The 7th Mixtape Exchange (1ST POST UPDATE)
Yeah, when I made that mixtape I wasn't really thinking straight, so I just put some of the tracks I liked listening to at the time on it, so sorry 'bout that. ): Shame you didn't like some of the times, with my finals rolling in this week, I honestly didn't have any time to see what your interests were. I'm very well aware that most of the songs are pretty boring, but I tried not to be too predicable (looks like I didn't do a very good job of that :\). If you want, I can remake it.

You can take a look at my mix (track listing in my last post; download link on last page). It's mainly alternative rock.

You'll know what I mean if you come visit Canada. There's noone. I repeat, noone, who knows Oasis (or any decent British bands to be honest), let alone Don't Look Back In Anger. Everyone's too caught up in stupid rap and pop. Kent is a band I listen to because of my girlfriend. I wouldn't have known about them if she didn't tell me about them. I really recommend you check out their album "Vapen och ammunition". It's my favourite by them.

Yeah, the order is all messed. If you like the mix tape enough, then I suggest you listen to it in order. I'll post the order of the tracks at the end of this post. 1- "Dead American Writers - Tired Pony" A very recent track by a side-project formed by Snow Patrol's singer, Gary Lightbody. The chorus is just so addictive to me, probably because I like falsetto-ey songs, as I can sing them all very well. (: I'm not sure why, but I just love singing in falsetto and hitting those high notes. 2- "Don't Look Back In Anger - Oasis" Really, this has got to be my favourite Oasis track (there were 3 main choices for the mix - The Importance of Being Idel, Falling Down, and this). I've already overplayed this track to death like you, but I am still not over it yet. I just think this song just doesn't get the reputation or popularity that it deserves, so I put it on the mix. 3- "Well Thought Out Twinkles - Silversun Pickups" Because of this song, Silversun Pickups became one of my favourite bands. Just a basic rock track, and it's just like all the other Silversun Pickups tracks. However, every SP track has its certain kick, and I just liked this one. By the way, the on and on and on and on is typical of SP. :P 4- "Dom andra - Kent" Yep, this song is definitely not in English; it's in Swedish. For some strange reason, I have just fallen in love with this song. I don't even know why. 5- "Last Goodbye - The Enemy" It's definitely The Enemy. Clarke's voice in this song is weird for me, but it's still an awesome song. 6- "Little House - The Fray" You're right again, it's The Fray. Little House, contrary to what you said, is on their first album. As soon as I first heard this song, I thought it was amazing, how powerful both the guitar and the piano are in the song. Lyrics are kind of emo, however. 7- "Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers" I like this song because it's not like most RHCP songs; it's downbeat and it doesn't have a climax. I like the lyrics for some reason, also. 8- "Bleed American / Salt, Sweat, Sugar - Jimmy Eat World" Wow, what a coincidence o-o. The track is literally called Bleed American (Salt, Sweat, Sugar is its alternative title. The name was changed after the 9/11 attacks that occurred very soon after the album came out). I really like the guitars and the rhythm on this track. 9- "Declaration of Dependance - Starfield" The first on this mix. I think it has an excellent intro, and the rest of the tune is pretty nice as well. 10- "Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters" For me, this song is very underrated. And just like Don't Look Back In Anger, I decided to put it on the mix for that reason. It's a really nice track, and the bridge part is pretty damn amazing in my opinion. 11- "Glorious (Guiding Light Remix) - Muse" This remix (if you can even call it that, haha) was made by me some time ago, when I thought the Guiding Light rocket intro would lead great into Glorious (any Muse fan would know what I'm talking about). Glorious was one of those tracks that just kept growing on me. At first I thought it was garbage, but after 10 listens or so I realized it was a masterpiece. 12- "White Noise - The Living End" An Australian band. I don't see the 80's rock influences, and it's a 2009 track. I like this track because it sounds like The Importance of Being Idel. That's enough for me to love it. I agree it does get kind of repetitive. 13- "Boston - Augustana" By far, the poppiest mainstream rock track in the mix. I can really relate to this track right now, and it felt good with the flow of the mix (you really should listen to the mix in its original order). Not much to say about it; it's a generally good track. Reminds me of The Fray, too. 14- "Life - Our Lady Peace" Weird, this track was actually meant to be the ending track. o-o Anyways, I fully agree, it is very very emo. I hate the vocals, but I just can't resist how meaningful the song is (spoiler alert - it's about how unfair life is). It has a nice outro as well. I like final tracks to be upbeat and gives that last and final energy boost before fading away. Thank you sooo much for reviewing my mix! I was almost about to give up all hope in ever getting a mix, haha. It seems that we has similar music tastes, as you could guess a lot of the tracks/artists. Good job! Weird you put ???'s. I have all the track names labeled, but the artists hidden... Whatever. (<-awesome Oasis track, btw. :D) Alright, here's the actual track listing (again, give it a listen in order, I spent some time on the flow of the songs): 1. Declaration of Dependance - Starfield 2. Salt, Sweat, Sugar - Jimmy Eat World 3. Well Thought Out Twinkles - Silversun Pickups 4. Dead American Writers - Tired Pony 5. Don't Look Back In Anger - Oasis 6. Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers 7. White Noise - The Living End 8. Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters 9. Glorious (Guiding Light Remix) - Muse 10. Boston - Augustana 11. Last Goodbye - The Enemy 12. Dom andra (The Others) - Kent 13. Little House - The Fray 14. Life - Our Lady Peace

I waited a couple more days, and I still don't have my review. Well, here's my tape, if anyone wants to review it. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2UEXOA93 NOTE: It's a different mix from what I originally sent in, because I wanted to add a couple more songs, and change the track listing a bit. I think it's generally better. Enjoy, whoever is reviewing it! Edit: I didn't bother to remove the track names, but I did remove the artist titles. P.S. There's a lot of popular artists and tracks on there, so you'll recognize some songs.

I kinda assumed my mixtape maker would be American, haha (: How did you tell I was a Muse fan? Did Exo-Politik give it away? Well, I'm really more of an Oasis fan, so you can kinda realize why I didn't like the electronic-y stuff. Many of those bands I've heard before, such as Kasabian, The Raconteurs, FatM, Pheonix, Brandon Flowers, Mika, and Imogen Heap, but I never heard any of their songs before. I'll definitely be checking some of them out. One weird thing is that I always thought The Raconteurs were French. Guess they're not.

Alright, I've procrastinated long enough. :P Here's my review for the mix I received: Track 1- Electronic sounds... Not really the best song to start with, to be honest. Sounds like MGMT, but I'm not sure if it's a guy or a girl singing... I'm not really a fan of electronic songs, so this isn't something that I would listen to. Track 2- Starts out with some A Capella. Then comes in a light acoustic guitar with male voices singing vocal harmonies. For some reason, I actually really like this song. The buildup and climax during the chorus is really well done. Overall a nice and soothing track. It suddenly ends though... I think there's just some issues with the file. Track 3- Starts out with Fix You organs, and into an alternative-y rock track. I like the fuzzy bass and the backup vocals during the chorus. A nice guitar solo as well. I really really like this track, because it's more like the music I listen to. Track 4- A poppy electronic-ish track. Then comes a really high male voice singing many parts at the same time. This song kinda focuses too much on the vocals, and it's kind of repetitive. At least it didn't fade out. Track 5- Snare drums start this song. Then comes in a jazzy voice with some Sax. Eh, this isn't something I would personally listen to. Track 6- Piano, synth, bass, and vocals start this song. The singing sounds like Brandon Flowers, but I could be wrong. I like how the guitar, piano, and bass blend together in this track. Nice tune. Track 7- I'm surprised I haven't heard any of the songs on this mix yet, but this one I definitely have heard. You and Your Heart, by Jack Johnson. It's a really nice track, starting out with a simple and light guitar riff. Like most other Jack Johnson track, it's a relaxing and enjoyable listen. Track 8- Starts out seeming like another jazz song, but it quickly kicks in with creepy guitar picking, and a chilling voice. A ghostly track. The lyrics are kinda crappy, and the vocals seem unsteady. I kinda wished this song built up and exploded, but it really didn't go anywhere. Track 9- Starts out instantly with a guitar riff and piano. Then comes in a male voice that I think I've heard before. I actually really like the soft chorus break in this song, and the guitar riff is really nice as well. I think the way the song progresses in this song is amazing. :) Track 10- Electronic drum sounds start this song, then comes in a female voice. It starts getting really really repetitive after about 2 minutes into the song. Sounds like someone was playing a video game over the recording track of this song. Again, this is definitely not something I would listen to. Track 11- Acoustic guitars start this track. I really like the way the 2 or 3 guitars all layer into one. 2 male voices come in for the chorus, which I really like. This track only gets better when tambourines kick in, and the song builds into something a lot heavier. It's a surprising song, I'll give it that. Track 12- Starts directly with female vocals and synthy sounds, with a harp. I'm not sure why, but I really like this song. It's probably because of the way all the instruments from the vocals to the percussion all blend together into one. It gets extremely powerful near the end, which I like as well. Track 13- Distorted guitars start this song, I really like the backing vocals in this song, and it sounds like quite a rocker. I feel like the drums and percussion could be much more powerful in this song. It's a really nice track, and it didn't even fade out! Track 14- Uh, I'm really not sure what's going on in this song; I think it's just low quality or something. I can't make out what the vocalist is singing. The electronic drums are a bit tooooo loud. It basically covers the vocals. Track 15- Sound like a really nice track, and the drums during the chorus is amazing. I like the bass line as well. The only bad thing about this song is the fact that I can't understand a thing the vocalist is singing, and I really like songs when I can understand them. However, it's still a really nice track. Track 16- Electronic sounds start this song. Then comes in a female voice. I think this song would've been good as a rock song, instead of an electronic-pop one. Track 17- The final song, and it starts out with piano. Male vocals come in. I really hope this song explodes, which it didn't. Too soft, in my opinion for the final track. The songs that I really liked- 2,3,7,9,11,12,13 I had fun doing this review. Thanks for the mix!
