  4. D'awww. Everyone have fun this weekend. I'm back to work :\ Ines, I heard about it on Twitter amongst the Musery people who were all discussing it. If I'm honest I have no idea where the idea/rumour/truth has sprung from but it is circulating around.

But it's from 9-7 with only an hour break so I'm proper shattered today. Also, anyone else know any more about this rumour of Dom having a girlfriend? :inquisitive:

  8. Howdy! I'm the individual responsible for your mixtape. I'm really glad that you enjoyed it so much. I was hoping that you would like some of the tracks but that response was a bit overwhelming. At the moment I'm away on holiday so I'm sat using 3G which is temperamental at best, so I will do a proper reply when I get back.
  9. I thought it might be. I feel terrible because I found Mumford & Sons first and was told that Fleet Foxes were very similar so never gave them the chance (although an interview in NME this week was starting to convince me I should listen before the second album comes out) so this was the shove in the right direction! That would be why, I have the normal edition. Will have to go scoping around for other tracks. And yes, it sounds slightly different to normal it was only toward the tail end of the track did I start to think that maybe it was Apparatjik! I think you may be very right about it being something to write to. I very much like them and the addition of you saying that they are beaty means I will most definitely be looking them up! Oh, have fun with that! From what I've heard it will be a whole heap of fun! Never seen that before  so I don't think it is from there. I do think it was probably when I used to use last.fm and they suggested that Empire of the Sun were similar to Miami Horror (I think that was more because they are both Australian groups rather than their sound being alike if I'm honest). I am surprised actually. :stunned: I've never listened to any Dylan prior to this so... :shifty: Nope, you needn't say more. I should have guessed! Now you say it, I totally can't believe I didn't see it sooner. Eno was the Artistic Director at the Brighton Festival last year and I went to one of his exhibits which was a sound/light event and now you say it-- totally that vibe. Brilliant! Looking up straight away! Thanks :D :laugh3: Wow. I'm good at guessing bands but obviously my memory is not sharp enough to pick out all the songs. I guess it's because I've never heard this track before (I've always heard the 'bug' stuff, I guess). I think it's probably because I'm used to old school U2 and haven't heard any of their newer stuff beyond radio airplay. It's not my favourite U2 track, but I will take your advice and listen again and again. Thank you fo the time and effort you put in, it's much appreciated. And I get to take away a few new bands and tracks which is always an added bonus in any situation!
  10. Sorry to whoever made my tape that it took me so long to review! Anyway here it is: Track 1- A really nice and relaxing opener to the mixtape. I’d say it sounds along par of Mumford & Sons—so maybe Fleet Foxes? It’s a little bit like the new-wave folk music which I’ve been meaning to check out and never really got around to— so this is definitely the shove in the right direction. I really like the vibe that the song is giving off; it makes me think of summer spent lazing in fields. Got to check out more of whomever this is. Track 2- I really love this track, like proper love it. The electronic/synthed style of the song is really cool and the contrast it has with his voice and lyrics is just stunning. The two opposing dynamics work really well and gives the track this really surreal feel. It reminds me heavily of Apparatjik—maybe it is and I’ve missed a release!? Track 3- The Strokes ‘Under Cover of Darkness’—so much yes! I’ve had the album since release day and can’t emphasise how much everyone should definitely, definitely listen to it. ‘Angles’ is fantastic, as if most of their back-catalogue. And they’re just getting back in to their live game—so you have to be in on it. Track 4- The singer(s) have really nice enough voices. But I’ve never been a massive female singer fan unless there is a driving force behind the song… And the beat in this isn’t really pushing it along so this feels a little tame to me. If they do have a song that has more of that—I would most definitely consider re-listening and give them more of a chance. Track 5- At first I thought I had the same issue as above with this track. But I warm to the track it once the drum-beat kicks in during the chorus. And I definitely appreciate the guitars on it too. It feels really heavy and dramatic—it totally gives me the vibe that it should belong in a movie soundtrack. Track 6- I thought for a bit that it was going to be a proper jazz instrumental. Imagine my surprise when it turns out not at all to be like that… It’s very much ska with what I guess you can tab as latino influences in there. It reminds me of Madness which is totally equitable to my childhood which is probably why it makes me smile a whole lot. Track 7- A class follow up to that is definitely Empire of the Sun ‘We are the people’. No idea how I, literally, stumbled across these guys (I have the feeling it has a link to Miami Horror) but they are definitely another one of those bands not enough people know about. Basically they are summer and sunshine—with really nice rhythms and they just sound completely fresh and different. Track 8- Wow. It’s blues—now there’s a genre I’ve never ventured into before! And it’s surprised me that actually I am able to listen to it (heh, I am a genre snob). I really like the acoustic guitar in this; it feels sort of melancholic without being too over the top about it. The piano parts of it also feel right and suited at the time. Track 9- Here we have an instrumental interlude. It reminds me quite a bit of when Nine Inch Nails went instrumental (minus the overwhelming grunginess). I can’t decide what instruments it has in it at all—but I think part of the charm in this is if you don’t analyse it too much. When I close my eyes my mind definitely sort of makes this a chase/hunt scene—because it has the pace and the ‘building up’ that creates that atmosphere. The only downside to the track is that I don’t have the following track—so in my minds’ eye I never know how it concludes because we just cut out! Track 10- The piano and strings in this track are the things that stand out most to me because they really help to emphasise the tone that the song is going for. The singer’s voice is beautiful and subtle and the lyrics are just heart wrenchingly beautiful. Track 11- My immediate thought of this track is that it reminds me a lot of Travis, which is a good thing. It’s a very multi-layered track that, on every listen, offers me something different to focus in on. There’s guitars, drums, piano, the lead singer and then there are some choral moments in it. It works together really well. Track 12- I would say this is U2. Not a song that I know of theirs—but I definitely recognise Bono’s voice. I have so much appreciation for this band unlike anything else and I still aim to see them live one day. This song, unfortunately, takes a little long to get going so I don’t know whether I’d be able to listen to it on my iPod without fast-forwarding the super long intro. Track 13- A nice finishing track, sort of feel like it lends itself well to coming full circle. I particularly like the instrumental interludes/solo/bridges—because that’s when the guitar work, piano and the woodwind really comes in to its’ own... The verses are a bit bland for me though. Mixtape highlights: Track 1, 2, 10, 11 There are only two tracks I didn't particularly like; the rest I'm more than willing to go and look in to a bit more and listen to other songs. Thank you very much mixtape maker!
  11. ^^ Awww! That's amazing! Have a good time. I wish my Dad surprised me with Muse tickets (admittedly he surprised me with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Rush tickets :wacky:) Also, with that video. I'd love to do one... But I think it's come up at the wrong time as my mind is completely elsewhere.
  12. Sorry I've been such a lameoid that I haven't written a review... I'm going to sit down this morning and write it all out.
  13. From first over listening I'm very much liking my mixtape. I will listen a bit closer on my way home (3 hour train journey, wooo ) and I will post a review when I get back.
  14. Ohmygosh, mine has arrived! Thank you very much. I'm going to d/l and listen right now! :escaping:
  15. I'm looking forward to getting mine so I can listen to it on the train journey tomorrow. It will give me a lot of time to think and write a decent review hopefully =3
  16. Awww, I'm sorry they're not coming over to see you. I'm a bit disappoint that they're only doing one tour date in Europe. I was really hoping for them to turn up and rock the world in Beni
  17. Have you got mine? I did send it in the end... Because after all my issues, my upload did complete?
  18. :awesome: At the moment Muse are showing the US some serious lovin'. It's well and truly overdue.
  19. I was about to say what sort of insane time do you call this (I'm getting ready for work... Uh-- yay?) Have fun
  20. Ooohhh. That sounds cool. I've been good. Uber busy though.
  21. How've you been? It's been like a proper age.
  22. Oh haii btw. I'm all up in your thread, doin' the creep.
