OK. Here we go. Responding to fakfak's previous post (sorry, this took a while to type, and that's why it looks so out of place): 1. If you're not comparing us to those people, then why would you even bring it up in the first place? That makes no logical sense. 2. No, I got that. I just think you're wrong. It's like rainplay said. Saying you'd never do something, just to turn around and do it (e.g. appear on "Glee")...it's a little bit offputting. Why would you do something you said you wouldn't do? Also, the difference between "Yellow" and most stuff off of MX is that "Yellow" is actually a fine piece of work. MX is not. You seriously cannot tell me that "Yellow" and "Paradise" are the same type of pop song. If you honestly think that...well, I don't know what to tell you. 3. OH FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. First off, that post is utter garbage anyway. He tried to make a point and failed. Secondly, anyone who compares Coldplay to acts like that are wrong, as Coldplay aren't even like Muse or Radiohead. Third, people have been saying the same thing about Muse, so your point is invalid. 4. But it is. They've changed each album. Each album has a different feel. I'm not saying that's a problem. (That is, unless we really want to get into a discussion about how subpar I feel MX is, but I've already mentioned that once, and I'd rather not get into that discussion right now.) That's my point. It's fine that have pop, as long as it's good. It's just that MX is a really bad example of that, and it's more like the not-so-good pop we all hear on the radio than the soild, beautiful pop that we're all used to hearing. (Don't accuse me of being one of those people who just like the old stuff, either, because I'm totally a Viva kid.) Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, this is kinda trivial, but learn how to multi-quote. Please.

We like to assess what our partner's tastes are before we go about making it. A lot of us go about this by looking at our partner's Last.fm pages. If you have one, share it. (Mine just happens to be in my sig, where it says "Last." Obviously.) If you don't have one, please at least leave a good solid list of genres and/or arists you like. LOLWUT. No, seriously. Here's what's wrong with what you just said. 1. We never implied anything. Neither of us. You're just pulling stuff out of thin air. 2. There's a difference between immersion within a certain facet of pop culture and abandoning part of the identity you had as an artist before said immersion. Neither of us are saying this is exactly what's going on with Coldplay, but it sometimes comes off that way. I don't get why that's so hard to understand. 3. Comparisons? To whom? Give me an example. 4. Ummm. I don't know if you're listening to the same thing I'm listening to, but I think Coldplay have changed pretty drastically.

Yeah, for the most part, the acts that perform on those sorts of shows aren't quality music. (There are exceptions, but generally speaking, that's how it is.) This isn't even taking into consideration that this stuff is live music, which is something I tend to be pretty darn picky about.

No, you don't get it, because she never mentioned anything about "indie cred." (You must be reading between the lines or something.) They've been popular since they've started. It's the way in which they're currently immersing themselves into pop culture in ways that they haven't done previously, even being as popular as they were beforehand. They're, in a way, becoming something that they weren't in the beginning. If that makes any sense.

You completely missed the point she was trying to make. She mentioned that they already had exposure and were popular. She was merely mentioning how they're making decisions now that they wouldn't have probably made in the past.

While he IS a pop artist, there are too many subgenres for you to generalize that all pop more or less sounds like this. (I'm not saying that's what you meant, but that's what it sounded like to me.) Second, Coldplay using synths does not mean they suddenly have "space rock influences." It means they're using synths. There's a difference.
