Ok I think I see what you're getting at, the thing is the human brain is predisposed to faith and belief because it had a survival benefit and it has spread like you have said. The lack of belief in the past would have probably meant death so I dont quite understand your objection? Religion and Science are fundamentally opposed. One is based on reason and evidence, the other on faith, or belief without evidence. The two realms are incompatible. Religious scientists compartmentalise reality and fantasy, if you asked them what is the scientific evidence of God they would be forced to concede there is none and that they base it on faith which totally against science.

Yeh the day when religion is finally gone will be a greater human achievement that landing on the moon I think, well maybe not that but it would be huge. scientific progress would step into 5th gear overnight. you may know this already but the part of the brain that controls worship and mindless following is the reptilian brain. We still have it in our head, along with the even more primitive brain stem and more recent mammalian brain. The reptillian brain also controls territorial agression, sex and racism. It is possible to bypass this part of the brain straight to the cerebal cortex but unfortunately some people do not posess that seemingly easy ability. So in essence what im saying is we all the capablilty to ignore religion but indoctrination is a hard thing to shake. Ultimately indoctrination can also be explained on a darwinian level but I wont bore you :)

Grow up will you. Religion and science are not equal. Its like saying harry potter is equal to science. Get a grip and stop getting yourself so worked up over people saying things about religion. Also yes science can learn lots from religion, for instance, how memes spread through childhood indoctrination. Religion is poison.

I like what you've written and I agree with most of it except for the last line "I thank God for U2, because without them, Coldplay wouldn't exist." Im pretty sure coldplay would still exist but yeh, their music would be slightly different. U2 are not even coldplay's biggest influence. Chris is in inspired mostly by Bob Dylan. Plus a whole host of other bands as im sure you know (Flaming Lips, Aha, Echo & the bunnymen etc...).

I love listening to Radiohead & coldplay while trying to get to sleep. Bulletproof, true love awaits, your love means everything, see you soon etc... are all brilliant to listen to to get your imagination going before sleep.

Its a sad thought to think some things may be unknowable, but we are still at the beginnings of science, imagine what we will know in a million years. That would be a pretty cool thread actually. lol yeh I've heard that quote, Its by Douglas Adams I think. And yeh I know of the LHC but I wasnt aware of that! That would be amazing. With Lee Smolin's theory the Universes are offspring of this Universe, only with slightly different variations of the laws of physics, so maybe there could be a universe thats not so different from our own that it allows us to exist inside it? He thinks that the universes evolve just like Darwinian evolution. The driving force for selection is the universes that can survive long enough to produce black holes, so there is the survival pressure. Any universe with not enough matter wouldnt survive, any universe with the wrong gravitational settings wouldnt survive etc, etc. Still I dont know what to think about how something either came from nothing or always existed. I think the longest I thought about it was about 5 minutes before my brain started hurting.

Yeh your right, theres no getting away from the truth but wonderful quotes like that help me alot too. I try to make people around me happy and help them through life. What are your views on the origin and universe? Are you familiar with Lee Smolins theory regarding the evolution of the universe? He theorizes that at the centre of every black hole a new universe lies on the other side and that we are on the other side of another. Maybe one day our descendants will be able to travel between universes to survive the end of this one, who knows, its billions of years away and technology would be off the charts if intelligent life still exists.

lol me neither, I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy, and I highly doubt you are :D I just like to think about how lucky we are that we exist. I mean, the chances that me and you exist are astonishing. Every single one of our ancestors over 4.6 billion years has never failed to reproduce and here we are a product of that unguided process.

I use a digital tablet and adobe photoshop and just draw directly into my computer. Its just like painting except without the mess. I love it. If you want I can make a picture of you into a zombie or something? I need portfolio work anyway because Ive decided I want to become a games concept artist so its no bother?
