come on people...they're just plain offensive! For those of you who don't know what a mullet is, it's a utterly horrible hairstyle with unknown origins that has been described by some as "bussiness in the front and party in the back." Sometimes parents make their children wear these haircuts, which I consider cruel and unusual punishment. It is sometimes donned by the likes of country singers. Is anyone else as distressed about these haircuts as me?
  11. This mustache isn't toooooooo bad...but it definitely does not work with the new hair cut...see the God Put A Smile Upon Your Face Video for a visual...nonethelss he is amazing so I don't really care what he looks like...so long as he's got two healthy hands fer playin guitar!

That's actually an interesting concept!!! because fate exists only as an idea...there's no way to test it . So fate in a sense if it does exist is only the manifestation of what you want to happen in your life... It's funny how we turn fate on and off.
  13. oneulove replied to oneulove's topic in The Lounge
well see that's what I was getting in at kind of....see I believe in fate, and about things happening in my life that have indicated my fate...but then something happened- and I know that it wasn't meant to be...but the irony of the situation and mainly my heart is telling me that it was part of something big and beyond me. so now I question whether or not I believe in fate at all because I know that what happened didn't mean anything...and to believe that means I would be being a hypocrite (well more of one)...but to believe it was fate would lead me to false expectations in my life that I just don't need!
  14. animal crackers (yea they are too vicious!)
  15. "members" only...but can we please have a different word...like erm....badger
  16. maybe something happened in the year 1560...something to do with astronomy (cos our dear Jonny did major in astronomy)...."look at earth from outer space" PS Mr. Peed I love yer avatar!
  17. I got this really awesome pic at their concert where my friend snapped the camera just in time to make a really cool effect.

Kind of but no. Cos fate is when there's a set path that you live upon, and it goes along with destiny. Symbols though can just be foreshadowing to stuff that's going to happen (can even be a phone call!).

Hello everyone! Do you believe in fate? Or things happening in one's life that are symbolic of the future?
