Ghost Stories by the numbers
MX opening numbers being higher than GS opening numbers (this isn't official yet by the way) could be attributed to the fact that when MX was released, Paradise was already a hit song while ASFOS is just starting to chart. True Love and O (piano ballads have been very popular lately with Someone Like You, When I was Your Man by Bruno Mars, Stay by Rihanna and All Of Me by John Legend) could become big hits but we'll have to wait and see.

Updating the OP with new achievements: --Coldplay getting their 3 rd top10 ever in the US and their first #1 on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs. Also going to update with these new chart peaks: on the Billboard Hot100: ASFOS #10 (I still can't believe this. Amazing) Magic #14 and Midnight #29. on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs: ASFOS #1, Magic #3 and Midnight #6 This is the first time ever that Cokdplay has had 3 songs in the top30. This is an amazing feat. This is also the first time they've had 3 songs in the top10. Very impressive. Ghost Stories is doing amazing!!!!

There's nothing to worry about. Ghost Stories is the fastest selling album of the year in the UK and in the US which means they will have the biggest opening of the year so far. MX opened in the US with 447K, GS will open close or around 400K. That is very good since albums sales have plummeted in the last few years. No other albums in the US have been able to sell over 290K this year. And with A Sky Full Of Stars taking off, the album should have more longevity than MX.

Ghost Stories is now predicted to sell between 340K and 360K in the US. Yesterday it was predicted to sell between 325 and 350K. Let's hope that the numbers keep rising. This is already amazing but I want them to sell over 400K

Coldplay are on track for their sixth UK Number 1 album with Ghost Stories, while former Beautiful South duo, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, are hot on their heels Coldplay look set to knock Michael Jackson off the top of the Official Albums Chart this weekend. Up to midnight last night, the group’s new studio album, Ghost Stories, has sold over 105,000 sales since it was released on Monday (May 19), according to the Official Charts Company’s sales data. The album is on track to become Coldplay’s sixth UK Number 1 on Sunday, following 2000’s Parachutes, 2002’s A Rush Of Blood To The Head, 2006’s X&Y, 2008’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends and 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, which have sold more than 11.1 million copies between them in the UK alone. In related news, Ghost Stories will also become the UK’s fastest selling artist album of 2014. Based on its current momentum, Ghost Stories will overtake the opening week tally of current record holder, Caustic Love by Paolo Nutini (109,000) in the next 24 hours. (May 20, 2014) Coldplay to perform on The Voice Finale
I'm watching. If they perform ASFOS, the song will shoot back to the top 10 or higher. I can see it going as high as 3 on iTunes by tomorrow.

Ghost Stories is predicted to sell between 325-350K in the USA this week. This is a VERY EARLY estimate. It will probably be more than that. But in any case, it's guaranted to be the biggest release of the year in the US.

Critic ratings.
The Pitchfork review is so ridiculous that it made me laugh. They hated Midnight and its amazing video. They hated True Love as well. How is this even possible? This shows the guy just hates Coldplay and will never like any of their stuffs. They didn't even mention Oceans. They also didn't mention Always In My Head. 2 of the album highlights!! The reviewer obviously wanted a grandiose album like MX with big anthems, that's why he was so harsh. Coldplay consciously decided to make a stripped down album so hating the album because it's not full of anthems is actually a compliment.

I heard ASFOS for the first time tonight. Edit: US Pop radio (which represents 80% of radio) didn't really support Magic. It peaked at 32 on Adult Pop stations but Coldplay's core formats (Alternative and Adult Alternative) loved Magic. It peaked at #6 on Alternative and #1 on Adult Alternative. This resulted in a total of 12-13 millions listeners which is low compared to the big songs that Scand over 200 millions in airplay audience. However, the nature of A Sky Full Of Stars makes it very likely to be a huge radio hit. It has a huge crossover appeal. A Sky Full Of Stars airplay as of this morning was around 1.9 millions. This is just the beginning. I'll keep you updated. So radio support hasn't been terrific but there is nothing to be worried about (at least for now).

Just saw this. Let me read. Thank you Edit: Excellent article. I have 2 corrections (probably just a typo): the US certifications for Viva and MX are wrong but the others are right. Ghost Stories will have the biggest opening week of 2014 so far and it seems to be selling more than MX. Let's keep our fingers crossed. We'll have first predictions about the US sales on Tuesday.

Updating with these albums certifications. Netherlands GOLD 25K Switzerland GOLD 15K This is very impressive given the album was certified in these countries before the release. I think it will be certified PLATINUM very soon.

That was for a special event, Record Store Day. It was a promotional single not an official single like Magic. The band called it promo single, I don't know why shouldn't we? I'm already having problems finding some data about it, if it was an official single, I wouldn't have this issue this early.
