Actually i think its quite good. Considering that all the songs on that chart had 7 or 6 days to be at the position and to sell what they did , i think that its actually quite amazing that Coldplay managed to get a top 20 christmas song in only 3 days. ( it was aveliable dicember 1 at 8 pm ) so it had 2 or 3 days to achive that. And considering that it took coldplay arround 12 or 1 day to get to it's itunes peak , 18 its a good result . its the number 1 holiday song in the UK right now , and only with 3 days :cool: :cool: . Although i think the label should have made it aveliable to download from sunday or monday , to peak higher , but anyways. Umm , im actually quite young . I have 19 years old ( was born in 1991). For me the late 80's and90's were the best years , and really were aswome . And for me things REALLY started to decline after 1997/1998 with the release of this Pop teen stars ( britney , christina , jessica simpson etc.) and these teen bands ( Nysnc , backstreet boys ) and things really went down . For me late 80's and 90's every artist that i love , were on their peak createvely , artistically etc. From michael jackson ( thriller , bad , dangerous , history ) , U2 were on their peak ( JT and AB ) arround those dates . Oasis were also ontheir best point ( morning glory and countless other albums :) ) , radiohead were . Aerosmith , Gun's and roses were arround this time too , and their had their best work done here . Then solists , from i dont know , michael bolton to Mariah Carey , to Celine Dion , to Janet Jackson , Madonna , Alanis Morrisette. Metalica also released over the 90's amazing music. Nirvana was here too. I mean i can not stop thinking of artists and their quality of their music was amazing , and completely not comparable to music released today. I mean for me everyone was at their peak :D I don't know i really think it was such a great decade , 1995/96 were such epic years in music . Maybe im wrong or what , but i can agree that after 98 all started going downhill after

If you are refering to God Put A Smile Upon Your Face it was techincally a single , it was released as the last ( 4th) single of AROBTTH. :) . And if i remember , i tihnk it was released a year after AROBTTH came out , something like that . Check Wikipedia for more accurate dates :P

Well , of course , for any artists album sales or sell out tours would mean more. Considering that coldplay has no album out or tour , i think that this will make them pretty happy :D . It makes them feel that their music is appriciated :)

Well , of course . I mean , sales =/= talent or quality in fact . Charts today , are ruled by artist which its quality its completely awful (although they do some catchy songs :P ) such as rihanna's songs , katy perry's , justin bieber , britney etc. In my opinion , charts back in the 90's used to be better , usually 80 % that was attop of the charts used to have a little bit of quality or actually used to be good. Music before used to be better , Charts were topped by Greenday , U2 ( at their peak) , Radiohead , Oasis , Aerosmith , Nirvana etc . At the pop/R&B charts by Michael Jackson , Madonna ( at her peak and where she made all of her "classics") , Janet jakson. And even Adult contemporary artists such as Whitney Houston , Celine or Mariah. Now music is crap , but its nice to see that people care about good quality , and to see "quality" music at the top of the charts and ruling the world its pretty cool, and makes me feel proud :cool:

Well , Radio stations over the UK and USA are already playing christmas songs , airplay starts rising , specially after thanksgiving in USA and 1st dicember or late november un UK . Chrsitmas classic if you look at the UK chart are already starting to rise . Although they havent done much promotion , they have TOTP which is massive + Itunes banners , they have a big one , and 2 small ones , and that is the best promotion you can get ( probably one of the reasons why CL is top 5 in every country in the world) if not , the song would only be known by the fans , cause there was no hype arround the song , we actually fans , got to know that CL was released a week earlier . For example if it was Coldplay's first single of LP5 , the following up to VLV , the hype would be amazing , and i wouldnt give that much credit to itunes banner , but in this case it is . They have the best promotion you can buy , bascially every buyer that goes into Itunes will see Christmas lights . Other thing , maybe you should buy the song know , and start a campain to request Christmas Lights at radio in both US and UK. And requesting it on music channels. so that people will listen to them on the radio , and go straight to download it :D

Sorry to say , but the single is already charting incredibly high . First of all , christmas week is an specially hard week for coldplay's single to become number one . Xfactor winner always gets that number one , and its nor really specially , i mean if you get number one before its okey :) 2006 Leona Lewis "A Moment Like This" 4 2007 Leon Jackson "When You Believe" 3 2008 Alexandra Burke "Hallelujah" and actually in 2009 , Rage Against the Machine got the christmass number 1. WHY ? the song was part of a successful Facebook campaign to prevent The X Factor winner's song from gaining the Christmas number one in the United Kingdom. The campaign provoked commentary from both groups and other musicians, as well as gaining coverage in national and international press . Thing that i dont really belive that if we create a facebook group , Coldplay will promote it , or gain international press. And for the worring of charting to high at first week and then dropping , usually singles , specially in the UK because they are based on downloads alone , tend to drop after the first week or 2 . But given the thing that its a christmas single , and with the airplay gaining ( that although it dosnt count towards the chart , it will get the song to more people , and therefore more people buying the song ) it might even rise toward Christmas. I think that what might hurt the single sales a little bit is that on itunes its not selected as a Holiday song , its as an alternative. Lots of people while reaching to christmas , usually go to Itunes holyday site and download songs , but they wont see Christmas lights . But then , they have a massive campain on Itunes main page on every store in the world :lol:

With this i kinda agree , its true , they could have charged for the song and giving the profits for charity , but anyways , only the killers and a few acts dont . Im pretty sure that the 2 concerts that they made + The auction they did was pretty good. Well , I mean , its not that hard , you go to Itunes , open it up , and basically 95% of the songs are on sale for 1.29 dollars. I mean , i know it would be better for it to be free , buts its not the wierdiest thing , or wrong. Comparing it with their "pals" lets say . You can see that the 5 killers christmas singles are on sale for 1.29 . U2's version of Christmas ( baby please come home) its on sale too . Elvis has christmas songs too on sale , Bruce springsteen has on sale too , John lennon etc. Theres a whole list of 200 songs on itunes holiday chart that is songs, (the most relevant now a days ) that are charged. So , if everybody offers them for money , why shouldnt Coldplay ? . I mean , i guess they had to pay for production or whatever , and they deserve it :) Plus , on itunes , in each section , there is always , what they call " Single of the week " and that is aveliable for free on itunes . Last week it was Jessica Simpson , now its Naturally 7. Maybe you should check , maybe its not longer for free the Hurts songs you downloaded. Usually not so-well-known acts put for free their songs for making their song more known lets say. Stablished artists such as coldplay dont need that kind of promotion.

Mariahs 2 christmas albums Taylor Swift christmas album Susan Boyle christmas album Lady antebellum Christmas album Josh Groban Christmas album Michael Buble christmas EP Jessica's simpson christmas album Are ALL on sale , and their respective singles are all at the price of 1.29 dollars. Plus , Singles of for example The Killers " Boots" is on sale at 1.29 dollars too . Classical and traditional songs are too at price Basically the only Christmas single you can download for free is Jessica simpson's My only wish ( An all i want for christmas rip off :rolleyes: ) which is for free because jessica is despearate to be relevant again and wants people to hear her music. and btw , for beeing such a poor comparison , mariahs christmas songs do pretty well and are pretty good :P modern holiday cannon :)

Don't you get i can not buy !? USA its not the only fucking country in the world . I can not buy digital songs from fucking itunes amazon walmart best buy or whatever you name it ! Its not a matter of dont wanting to support the band , is that i can't So , i cant at itunes , i cant at amazon : Im going to be editing this , as soon as music shops dont let me buy the music. I guess you don't understand the problem. Open up your itunes. Change country , select Brazil/Uruguay/Argentina . You will realize , that the people living in this countries , can NOT but music ( albums or singles) from itunes. We only have an app store. Dont ask me why. :thinking: So , what happens is , okey , im not able to buy it on itunes , should i listen to it on a crappy quality ? , or someone can be a good friend and send us the rip version of Christmas lights :rolleyes: ? It's not really my fault , i usually support 100% what coldplay does. and have bought several singles over ebay + their 4 albums + Gold edition prospekts and 3 verisons of dvds , but this is truly out of my reach :)

you are right ! maybe i expressed myself wrongly , my english kinda sucks :P . The sales are from those 7 days , from sunday-saturday that counts for that week , of course. If not , no one would be able to get a number one cause the beatles would be there :P. So yes , that would be quite a good thing , to organize a download day , for example 18th dicember , and everybody starts , maybe it will get a higher peak. Plus now with the TOTP performance announced for christmas , this could be a big hit overseas !

well , actually i dont really know how UK chart works , but i think that from sunday to saturday they count the sales , so the sales given in that time will be counted. The best thing to do is to realease a single for example a monday , because , the sales will be of all the week in a 7 period day . Coldplay is releasing the single on a wedsnesay , so only has 4 days for the song to chart , if it was released on a monday it was more likely to chart higher on the charts . Sometimes they do that . For example , they say that if you pre-order the album , they will let you donwload the first single for free , and i think that that is in order to increase album sales , or they do discounts of the song , for the song to chart higher is other posibility. I wasnt arround for the Viva era , so i realyl cant speak about it :/

Well , in the UK christmas number one is called to the single that is in the number one position by the time is christmas ( 25dic) and it doesn't have to be a christmas song . Actually if you check the previous years , the christmas number one song its always the X-Factor winner song :\ The official Uk chary company is based ONLY on single sales (physicall + digital) . US charts and like 95% of the charts in the world are based on airplay+sales , but not the uk. To get Christmas lights to number one , uk people will have to download the song from digital retrilers such as amazon.co.uk or itunes . By this time , physicall singles are almost done , so even if christmas lights got a physicall release date , that wouldnt help too much. Basically , every song that is aveliable for download can get into the uk charts if it has the right amount of downloads. UK chart's are announced on Sundays , so hopefully Christmas Lights will be able to enter . Other thing is that , as closeer you get to christmas , the more likely the song will rise . For example if Chrismtas lights was released in june , it wouldnt chart too high because its 6 months away from chrimstas ( the only people who would buy it would be fans ) but as soon as christmas comes , in Dicember it will start to rise :) Hope this clears something , its a little bit messy :thinking: , but anyway , if you have a question , dont hastiate to make it :P
