[Article] Smashing Coldplay strategy kept new EMI from being DOA
Very interesting, but all that marketing manoeuvering is way too much for my simple mind. I hope the boys of CP didn't have to think about this, its enough that they have to figure out how to be the best band in the world! :smug: :smug: :smug: :smug:

Shiver in Guitar Hero World Tour
Well then I guess Talk would've been just the right speed for a novice like me! Although I do like the bit in Talk where the guitar gets all distorted... :guitarist: Somewhat unrelated, but has to do with Jonny's guitar-playing, I like how he said that he can't really sing along with the rest of the band on DAAHF because the guitar is in a weird time signature and different from the vocals... Nice to see they challenge themselves... it's not always easy to appreciate the layers and complexity of their work, although I'd just as much love a simple song as long as it sounded good!

Everything's Not Lost / In My Place / Lost!?
What's with this theme of losing or being lost? So if you ever feel neglected, and if you think that all is lost, I'll be counting up my demons, yeah, hoping everything's not lost I was lost, I was lost, crossed lines I shouldn't have croseed, I was lost, oh yeah Just because I'm losing doesn't mean I'm lost, doesn't mean I've stopped, doesn't mean I'm across So I take it they're not Lost! Or maybe they are Lost?  :D

Shiver in Guitar Hero World Tour
^^ I know! In the muchmusic interview, Chris said something like Jonny is usually quiet, but he's wise... but he left out cheeky!

Shiver in Guitar Hero World Tour
But I guess the riff at the beginning of Talk is not really a Coldplay original...

Shiver in Guitar Hero World Tour
Congrats Jonny! I believe it's from their Edge interview in Toronto... I love seeing Jonny be something more than the "wing man" in interviews! And I love seeing him have a good ol' laugh after his "melons" and "boobs" comments! Very charming and witty and cheeky... Congrats to Jonny for getting his riff on Guitar Hero! :guitarist:

Xfm Residency
What's old is new again! They're like a group of college kids on radio, not the biggest and best band in the world. I love it! They're freaking hilarious and totally introducing me to new music (a lot of which is probably old music that's new to me!)

A Brilliant Idea!!!!!

The Sun: Coldplay to rush release new album
Will Canadian fans be able to get the EP? Yes, and on eTalk, Chris said that they had tried out a song (presumably Death Will Never Conquer) at the concert the previous night, and that song will be on an EP coming out next year... Anyone know for sure when next year (March, was it?) and will North America be able to get their hands on it?

Coldplay to team up with Miley Cyrus?!
People Chris respects I completely agree! Which is why I think he might be joking. There are artists with whom Chris and Coldplay have performed / collaborated, whose music I don't particularly enjoy or understand. But music is the medium they choose to express their art, and art is completely subjective. So, I totally appreciate the fact that Coldplay peforms with artists who make a contribution to their craft. If Chris wants to collaborate with people he respects and then he does a collaboration with Ms. Cyrus, then he would basically be saying that he repects people who are disrespectful of others. I can put my opinion about her music aside and I even find her photos to be expected from teens these days, but her little Miss Mean Girl stunt on You Tube makes me sick. While Will may not be too big for his boots, this little girl is. Humility is not a quality she seems to possess and she doesn't care who knows it.

Why does Hollywood think you're gay if you like Coldplay?
gay or feminine? The stereotype is that guys are not in touch with their feelings and don't talk about them, and girls are all about feelings. The reality is that there are guys out there who are sensitive to their feelings and others' feelings, and girls who are just cold-hearted and hard-hearted. The fact that Coldplay's lyrics acknowledge human hurts, human loves, and everything in between the two extremes makes them an easy target for people who like stereotypes. As for the "gay" label, anyone who implies that being gay is the equivalent of being feminine hasn't run into some of the guys I've seen marching in pride parades!

Chris Martin reminds me of...
Chris reminds me of... The title character in Antoine de Saint-Exupery's "Le Petit Prince" / "The Little Prince" coz of his blonde curls, his military jacket, and as someone else said on this forum (sorry, I forget who said it) because of his royal robe in the Corbijn version of the VLV video!

Jonny's Riff
Hehehe... I'm replying to my own message... I just read that the sound of the guitar on Strawberry Swing was inspired by Chris' time in Africa. I couldn't hear it at first and truthfully, it sounded more country to me, but then I remembered Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al" and listened to it and can kind of hear the African influence now in the song. (I don't know much about African music, except for their vocal blending *beautiful*, so Paul Simon is my only reference point...) :laugh3:

Coldplay 102.1 The Edge - Jonny/Guy Interview (Videos & Audio added)
Chris was sick Chris couldn't make it to The Edge because his interview at Etalk made him sick! Made me sick too! Alas, Leah and Matt at Much Music are no doctors and even though they did a much better interview than Mulroney and Kim, there was no saving Chris from blowing chunks.... :laugh3: Seriously, the two at Etalk could've prepped a bit better, if not for the fans watching, then definitely for their guests of the day!

Chris when he was 17 (photo)
Le Petit Prince Looks like Chris is going back to his curly roots for this tour! Does anyone besides myself think that Chris, with his curls and military garb, is looking a bit like the title character in Antoine de Saint Exupery's "The Little Prince"? :laugh3:

[Article] The Making Of: Viva La Vida Video
I don't hate the Hype Williams version Thanks for posting the article, BBB! You and Coldplay have schooled me a bit on art history. As I said in another post, Williams' version captures the sound of VLV in a visual format, Corbijn's captures the lyrics. Having read the article, I've been enlightened and appreciate the Williams version more, but I still prefer Corbijn's version that pits the triumphant sounds of VLV against the sad visual of an irrelevant former king. I am grateful that I have been introduced to romanticism/Delacroix, but I don't think I'd say I'm grateful for either video. Music, videos, paintings, it's all art and the two videos are just Coldplay expressing their artistic views without a need for anyone to ingratiate themselves with the band.

Viva La Vida music videos! (Videos in first post)
When I first hear a song, what appeals to me is the music, the blending of guitar (Jonnnnnn!), drum, bass, the sound of the singer's voice, and how those sounds together make me feel... So, the Hype Williams version definitely mimics the feeling of Viva La Vida, but in a visual format. BUT, once I've gotten hooked by a song's sound, I get curious about the lyrics, and Anton Corbijn's version is definitely about the lyrics. The strong feeling evoked by the sound of VLV is nowhere in the video. Instead, we see a pathetic has-been king, and I think that's the beauty of the video, pitting the triumphant sounds against the visual of this sad character. Corbijn's version tells a story, and is more entertaining than seeing a band lip/guitar/drum-syncing. As an aside, in Williams' video, there are some shots of Chris where the visual quality of the shot almost looks like some depictions of Jesus, where the sun is shining on his face, almost like he's glowing...

Coldplay: The Beatles of our Generation?
The Beatles' music is so awesome, that The Beatles are The Beatles of our generation. They may not have made any music lately, but their music is new to every ear that hears it for the first time, and for my generation, I don't think anyone since has had such an impact on music for the die-hard or occasional music listener. Having said that, not since my early memories of hearing my parents' Beatles records have I felt so passionately about a band's music as I do Coldplay's music. And when I have kids, one of their first musical memories will be of hearing their mum's Coldplay cd's and vinyl singles.

Hi! Toronto Coldplay & Jonny fan (in that order!) here
Out of body experience Btw, it took me 2 days to get back into my body after my out-of-body Coldplay experience... After the Toronto show for the X&Y tour, I was so happy it took a while to figure out which direction my place was, hahaha! This time, my delicious delirium was extended from 1 day to 2 coz I went to see them at Etalk (what a joke that interview was... the Much Music interviewers Matt and Leah were leagues above the other two at Etalk!)

Jonny's Riff
Just wanted to repeat... I love, love, loved that they let Jonny extend his solo/riff at the beginning of Strawberry Swing at the July 30 concert! Wooo! Jonnnn!
